    Oh wow, manual frame control over video textures!! I really hope this finds its way into Shader Editor and Compositor as well. Getting creative with video playback by keyframe(or driver)-wrestling Offset always felt so outdated and limiting without an option like this.
    How different nodes can be used to leverage it would be an interesting video! For someone who’s pretty lost regarding math and data structure, what can/can’t be plugged into the Frame slot is a bit confusing. But simple math goes a long way, just the ability to easily ping-pong parts of sequences is very useful!

    Hi Cris, as always a clear and brilliant video than we can follow point by point and learning some new tips every time ! In Blender 4.0 there is now a geonode "UV unwrap" that works perfectly without the help of an external vector ;)

    Wow! I crossed my fingers and it worked 😄... Once again, another great video. The Geometry Nodes are so much more efficient/optimized compared with the Animation Nodes, I was shocked. Also, for me I think that using Geometry Nodes is easier to learn and understand.
    I've learned so much by following your tutorials. Thank you Chris!

    This is very cool. You have great knowledge and understanding of geometry nodes.Thanks for sharing.

    The black bar is because your image texture is set to repeat, and its picking up the bottom edge at the top. Just change it from repeat to clip and it will fix that. Then you don't even need to mess with UVs at all.

      I know, but most times you WANT UVs and I did all of that to show that it is possible :)

    If anyone is having problems with the image aspect ratio scaling properly in 4.0: I connected UV Map output from Grid node to Vector input on Image Texture node (instead of Add to position), and it fixed the scaling & alignment!

  • @leopoldolugones7302
    @leopoldolugones7302 2 роки тому +4

    Nice! The transfer node is fundamental because the uv map belongs to another geometry, it's not because of the 2d vs 3d vector thing.

    Hi, Chris!) Huuuuuuge thanks for this tutorial! ;)
    Actually I'm stuck on a part 2 with my Blender 4.1.1.
    And for those who happily found the UV Unwrap feature I have to say that it doesn't work properly with native colors! ((((
    And since the 4th blender didn't have a "Transfer Attribute" node, we have to use "Nearest Surface Sample" instead!

    Geometry Nodes are slowly approaching the power of Cloners & Effectors from C4D - now let's hope the eventually get as intuitively easy to use too!

    I think you can use points now instead of instancing geometry... They have infinite resolution and use less memory..
    This tutorial looks awesome nonetheless..

    Love your tuts mate. It would be awsome to see a video about geo-nodes in general.. geo nodes for dummies or smth like that haha. I cant get this stuff into my head. its seems soo complicated but maybe im just dumb lol

    Great tutorial, love your stuff!! So what if instead of differing the size of the icosphere you wanted to place them further or closer away from the camera. So you can fly your camera through what initially looks like some kind of starfield ending up with the picture or video video at the end ?

    Great efforts indeed. Now, what if you wanted to 3D print a static image for the real world...
    For me, after I have made the necessary changes to produce a printable object, when I tried to apply this geometry node, everything disappeared.

    Trying to follow the steps but blender 3.4 no longer has the Transfer Attribute node. The manual says to use the "sample nearest surface" node but I can't get it to work. How can this be solved now?

    • @JeffCharette-jt4ve
      @JeffCharette-jt4ve Рік тому +3

      Hi, I am using 3.4 and "Sample nearest surface" node does work. It goes between the group input and the image texture nodes. Dropdown select Vector. Connect Group Input/Geometry to Sample nearest surface/Mesh and then Group Input/vector to Sample nearest surface/Value.

    hey! chris awesome project! i am new to blenders and this might be the most nonsense question but do you think we can export each of the spheres separately or do you think there is any workaround to do that?

    Hej Chris. I just saw a video of electrostatic halftoning. Where the distance of the particles is adjusted not the size. Like analoge film i guess. Would that be possible with the new simulation nodes?

    i am a little confused now , can geometry nodes do everything that Animation nodes can do ?
    the question is can i rely only on GN and leave AN or each one has it's own functionalities ?

    • @chrisprenn
      @chrisprenn  2 роки тому +1

      They are still very different tools but GN is getting more and more functionality and as shown in this video (recreating an effect from a previous video using AN back then) we can do things now in Blender out of thr box that were only possible with specialized plugins before

      also i want to ask you , is AN broken now ?
      does it work with 3.1.2 ?
      because i could not do most of your tutorials in my 3.1.2
      my version is ExtraNodes 2.3
