Nikki, Teaching Assistant at the Deaf Academy

We’re absolutely delighted to announce, Nikki James has been shortlisted for the Teaching Assistant of the Year Award #TesSchoolAwards2022
Nikki first joined the Deaf Academy as a teaching assistant in 1996, having been taught here from the age of 13.
She’s dedicated her entire career to the community that raised her. She is such a strong Deaf role model for our students. The way she supports students, and their families is totally life changing, and comes directly from her own experiences.
From the BSL library she’s created to make books more accessible to Deaf children, to the weekly sign language classes she runs for families, to enable them to communicate with their children, and everything in between. We’re so grateful for Nikki and all that she does to enhance the lives of Deaf young people.
