- Trevor John Francis, born 19 April 1954 in Plymouth (England). 89 games and 18 goals in Serie A, playing as striker with Sampdoria and Atalanta from 1982 to 1987. In 1985 he won Coppa Italia with Sampdoria, being topscorer of the tournament with 9 goals. He was England's first £1 million player.
I know this might sound strange to some but Trevor was underrated in the UK. When I told my wife that I thought Trevor was better than David Beckham, she laughed.
martynh He was way better than Beckham. Although the comparison is a bit odd because Francis played mainly as a forward while Beckham was a traditional winger (last of a dying breed). /I know that Francis did play on the right wing for Forest./ Anyway, Francis was more versatile and a lot more entertaining to watch. Beckham didn't score the winner in a European Cup final either. He is underrated for sure. I think the pretty boy image and global fame affected your wife. In terms of football Trevor Francis was a different class.
@@dimmykarras9287 better than Beckham seriously?
@@edmondsimon9220 Hi Simon I don't think he's better than Beckham but my wife does. It's all down to Beckham's celebrity status. I think, as an old Birmingham fan, if Trevor was playing today he could get in any team in the world, all day long. Plus, with ref protection etc he would indeed make merry. It's no coincidence that Cappello calls him the greatest English player to play in Italy.
I recall TF scoring a perfect HatTrick at the age of 35 in the top flight vs Villa...what did Beckham do at 35 learn to read? KRO
Shirley B*ckham is the most over-rated, one trick pony to ever kick a ball. He's not fit to lace Trevor Francis' boots.
R.I.P. Trevor 🙏 Grande Striker
I was just a kid but I remember him playing in Sampdoria.
Was a fantastic player. Was the kind of player that nowadays you would call it Top Player. The only problem with him was he was frequently injured. He missed half of the season's games, every season he played in Italy
Grande Trevor Francis🏴bomber ⚽️💙blucerchiato
It’s basic economy, there were primitive sponsorship opportunities. If there was a shirt selling in SportsDirect shops in 1980s of exact shirt with Francis name above his number on back (they didn’t have names on their shirts in 1980s) they would have made a lot of lira, and pounds in a Nottingham shop.
Excellent video 👍
KRO TF RIP Blues legend.
The best ❤
He was a brilliant player one of the best ive seen remember he played in the NFL in the States as well during close season while in his prime was very highly rated in Italy during his time there in a tough league which was probably the best at the time then came back & was effective for QPR & Sheffield Wednesday in twi lite of his career didn't retire until he was 40 not many players have a career lasting nearly 25 years & are as regarded as highly by every team he played for what an achievement...
Two footed and a pretty decent header of the ball as well
It was amazing & he couldn't guarantee a place in the England Team!
