Riding a public track with my electric dirt bike is hilarious!

- Today I brought out my 2019 Alta EXR to Tomahawk Mx to see how it would do against the public! It was also the bike's first test on an actual motocross track with wide open straights, soft dirt, and bumps/ruts! I was very pleased with how it felt, although the battery didn't last very long and it overheated.

I feel like one day electric bikes would be the go-to for racing but even when that day comes I'm still going to choose an engine bike I love the sound and the feel to me it's like I'm free when I'm riding a bike
Hahah 125 is dumping on your "elite" bike
You sound like a Traxxas RC im dead
Don't like this guy. "My bike makes me so much faster than other people with skills" eventually ev bikes will be seperated. Beeping people to pass 😆
Do you have a video from the side lines?
If you passed me and gave me that “beep beep” as you went by I would literally have to pull off the track and collect myself because I would be laughing so hard 😂
Couldn’t relate more 🤣
A guy at our local hare scrambles does it all the time and it tickles me to death everytime i hear him do that
Same 🤣
Love the guy at 6:16 that look over is like WTF LOL
Idk i malmost think it would encourage me to stay in front
I just love that you took the time to wipe off the gopro for us in mid air 🤣
Heck yeah I wa like really while mid jump just wipe the lense so they can c the landing haha
Literally read the comment when he just did it 😂
Noticed that too, which is why I'm here 🤣🤣
Wtf me too
How could he even notice that it was dirty?
I’m actually impressed with that 125 kid keeping you at bay and not being punked at his local track, with a 2 stroke!!! His parents raised him right....long live the 2 smoke!
on the pipe the entire time! as it should be :)
and instead of getting some annoying effn beep beep he just roosted the guy in the face...love it! Am impressed by these elec bikes though that get up in go is pretty damn slick I want/need to try one :)
calm down old man lol
Thanks for this comment. Had to rewatch. This video reminds me of chasing thumpers when they first came out on my 125. They would always come over asking what work I had done. Still classified info till this day

Imagine if you will....
You wake up on a Saturday morning, excited to get to the track. You triple check your stuff, and roll out for a good day of riding... You pull out onto the track and feel amazing. Everything is just right and where it should be. Ya really feel good and you are putting it down. "Wow" you say to yourself, "I'm getting faster. This feels great". As you are approaching the next turn, you hear it. A sound you have never heard on a track before. The sound you have only heard coming from your neighbors kids tricycle horn. Before you know what happens you see AJ come screaming past you with another little "beep beep". You hang up the boots after that day. The "beep beep" haunts you. You have flash backs when your neighbors kid honks the horn on their tricycle. You are never the same again.
Wow that's mad, 1st time watching an electric dirt bike, I do love the sound the 2/4 strokes make but damn never thought I'd really enjoy actually being able to hear crystal clear the rider talking and just taking in the speed of it all whilst sounding like a little rc car 😂👍
The bike sounding like an rc car is the best part🤣 bringing back childhood memories with that noise lol
I ride a regular e-bike and it's pretty much silent, my e-motorcycle is more of a soft hum, these are probably some of the larger motors available.
It actually helps you ride. I love 4 stroke sound myself, but on the alta you can hear the tyres and suspension. More power than any ice is also nice :)
Speed > sound
In the U.K. we’ve lost so many riding areas due to the anti noise brigade. These things would allow us to ride in so many more places.

Watching manned RC dirt bikes on a Supercross track would be miserable if not painful to watch. The AMA would have to allow you pro's to get into fist fights in the Mains to make Supercross interesting.
Looks fun! Imagine how these sort of bikes could pave the way for much more tracks in relatively densely populated areas where a track for regular motocross bikes would never be allowed.
Good point! How about indoor tracks in cold environments too!

I would expect the local heroes are a bit irritated by a guy on an electric bike beep-beeping at them before overtaking. And I bet they are extra irritated by the guy wiping his camera lense on every other jump 🤣. Awesome video, I would have loved to see a couple reactions by the other riders afterwards!
To be fair, he’s beeping because the other riders wouldn’t hear him approaching otherwise
Is beeping at people a thing on dirt tracks? Would get kicked off my local (non-dirt) track for that. Just pass if you are faster, don't need to scare someone and possibly cause a crash.

@American Dream this is a super new technology with massive room for rapid improvement (unlike, say, combustion engines), and your takeaway from watching a guy who has only been riding two years smoking everyone but one dude who’s tail he stayed on till the bike quit is that ice will always beat e-tech? You’re delusional
I swear I couldn’t finish a race on one of these, simply because I’d waste my battery with the HORN!!! That thing is hilarious!! My stupid ass would be trying to hook up a bigger horn!!!

I was thinking that horn also, or maybe a train 😆

Im not against these new “Ebikes” at all. Im actually proud of how far technology has come. But that 2 stroke… You just cannot beat that sound and the way the dirt flies off of that tire.
And the smell there's nothing like that 2 stroke smell
Since gas is no longer the fastest thing I think we should bring back two strokes
@@greengoat5654 theres rumors of honda possibly going back in to two stroke production

Squirting dirt....
I’d love to be at a race with a field consisting of just these bikes, it’d be the weirdest thing ever
My 10 year old grandson raced in an electric only event sponsored by a major manufacturer at the Phoenix State Farm arena last winter and took 2nd place, but then was awarded 1st when the first place rider was disqualified. A year earlier, at the same venue, he raced the only electric bike against 50cc 2s gas bikes and beat them all easily. Sorry if I have to brag!! :) The arena was very quiet especially after getting used to the Pro class 4 strokes!! Kinda of eerie, in fact.
I've been to a few, it's such a better experience. Feels peaceful and the air is fresh. Don't have to worry about yelling at other people to talk, riders can talk to eachother on the track while going full throttle, you don't have to worry about animals getting scared so you can easily bring them to events without having to worry about ruining their hearing, and of course no more exhaust fumes and smell (i know some people like it, but that shit is toxic, lol)(not to mention exhaust fumes can cover a track and be harder for riders to see).
It's like watching the KTM kids at the SX
I absolutely love how the 2stroke stayed in front! Hahaha great video.
I love the horn, also I would rather hear 2 strokes but there is something very awesome about the brushless motor ripping past 4 strokes.
That thing is freaking awesome. Dude, I can't believe how fun it looks. Thanks for letting us tag along!

I like how the only time he wipes off the camera is when he’s mid air😂
I just raced my local Arenacross event for the first time.. there was about 10 kids on the new husky/Ktm Electric 50s to me that seems like the way to go for kids…. the bikes were competitive with the cobras and other 2 stroke bikes.. you also don’t have to worry about clutches and other issues with those bikes…
Hi, my 10 year old grandson raced the KTM earlier this year in an electric only class at State Farm arena. He took 2nd, but then the 1st place rider was disqualified, so he got first. Last year, at the same venue he raced the only KTM e-bike against Cobras, etc and beat them all. I think it was a demo race. KTM was really awesome how they worked with the kids.
That horn is the most formidable weapon in the dirt! Psych Ops at its finest 😂😂😂
I used to race 500s in the 80s and absolutely loved it. I started riding a KTM electric and love it as well. The best part is the little track that is used is 200m from housing. The demand for housing will always win over dirtbikes.
The power on the electrics is different, sort of odd, but very cool. As for this video, hysterical! That horn is fantastic!
That thing is really cool. I thought it was pretty awesome but the main downside's really for me are the 20 minute ride time and that it's not really that fast compared to like a 250 2 stroke but it does look like a blast for arena racing and urban cruising but the battery tech isn't there yet for real rural use
With two bad shoulders and a desk job, 20 minutes is probably going to be plenty if I can put it on a fast charger as I rest up lol. Definitely not ready for pro motos though
@@MattBuck777 it looks like a great machine, and getting Josh Hill out to test was a great move. I don’t know what the euro market is like, but that Steve Jobs presentation style is going to get rebuffed pretty hard in the US supercross/motocross culture. And pointing out that you can reopen tracks with a silent bike is great, but emphasizing how quiet it is throughout the video shows a pretty big misunderstanding of the US market too. It’s pretty much a marketing game to sell the “race gas smells good” crowd on electric bikes at this point.
@@MattBuck777 ya, range anxiety is going to be pretty real for mx… electric cars can be weighed down with batteries, but these just can’t. I think it’ll be great when paired with an electric truck and a beer belly though. Pop it on the charger while I rest (frequently). I doubt vehicle-to-vehicle fast charging will be around for Gen 1 trucks, but it’s gotta be available in the future. Then you literally just load the bike in the truck at home where both are freshly charged, never have to stop for gas on your way to the track, pull a few miles off your truck’s range at the track, maybe cook some lunch on an electric grill run off your truck power, head home.
Have a trailer rig with multiple bikes? Buy a trailer with a big battery built in. You can leave it on a charger the whole time it’s home. It won’t reek of gas, so you might even be able to vacuum it out and use it as an alright guest room since it’s fully electrified. The options become pretty interesting once you go full electric
Imagine having hot swappable batteries. Have like 10 of them going on a charger with a battery bank or small generator. Just hot swap fresh ones in when you run low, ride all day. MotoE, formulaE, and tons of other E-motorsports are developing it right now. That shit will hit the market in a year or two, BET.
i love the way they whip their heads around when you hit the horn 😂😂 hilarious
It’s so freaking awesome to hear you talk while you ride in real time! Sick!
Over the past year, I was getting beat regularly in Masters MX 55+B by an Alta. I would say it is less hilarious and more like "WTF....are we all moving over to those things?!" And AJ is right...I never heard him coming

It's not like electric motors didn't exist 50 years ago. The only amazing thing is that the batteries are light enough and have enough capacity to go for 1/3 or less time than a gallon of gasoline will get you.
No this is peak stupid. LI ion batteries have doubled capacity and quadrupled charged time in the past decade since batteries started gaining relevance and thus billions in R&D. No one was putting money in until Tesla shook things up. Give it another 15 years and ice bikes will be a joke

Hell ya. Props to the 2 stroke guy!! This video reminds me of all the nerds driving Tesla’s and saying they are faster than a GT3. Yep, they are usually quicker in a straight line a couple of launches. But it’s a one trick pony. That’s all they do and the car is driving you and not the other way around. Dealing with over heating, limp mode, limited time/mileage, etc? Hell no, I’ll stick to a touring (manual) GT3!!
True. I’d rather have a GT3 over a Tesla but Tesla does have a rather large range. Limp mode happens to ICE cars too. Happened to me at a track day in a BMW. The Tesla will be far less expensive to maintain and operate but will not retain it’s value like a (well kept) GT3. I’m guessing if you can actually afford a GT3, you wouldn’t be concerned about maintenance cost.

@@jar7d Exactly. If they were all riding e-bikes it probably wouldn't be necessary because they would hear it but when they are using ICE's, it's not worth the risk.
I know this was an electric bike video but rolling with that two smoker at the end, there was just something about it! Old and new!
