I bought this in 1993, in large part to hear the theme songs on the brand-new CD technology. Boy, was I disappointed when the sound was almost identical to the Sega Genesis technology.
I know what you mean. I didn't know the game actually existed 'till 2007. I read about it on wikipedia. I finally played the game in late 2010, and, like you, I was also disappointed.
@@sithsoldier98 Tell that to Streets of Rage, Gauntlet IV, Sonic 2, Devilish, Dune 2 etc. You could do a lot with FM synth. But most western developers were lazy and just used the default sample instruments in the GEMS tutorial. Also, Capcom thought it would be a good idea to split the sample channel in half for their Street Fighter 2 ports... Kind of ironic that the only thing US Gold's Strider II did right was the clear vocal tracks...
It sounds exactly the same as it would've in the SNES version of Royal Rumble. I never actually owned the disc, nor a sega CD, but we did rent one once before. I don't remembre if we rented rage in the cage or not.
I've always wondered how the music department managed to make the themes sound so close to the original and how they were able to sample a lot of voice/sound effects used in the themes as well
I'd love for this to come back as a screensaver type thing in the modern games. Switching from wrestler to wrestler, showing their bios and playing their theme. Better than still images, a gameplay demo, or random licenced music.
I didn't think about this at the time, but this being sega cd, shame they didn't have cd quality entrance themes...this sounds like it's just using the genesis sound capability, which was not great.
@@aaronreed5612 Also, as some who had the sega cd and 32x, I remeber looking at the box for rage in the cage months before getting the sega cd, and drooling over the amount of wrestlers, the FMVs, the cage...getting the game and quickly realizing this game was actually worse than Royal Rumble for the genesis. FMV was so revolutionary in the early 90s it blinded us kids until we actually played the game.

Sega sounds was just terrible compared to SNES but Sonic and Bare Knuckle are the only ones that sounds decent

Matt Furniss was one of the few Western Genesis sound track designers who really went the extra mile.
@@aaronreed5612all we got was full motion video and cd audio recorded intros. Other than that. Same freaking game lol
Rick Martel > That whole entire roster!
Arrogance: it's not just a fragrance; it's a way of life!
Come for the Rick Martel theme, stay for the “sub-VHS through an RF switch” video clips.

Was it one of the Nasty Boys?
Crush really did have an epic tune lol

On 25:45 the true fact is that’s Rikishi when he was younger
11:35 what we came to hear.
Poor Crush is one of those dudes that had a theme cooler than he was 😆
Crush was only cool as part of Kronik in WCW.
He was very cool in his Kona Crush heel run with Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji.
Demolition Crush ??@@JacensWelt
@@berniemackattack86yeah, he was part of Demolition too
I wonder if they had one event in 1993 for those FMVs where it's just 20 squash matches, back to back
I would collect these just as a fan
Nasty boys theme sound like you can break dance to it
Good old days of Sega CD
This actually SNES themes
12:45 nasty slam
Which one was doing that? I'll have to go back and watch it again.
It was Brian Knobbs.
Dangit these games bring me back
this should've been the best game out of all of them but yikes, basically two match modes.
This is what gave me the impression that CD based games were nothing more than an expensive novelty at the time
tatanka's theme was a banger.

Shawn Michaels' "Special Move" is a Back Suplex? That can't be right... what happened to Sweet Chin Music?
Don't forget that this game was released in 1993. He wasn't using the sweet chin music yet.
@@aaronreed5612 he didn't start using the superkick until Pat Patterson told him it's better than a back suplex
That's his Tear Drop Suplex
@Marc Carran No he doesn’t.
Aka, reverse suplex
Kamala theme sound like drum line lol

Came here only because i found out Rick Martel was in this game and had to hear his them music... Shout out to that rip off val venis 😅😅

I know, right? It just used the same music from the Super Nintendo game. It was like copy and paste. Even the sound effects were the exact same thing.
