  • An interview of Rob Hopkins, co-founder of Transition Town Totnes and Transition Network, recorded during the International Conference "An innovative society for the XXI century" held at Paris on July 12 & 13.
Rob explains in that interview the concept of "transition" and more especially the issues of a "social transition".
For him, the real challenge is about social justice and how to make sure that much of the renewable energy is in communities ownership. He gives the example of a project held in London, the "Brixton Project", that offer to people the opportunity to invest money in a community owned energy company. The fact is that people invest in that projetc not only because the do have better return than to leave their money at the Bank, but also because they are able to see the result of that investment in their community (and to see the positive impact of that investment on the place where they live).
As social transition already exists, the issue for Rob is to extand and broaden these initiative in new places and also to deepen the places where it's already happening.
Rob concludes saying that transition is something where people can pick up an invitation to be creative: "Transition is driven by the passion of the people doing it".
