I totally agree with you Alexis. This is so true aswell. We need to evolve and stop hating on things that we can not understand. Humiliate people that stand out in any way, is cowardly.. ++++ Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for this Great song
This song changed and reinforced my perception on this concept of same love. I will always appreciate the depth of the song and message it conveys. Beautiful
I remember the first time I heard this song. I was in the car with my mom (who is a Jehovahs witness) and we were driving home. I remember wanting to listen to it all the way but feeling like I couldn't. Like I was expected not too. This was about two years after I thought I might be gay. I remember being so touched by what little of this song I heard. I wasn't fully sure of the idea that I might be gay. About a year or so later I tried to come out to my mom, literally sobbing. All she did was get angry, blame it on my cousin, and tell me it was a phase. So, like a good normal girl, I got a boyfriend. It lasted for the first two weeks of my freshman year of high school. The summer after 9th grade (going into 10th) I met this boy that I went to the same boxing gym I went too. We became friends and I went to his house. He was my first kiss. When my mom picked me up I started crying, not really sure why until now though. I'm about to turn 18 in the next few months and I'll be leaving home for college. Even though the college I'll be attending isn't that far away, I still feel safer to really come out. I feel like now I can actually have a girlfriend instead of hiding her and telling people she's just a "Friend". I'm performing next month at an open mic thing at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. I'm going to be singing Mary Lamberts "She Keeps Me Warm." And I'm not inviting any family, my friend is going to record my performance and I'll be uploading it to my facebook on my 18th birthday. I just wanted to thank Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for writing this song. It was the first positive thing I had ever heard about being gay in my life. ( At the time.)
+Bryce Mccartney, It does get better. I am gay, been with my husband 35 years(actually married less than a year). We have seen a lot in our lifetime, friends we lost, young friends who took their lives either because of family not accepting them or because of the AIDS epidemic. I had to cut ties with some family but always remember that family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs, the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what! Always remember that as you grow older. The best to you.
You can tell that they really care and feel passionate about their lyrics and that they are really proud of what they have produced, its amazing and they are an inspiration to all
macklemore u have done it again. when u spoke in that song u made me cry. PLZ STOP MAKING ME CRY UR SO AMAZING HOW CAN I NOT CRY!??!? ur so pationate. or however u spell that word. hope u know what I mean. love ya!
O gosh im in tears.. I love this song but just seeing how much he gets into his songs but this just speaks to anyone out there... so beautiful I love Macklemore.
Ce que j aime vraiment avec macklemore, c est que on voit qu il aime chanter et qu il est vraiment content de ce qu il fait je le trouve juste genial, lui et cette chanson ! :)
My best friend hates Macklemore because of this song, and I really don't understand it, and my friend doesn't even listen to any other songs other than Can't Hold Us from Mac, because he supports gay rights. My opinion is people should be able to be happy, even if that means same-sex marriage.(I'm not gay) But I think it's cool that Macklemore expresses his thoughts on this topic. This is a really passionate song that makes me honestly respect Mac alot.
+Jason Crownover You should just stop being friends with someone hating Macklemore cause of this special Song. Its okay if he doesnt like the music Macklemore is doing, but hating him cause of his opinion.. well.. your friend is dumb.

I'm just such a huge fan of both Macklemore and Ryan. They're amazingly talented and kind and I just have so much love and respect for them. It's refreshing to finally find a rapper who isn't afraid to rap about anything, and who raps about real stuff. Truly genius.
The way he moves around not paying attention, keeping the beat, and moving his hands prove how deep he is in his own world. It shows how much he loves his music and how much he cares. You can tell how much he cares about this one subject, he has his own story about it and you can tell he is not lying about how he feels by how he expresses his feelings. All you have to do to understand what he is feeling is listen to the song and think about it. I understand and feel what he does through the song
Mad respect to this man, slowly but surely our world ventures from the chains of discrimination fear and hatred, and into the arms of love peace equality and acceptance. The world is slowly waking from a long slumber of ignorance.
Macklemore is seriously one of the only artists I know that REALLY can get into his songs and puts his all into everything. he's my favorite rapper/singer out there. He's truly inspiring. He's real. He's talented. He's incredible
he's words go throw me in so many way's and the way it gets into his words and belief. it gives me hope that I will make it and try harder and never hide you who are to make others happy.
This song is so true and to be able to listen to it helps me and I am sure others that we are all stereo typed. But we could stop judging and stereo typing others too, love you Macklemore!
So inspirational, this is the kind of music that changes the world for the better and unites us, every ones the same on the inside so don't judge them for being different!! Best song ever written
just look at him......he's just lost in his music, and that's how you know it's coming from the heart not just words to seek attention. my first ever comment to support a singer/rapper. Macklemore!
I too used to have negative feelings towards homosexuals. But as I started to learn more about freedom and liberty it made me realize we are all just striving for our own personal freedom. Word up to macklemore for standing up for his beliefs and telling the world to change. Not many music artist are able to transfer messages this deep through their music. Macklemore is one of my all time favorites.
Watching macklemore just makes me so happy. He loves what he does and you can see that. He's the only rapper that I know of that actually smiles... He sings about things that matters, to just love and breakups. I had so much respect for him :)
I support it for the simple reason that I want ever person allowed the right to enjoy the same joy I have received through the ritual over marriage... we're celebrating our 2nd anniversary on 11/11...we were together for 13 years but to be married makes me feel complete.. love you babe
he is so passionate about what he has to say. thriftshop is about finding something that you can use to stand out. this song has deeper meaning. its about equality for everyone.
I have the utmost respect for Macklemore for writing and releasing this song. He really inspired me to stand up for what's right. In the music industry, especially rap, gays are made fun of and looked down upon. Macklemore deserves so much respect for this. His talent is incredible. This is a huge step for humanity. I may not be the same, but that's not important. No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it.
I saw them live in Norway during the Hove-festival and their consert was by far the best consert of the whole week! They are as good if not better live!
As someone who highly relates to the message, it's truly incredible to have someone make a song about it. Especially a rapper, since we all know what being gay is like in the hip-hop community. You can really see that both Ryan and Ben mean it and feel it, and it's amazing. Thanks, Macklemore.
The line "I might not be the same, but that's not important, no freedom till were equal, damn right I support it." Gives me goosebumps EVERY TIME
+Aidan Wahib me at "some would rather die than be who they are"
me, too
+Le Na me too
same!
Every defender of human rights understands the enormity and importance of this song.
Thank you for being brave, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
It's funny how he's getting into the song, basically giving a big show as if he's on a stage, when they're actually in a radio studio.
Love it!
i have a crap ton of respect for malckmore for singing this i cant listen to this with out crying.
I totally agree with you Alexis. This is so true aswell. We need to evolve and stop hating on things that we can not understand. Humiliate people that stand out in any way, is cowardly..
++++ Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for this Great song
I would humiliate you.
dont worry alexis i'm the same
Alexis Daugherty he used his fame the right way. It allowed him to spread a message of love.
Same
He is rlly good, it legit sounds exactly like the recorded version😍😍😍
That's what I thought!
This song changed and reinforced my perception on this concept of same love. I will always appreciate the depth of the song and message it conveys. Beautiful
It can't change a perception and re-enforce it at the same time, genius, they're mutually exclusive.
NefariousPorpoise It changed his perspective THEN reinforced it.
I'm loving the trumpet players style. Awesome performance from everyone there. :D
I love the fact that you Can see they enjoy performing on stage!👌
nuff love, macklemore....keep doing you and keep pushing that message brother, mad respect for you

It's such a shame that no audience can enjoy this freaking amazing live.
he sounds exactly the same live. I love him. enough said.
I love how they enjoy performing with so much power it actually moves you
Just fell in love with Ryan Lewis. Genius!
Wie Macklemore sich immer so viel bewegen muss, auch wenn er langsamere Lieder singt :)
it's sad people "thumbs downed" this song.. afraid of what they don't understand. breaks my heart.
Maybe they just thought it was a shit song?
Em Eff thats funny right there
I love how he acts when he sings !! It is crazy how much he loves what he do. Love you Macklemore and Ryan
Why isn't Macklmore president yet???
Probably doesn't like politics.
Bon Sly OMG JARED
HAHAHA! LOL! Bon Sly
because he's a musician and probably knows nothing about running a country
MattKMusic nobody knows how to run a country until they've done it haha really though why would you want to run the country
macklemore u have done it again. when u spoke in that song u made me cry. PLZ STOP MAKING ME CRY UR SO AMAZING HOW CAN I NOT CRY!??!? ur so pationate. or however u spell that word. hope u know what I mean. love ya!
*2:10** "Have you read the UA-cam comments lately?"*
I am now.
"No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it." Says it all. This guy is amazing.
I'm a metalhead. This made me shiver
Even though this song may be old it's still popular, inspirational and lovely
Why is there no cred for this trumpet player? I want to know who he is.
His name is Wiz Khalifa
O gosh im in tears.. I love this song but just seeing how much he gets into his songs but this just speaks to anyone out there... so beautiful I love Macklemore.
