I own this and have bought two as gifts. It is easily my favorite work blade and I use it almost every day when clearing brush from my various properties. Its real strength is its ability to chop. I like it better than a hatchet.
Mine has a tiny nick in the same exact spot. Maybe it has something to do with their heat treating process. Overall, a lifelong companion that will never fail you. (I did stick it in the ground to stop a downhill slide into a gorge however) It hit a rock and saved me from getting hurt. Overall, I'm very grateful for K-bar's construction of this blade. It can truly do it all, and it's a very smart and creative take on traditional kukris.
Excellent to hear your longterm use testimonial!
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Thank you! And the nick occured after stabbing the rock XD, so KABAR continues it's legacy with this blade. A few passes with the Lansky blade medic's diamond rod got rid of it.
Your review was so good, decided to buy one before the video was even over. 👍
Awesome, you will enjoy it.
This is a new, concise review of the KA-BAR Kukri Machete. The outdoor footage is from last year, that's why there is some snow on the ground.
Can you do a review of the new schrade Gurkha Kukri?
WeAllJuggleKnives like that nasty
WeAllJuggleKnives Is this better than the Ontario kukri
@WeAllJuggleKnives Mine has a nick in the same spot, after a year of sharpening (only three times) it has buffed out quite well.
Mine came shaving sharp out of the box. Combined with a good skinner and the bk9 you really dont need any other blades for survival.
Having this kukri would make a bk-9 basically useless. you would have 2 choppers, the kukri being better than the bk-9.
Hey all - bought one of these for my trips into the jungle. needed something that can do the work of a machete and a hatchet. i did a lot of homework on what works best. this thing ticked all the boxes. recommend 100%. hell, even got my pap and brother one for christmas.
Glad to hear it is working for ya!
My machete sucks big time so this is on the list of possibilities for sure! This thing kicks butt!
+SouthPaw Bushcraft It's pretty sweet
Wife just gave me one for Christmas today. Looking forward to using it
She is a keeper!
@@WeAllJuggleKnives She is, and she drives a manual jeep. One day I came home with an LR308 and Springfield Saint and she sent me right back to the gun store..... to buy 4 extra mags each, 1000 rounds of ammo each and a bugout bag. Keeper, indeed.
Thanks for your review. Because of this video i know how tough this knife is. Really appreciate it👍
Heck of a tool for the money!!!
I love KA-BAR (as you know), but this seems a little too bulky for me, personally. I like the look of them and I like seeing other people using them, but maybe just not for me. But they're sure sweet. It's a beast!
Nice and strong machete. It's on my list now :)
Yes.
This is the situation.
With the cheap blades you get in general A LOT more for your money, than with the expensive ones.
I admit.I like expensive blades, but my last 2 knives disappointed me totally because of what exactly I am getting for my money.
So if ,,you" consider of buying an expensive blade online,my advice:
DON'T DO IT !
If you don't have the option to check the blade personally,go with something cheaper like
Ja-Bar,Shrade,Cold Steel,Condor.
And NICE review 👍👍👍
I'm not a big fan of knives of this size but, I must say, this particular blade is impressive. After watching the workout you gave this KA-BAR Kukri, it makes me think of perhaps getting one for my KA-BAR collection. A very good video!
+Teachering You will slowly come around to big blades!
The bigger the better! At least my wife tells me that, not sure what she means...only tells me that after she hangs out with Dan. Maybe I'm just not in the loop, haha...
LOL@@YoushouldloveyourselfNOW1738
I've wanted this one for a while, just ordered it from Amazon. I live close to SMKW in TN, but their prices are usually a bit higher. I did notice that their price on the ESEE Junglas was a bit cheaper than Amazon, so that might be my next splurge. I've toggled back & forth between the Junglas & the Ontario RTAK 2, but it seems like either one is a good knife. Recently ordered a Cold Steel kukri machete (really regretting it now) but the blade is almost paper thin. No way could it stand up to what you just did with the Kabar. Thanks for this review, makes me glad that I got one.
I wish I lived near them! LOL. I noticed they usually include the sheath for free with their Marbles machetes, whereas usually they are sold separately and as pricey as the blade.
Someone Yadontknow On the CS: get the 'Plus' or the 'Royal' as their made from the 2.8mm thick stock with the convexed edge. The other 2 are the 2 mm thick stock and a simple machete grind on the edge.
BTW, check out WAJK's video on the Royal and you'll be convinced it's the one for you 🤘
Cheers
Blazin'Blades
P.s Don't forget to buy through his Amazon link if you do. 😎
For those who seek full tang, good luck if your full tang knife can match this one. Good vid tho, this kukri design blade is best known for hard work. Now those who used it .... know.
The KUKRI DESIGN was ACTUALLY originally made by the PHILLIPPINE islands natives for BEHEADING their ENEMIES in combat with minimum effort and maximum efficiency, who knew how many OTHER THINGS THAT BLADE DESIGN WOULD BE SO AWESOME FOR!!
My bk21 is a beast. I don’t have in my rotation as the tops yacare has replaced it. Rat tail won’t hold up but if you intend on beating this knife, do it but don’t baton it too much
Excellent review brother! You are a inspiration to me to as a hard work and professional. I know you love when people get the blade you are reviewing... Well you did such a nice job by 1000th time that I am getting one.
+PowerMadHeadBanger Awesome, you'll like it!
weird timing, I'm watching the show Lost, it is an older show, you might know it, there are some people whos plane crash on an island, ever heard of it? well anyway someone on that show has this Knife, and I was dying to find out what it was, then this vid popped up! Thanks for the awesome vid!
+Sage Ethan WT Weird!
Sage Ethan WT that show "LOST" !! The guy with the knives was TERRY O'QUINN as John Locke !!!!
Looked like Locke had a SPYDERCO HARPY knife !!
My tests are that dang nature steel......bamboo. I have more than plenty. Gotta check out. 1085 vs. 1055 interested.
if anyone breaks it, and could cut the handle in half, would be nice to see, how the tang looks inside the handle...
All in the $50 range today
Which would you choose:
The Ontario Kukri, Ka bar Kukri Machete, Kabar Cutlass?
And why?
Thanks
BB
Blazin'Blades That's what I'm trying to figure out too.
I have this blade and it’s awesome, I have owned it since 2012 and it’s been a great camp knife. It’s more heavy chopper knife than machete. It’s not a machete in my eyes, I have a Condor and a Marbles machete and this is much thicker and much more of a knife.
wow.... that kukri did a number on the Stump of Truth!
Damn it felt good watching you chop the hell out of that stuff. Thanks for the free therapy.
Any time.
I had 1 for years tell it was stolen and u cant kill that knife cut everything from sage brush to water oak even afue nails when i wasnt paying attention loved it and have a new 1 on its way
Any future hope of reviewing the Ontario kukri??? I see it as a sleeper among buget carbon steel kukris...
KA-BAR makes a great blade and always has but damn they're expensive!
For a lot of Ka-bar items, the price will drop after a while, it's best not to buy some of their stuff when it first comes out, for example that newer kukri they have, that thing is bound to decrease in price.
Maybe. Most KA'BAR's I've ever seen held their value. They are great knives and it's no wonder the Marines have used them for years but I have never seen one for less then $75 or so.
I got one under $50 on Amazon.
Anything Kabar makes is top notch. I have both sizes of their USMC knives (and my daily carry is a Kabar folder), but the larger USMC knife is unwieldy and seemingly pointless for me to carry... But I want at least two kabars in my BOB, and I kinda wanted to add a machete to my kit... But I didn't wanna add the weight.
After this review, I think you've just helped me solve both of those problems. Thank you.
One question, this blade is full tang yah?
Yes indeed, it is a hidden full tang.
It's not a very good machete. I've taken many a briar to the knuckles trying to clear brush with mine. The blade is too short and heavy to get a good cut on tall, light grass.
It's honestly a better hatchet than anything else. But I would MUCH rather have this kukri than a hatchet to defend myself, that's why I like taking it with me in the bush.
I think
Y'all JuggleKnives sounds pretty good too heh heh heh, just a Say Heah and update. I ordered a Battle Horse Attitude, But I'm having a slight curve, blade thin down from 3/16th's" to 5/32nd" and a High Scandi Grind and White Handle with a Blue Liner. Now it will match my White Handle Himalayan Imports M-43 Khukuri, My other has Black Buffalo Horn and it's biggee, but it's easier for me to match knives to it. Infact I took the Big Boy out with my Bokor Magnum Series Vox Collection 2011 and for my finer work, I had my Vintage Myerchin Pocket Knife with the Marlin Spike which is great to untangle paracord. Both knives are in the 440c. This was also a nice matching set and they complimented eachother and worked out great. Boy Bokor does a good job with their 440c. Anyhow Partner, I would like to Wish you a Happy Easter. See Y'all.
+paulie 4x Paulie you have a boss knife collection, man, I hope you live a long long time but I also hope I'm in your will!
I'll think about it, Remember there are the poor.
Oh, and the sick, , ,
idk if i should get condor kukri or ka-bar kukri
Too Bad they don't keep all their knives 1/4 thick?
I love my ka-bar kukri, i would love to see a Vs. demo against the ontario magnum kukri and the condor heavy duty kukri!
+Arctic Gator Me too, I don't have those other two though.
I second that!! Ontario vs Condor!
+Arctic Gator Just an aside: the guy who just won Discovery Channel's 'Alone' show was using a condor heavy kukri.
Beast! Looks like it would hack off a body limb pretty well too!
+Evil Droid It would! I mean ... how ghastly. LOL.
First like Israel!! I've been strongly mind willing you to do a review vid on this blade
+Julian Thueringer Thanks!
Cool review, does that work on grasses and brush ?
Thank you. Yes, it does, Ka-bar used to have one specifically for grass in this line, but they don't make that one anymore, it was a bit lighter to swing.
When the blade gets dirty, how can you clean all the smears and dirt off the blade?
is the gerber kukri more durable than the kabar? i was wondering because i live pretty far out in the wilderness and need a good solid tool so i dont have to run to town to buy another.
+_ THWWFR _ The Ka-bar is definitely more durable than the Gerber.
WeAllJuggleKnives ok thank you i was very sceptical at first
I know it’s an old video, but i assume this is a decent blade if it’s from the Ka bar company, but I don’t know if it’s made in the US or not.
It is made in Taiwan. It is definitely a great blade, but think of it as a machete (they do not harden it as much as a Ka-bar knife).
What do you think of their combat kukri? I have one and I love it.
So, any thoughts about reviewing chinese Real Steel folders? Really high quality for its price, I would recommend the h6 blue sheep folder
what type of camera do you use ?
Sony Handycam
Great video. I bought one a week ago and love it so far. I'm wondering what you recommend for sharpening larger blades like these? I have a tri-hone or whatever it's called sharpener that's perfect for smaller knives or kitchen knives, but want something to sharpen my larger blades like this one. Do you have any recommendations of a larger (non-field carry) type stone or similar? Thanks for any replies!
Oh and like you said, I too noticed the alignment with straight wrist for both striking and especially thrusting should one need it for self defense. I've got 5 black belts in various martial arts, mostly Kung Fu and a good amount in Thai Boxing but I trained wig burner ours weapons since I was 8 years old. I really loved the alignment for thrusting with this blade. It's really dead on. Not that it's my normal defense weapon in any way, because if in that situation, thrusting is always almost always more effective and this has it. I was also surprised at how well this held its edge and didn't chip or dull after some heavy testing too. Thanks for the review!
+Peter E. Wig burner was supposed to be "with various". Oops.
I use a Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener, it's like a mini grinder, it's very handy for machetes and hatchets.
+WeAllJuggleKnives thanks for the reply!
+WeAllJuggleKnives wow that looks great. Just what I was looking for. I didn't know they had that. I was looking into an old full size grinder but didn't want to take that space up. This is pretty cool. On my Amazon to buy list now. Thanks again.
What do you consider a heavy machete?
+survivethat2012 Generally ones that are a quarter inch thick or more at the spine. I have one kukri that is half an inch thick at the spine, maybe that'd be extra heavy I know they call it a knife but still.
Say Heah, You know Ka-Bar came out with a Reinhart Becker Ka-Bar Kukuri, The BK-21, So far the reviews are great. It's high on my wanna, wanna list. I just pulled the trigger on a Battle Horse Attitude. It's a 5 3/8ths" Blade which I like for my Bush Craft/Survival Knife, I also had it thinned down to 5/32nd" thick and I'm having it made with a High Scandi Grind, I never had a White handle knife, except for my Himalayan Imports M-43 Khukuri, Now I'm having a White Bone Handle put on my new Attitude so now I'll also have a very nice set for the bush which is also my hobby. All I need is to add my Wicked Tough Saw and blip, blap, blam, and away you we gooooo into the wild green yonder of bush craft.
+paulie 4x I, too, lust after that new Ka-bar kukri!
US ARMY. I GOT ONE. I LOVE IT. HOOAH
Does it have a full handled tang?
nice neck knife
Has anyone got the ParaCord pro from Kukri house?
Yup me too, Imagine a Kukuri/BK-9 WoW, I could pair it with my BK-2 finally and my BK-16, or my BK-5 and the BK-15, although after I put a convex grind on my Work Sharp the BK-4 Machaxe is a decent chopper now too.
so with the back edag and a better staber am I crazy in thinking big fighting knife could be a good fit for this
It would make a brutal chopper in close quarters
WeAllJuggleKnives yeah I just can't help but think since tomahawk training is one of the weapons training we do it could use the stracks from the tomahawk pulse a thuster to
Did you roll/chip or dull this 1095 from this short test?
Did the black paint come off? Wonder why no DLC
+BOOSTEDLASER It won't roll or chip unless you hit a nail, which I've done with my Ka-Bar Cutass Machete. I don't think they harden these as much as some of their other blades, because they're like machetes. But, it's still a good blade for the price.
I got 3 Kukris, gonna test in a day or 2. Bk21,Fox pathfinder NITRO-B..and an Ebay custom D2
could you do a video on KA-BAR kukri machete VS Khukuri from Nepal?
i have been pressing like for nearly 2 months on so many vidos... is this voultary or is there a youtube tech problem?
+sten beetlex Darma The Likes are recorded but not displayed, I can see them though. This vid currently has 89 Likes and 3 Dislikes. So, I appreciate each and every time you clicked!
Where are you that has this much snow already??
It says in the description that the testing was shot last year.
OK Israel, $64,00.00 qyestion, O.K.C. Gen2 SP-53 or this Ka-Bar Kukuri Machete. Oh by the way I got a Cold Steel Kukuri Plus in O-1 and that's not bad either. But as far as a Beast Khukuri my H.I. M-43 is a geat chopper but heavy to carry on person all day long, so I had a smaller one made, it's 10" X 7m/m.
+paulie 4x Go with SP-53 first.
Thanx Israel, I hoped you would say that. Have a Safe, Happy Labor Day.
Could you use it like a hatchet?
Yes indeed, it can hit as hard as a small hatchet.
Didn't you already review this before?
+Ryan Ho A long time ago I did, but I felt I could do better.
Machete has enough weight to break a bone too...Think its about 1.7 lbs? i have one on my edc heh
+RanndomUndead it does!
Save me some time. What is the best Kukri 100-150$?
Wonder why NO 3v kukri exist
+BOOSTEDLASER That is hard to say, since most kukris that aren't from Nepal are more like a machete with a kukri shape. Most people will be happy with the Cold Steel here (though slightly above the price range): www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YBWOZS?keywords=cold%20steel%20kukri&qid=1456567704&ref_=sr_1_4&sr=8-4
I am a steel snob with my knives. oddly, I dont know of O1. is it a common steel with another name...like 10 95?
Hm..
would this be worth 36 bucks new ?
+Austin Westenberg Yes it is.
Is it full tang?
US ARMY. YES
Kukri no khukuri
oprah?
+Ty Langford winfrey
Lol u rock...
i was just going to say what happened to the stump of truth ? nevermind. lol. thanks 4 sharing.
+MrMrjones333 it is alive and well
A Sickle isn't that a frozen sick guy heh heh heh
looks really bad, if you need a log to split logs.
+Fa Vang Not trying to split the log, just making sure the kukri can take a hit.
ah ok. np
I wasn't trying to be rude, I do have Children also, But the Church also will get something and for the Less Forunate, The Poor and the Sick (Research etc) no offence and Thanx for the long life jester. Geez what are you going to do with all them flashlights. The needy need our help huh ? lemme know what you have Ok, Maybe I can buy some at a good price, Did you ever hear of ShadowHawk ? I would love one of theirs
+paulie 4x You crazy bugger LOL, who you voting for for president?
Me, Vote for Me. Hip Hip Hurray for Me heh heh heh
+WeAllJuggleKnives So we're still friends right
If you ever decide to give this kukri away.... let a fellow knive lover know.
That's not real khukuri...
Well that is true, it is a machete, only the shape is the similar.
Say Heah Is, That BK-21 Becker Reinhart Ka-BarI like just so I could chop a fallen tree across a river so I could chop it so I could continue down river, heh heh heh.,,.
