I love your videos and how you break them down and go slow for literal beginners.. I'm a drummer of 40 years and my daughter and myself recently inherited my dad's 12 string emmons pedal steel (which he always tuned in E9th).. He passed away 24 years ago and we just got it in our posession a few months back.. Never touched even a 6 string, and by watching your videos and taking notes in a notebook to be able to interpret things (I cannot read music and have no theory) I was actually able to learn a few runs and intros (along with learning some of the fret board and how to incorporate the a, b, and c pedals).. A question I have is, what kind of tuner should I be investing in to keep it tuned (easily and user friendly for a newbie).. Thank you kindly in advance, and hope to hear from you.! I have a goal of 6 months to be able to play atleast one song with my family's other musicians..

Geoffrey, thanks so much for your kind word. Glad you got your dads guitar and hope you have lots of good memories while you play it. I got my dads pedal steel and a few of his old lap steels when he passed. I love looking at them and thanking of my dad. As far as tuners I have a Boss TU-12H. It works well and I have seen used ones for sale pretty reasonably priced. The tuning is tempered so every thing is not 440. You can probable Google Jeff Newman E9 tuning and get the tempered settings if you need to.
      Keep Picking!

Really sweet sounding stuff. Boy Johnny Bush is about as classic country and Texas as you can get, along with Amber Digby, Justin Trevino and Jake Hooker. I know Jim Lossberg plays a lot for those guys but I didn't know Buddy Emmons did that song.

@@SteelPicking Jimmy Day and Dickey Overbey played on those late 60s recordings with Johnny Bush to. Johnny Loved Steel guitar. I try to listen to as much recordings of Pedal steel from the 60s and what they peddlers did behind The singers. Thank you so much for this channel. I Think the biggest « Mysteri Record of pedal steel» is Conway Twitty Togheter Forever with Pete Drake on steel. Can you make a video about that song? How in the world did they get that sound ?
