Got mine at Canadian Tire for 19.99$ plus tax. That was regular listed price, not a sale. So far I'm impressed, in my opinion it's better than the 60$+ Gerber machete( which in one chop on a branch I dented and rolled the edge big time). So far 19.99$ it's a pretty solid deal.
Have it and love it for the price, tested the steel on some thicker branches, accidently hit a brick on the ground with the edge and my heat treatment seems very good - only a tiny mark from the brick!
Its a great mini machete, knives should not be expensive its just a piece of metal. In my opinion this is about perfect in size and shape for versatility and medium wood working. Not too long, good weight, thin to allow for smooth cuts, and the mostly painted stainless blade requires almost know upkeep and comes very sharp. The grip is not sexy but very ergonomic, durable and functional in all weather being solid rubber, and can be used two handed or with a lanyard. The width of the blade means you can hold it and use as a scraper or shovel too. Would recommend as a great all around tool for any ultralight camper going off road back country.
Hell yeah, I paid $10 for mine at tractor supply and it deff is a chopper I have put it thru some thick stuff and it just keeps on working with ease...
Cut down a tree with this. If you hit near the end of the blade it wobbles a bit on hard wood. Hitting near the base does a better job chopping. Sharpened it back up afterwards, would recommend this for slashing more so than chopping. (If that wasn’t already obvious by the style of blade) edit; it I wasn’t clear, I would recommend this blade. Held its edge fine, got the job done, was easy on the wallet.
Got mine at Bamgaar's (formerly Orsheln's) on sale for $13.95. Like the idea that it matches the size and basic profile of Strider/Aragorn's Elven knife in LOTR
Nice review. I bought one about a month ago, used for the first time at our hunting camp and loved it. That is until I noticed the blade after clearing some over hanging laurel branches and some old dead limbs from a fallen trees. About half way up the trail I notice that the blade looked funny, it had serrated edge!!! Apparently the blade was chipping away!! I have contacted Taylor Brand about this, just waiting to hear back from them.
Just bought one at Canadian Tire. $22.59, tax included. Back to the house to check it out, and I'm happy. I'll pick up a longer machete as well, because this one is pretty short, but it'll be great (I hope), for battoning. Need a longer blade for clearing brush, and huntin' bear, but this is a great deal for $20. PERIOD.
looks nice, but I'm still partial to longer machetes. Granted every tool has a purpose, but if i had to choose I'd go with the same blade shape but twice the length. That's just me though.
Nice mini review. I really like the blade shape, I thought it was a Parang. I think Schrade are on the right track making good products that people can actually afford.
+WeAllJuggleKnives I have mine in transit, I bought it exactly because of the reasons you stated: I wanted a parang bout couldn't cough up 50 bucks for a condor
Certainly can't go wrong at just over $15.00. The steel will be poor quality, but I can't help myself when it comes to collecting Schrade knives. They are gradually becoming part of my knife collection.
It really does. In this case its very heavy for its size because its wide, aggressively angled like a saber, thin so it passes well, and for all these reasons anything you smash with it is low impact ( also on your wrist because of the wide rubber grip.) Stainless steel is the perfect material for a knife of this size too, very hard and sharp. You can baton with it too, but keep your hand up on the grip and only hit the grooves behind the flat part of the edge. If you dent it congratulations, you found a gemstone haha.
Actually, it should be "Smock" 1. Mach is when used as a word pronounced "Mock" as in Mach 1 engine etc. I found the edge stinks on this piece when you get it. I spent about an hour on a stone and worksharp, and now it is much better. Great video.
Say Heah Israel, Another $64,000.00 qyestion, Which one that Schrade SMACH or the Ka-Bar ZT Swabbie, Oh by the way I had the Toxic Green handles changed to Black, it doesn't look like a toy any more, And I added it to my BK-7 and BK-17, So, Yeah, it's not only a nice looking set, but a very formidable functioning 3knife carry.
I think it looks like a good zombie killing Christmas present. Dam it's two bad I have 6-8 machete's allready. but $20 for a swabbie like blade good deal. I jot 4 machetes last Christmas only logical I buy 1 this Christmas. Hopefully the zombie apocalypse happens soon!
Don't waste your money on this machete. I was initially in love and bought it, don't get me wrong the blade works however whatever steel they use was WAAAY to brittle. My tip broke just hacking scotch broom wasn't a major break so I figured I could live with it given the price. However as time went on the tip kept breaking again and again further down the blade and eventually when hacking a dense branch a LARGE circular chuck was gone from the blade simply hacking on a branch. The steel they use in this IS NOT up to par for being so thin. I would not recommend this for any serious use, light use only.

Just got mine at Canadian tire for the same price. Is it still a good machete?
This is a light and fast machete that is easy on the wallet, too. It has a classic sweep to the blade much like a parang.
+WeAllJuggleKnives ya know, ive seen this at my local sporting goods store and was curious about it. i guess that also means its in production?
+WeAllJuggleKnives 4th qt promo probably means it's aimed at the Christmas gift market.
I am starting to avoid knives made in totalitarian countries.
I love mine. I’ve had 2 years and cleaned out cleaned out my back yard full of small trees. Kinda fun too. Easy to sharpen.
Have it and love it for the price, tested the steel on some thicker branches, accidently hit a brick on the ground with the edge and my heat treatment seems very good - only a tiny mark from the brick!
Oh yeah I had mine in the yard cleaning up today. It is possible to get those thing VERY sharp.
Just bought this as a nice light camping machete.
Will help great clearing smaller branches off larger ones.
Got this at tractor supply for 12.00 it's been pretty good so far stays razor sharp to

Yeah stainless steel can chip on long blades, depending how hard and dry the vegetation. This thing is alright for soft vegetation.

Long machetes are pretty sweet, currently my longest is a 28 inch blade Imacasa.

+B Adventures They should call it the Scharang.
+WeAllJuggleKnives I have mine in transit, I bought it exactly because of the reasons you stated: I wanted a parang bout couldn't cough up 50 bucks for a condor
after looking at reviews, I think I'll probably hang mine up on the wall for a decoration.. can't be safe to try to use this thing..
Thanks,
Ordering it right now;-)
YOU got me hooked again with Christmas presents,
Peace
+Nein Jawol - Excellent, nothing says Seasons Greetings like a machete!
+WeAllJuggleKnives it just came in, Super!
Thanks israel!

+Teachering They've come a long way!
Sometimes lighter isn't better, but this machete seems to just hack through everything ever that's in its way! :) I dig it, great price, too.

Change the hilt and that would go perfectly with a Sinbad the Sailor costume.
looks like a comfortable handle. can't go wrong at 15-20 dollars!
+Michigan edge thanks for watching!

Have you consider getting one of those tactical tomahawks from CRKT?
+xExit98x I like their cheaper Woods hawks.
I have the swabbie and I put the black scales on it too
+no_good_namez The green scales make baby Jesus cry!
Yeah a little to gimmicky
Hooray for cheap awesomeness!
+Ben Romney True that!

+Tactical aye tac! hos it been?
Got mine at academy 15.99
The CP at the end of SCMach1CP is an abbreviation for CraP which is the name of the Chinese company that heat treats these blades.
A Machete For $15 Dollars Scares The Hell Outta Me!
There are a lot of Imacasa or Tramontina Machetes that aren't very expensive either, but the stainless steel on this is scary.
I think the blade should be bigger with more weight.
Schrade has a new parang out now, the SCHPR1CP, it's thicker and heavier, better for harder stuff
i dig
