- Hodges' classic 1933 recording was used by Spike Milligan as the basis for this sketch from his 1977 'Q7' series. Milligan mimes the raspberries, while John Bluthal remembers some of the words. I've dubbed the original track onto this video, so you can hear it's full majesty without the studio audience's laughter.

Found this a few days ago and must have watched it a dozen times already. What a perfect little gem. The pink feather duster 'bow', the flying toupee, the 'Valkyrie's' facial expressions as she listens and waits her cue: sidesplitting. Thanks for posting this.

I first saw this gem on Q7 and I nearly fell off the sofa! Typical Spike humour. The coy smile from Spike in his Valkyrie outfit - wonderful! Only he could have dreamed up something this funny! A perfect lampoon of the 30s!
Just reminds me of Dad shaking with laughter . He loved the Q series and the Running Jumping and Standing Still Show.He bought me all the books and I still treasure them. I always think they'll be having a good laugh up there.

Whenever I feel a need for a smile, this brings it about. Wonderful clip (and better to listen to without the laughter).
John is actually Polish, an old Jewish family, and emigrated to Australia at nine years old. He worked with Spike for many years on TV, and is well known for "Frank" from the Vicar of Dibley Comedy.
I remember him from Australia's Castrol GTX commercials.

I miss watching Spikey so much. Grew up watching his shows with family. This is what you call comedy and talent. The comedians nowadays have no talent ( apart from a few) because they’re only good at swearing, making sexual comments & full of vulgarity. Surprising how so many people in the audience actually love the idiots. SM legacy lives 😇
