    I have 7 budgies, I ALWAYS make sure I have 1 extra food bowl to the number of budgies. They don’t fight over water so they share 1 double sided bowl. I put 3/4 Millet sprigs in between 7 budgies, but I make sure that the long sprigs can be reached from multiple levels. They still have minor disagreements on occasion, sometimes over who gets to preen who 🙄 😂 and if anything gets too loud I do shoo them off, but because I take a lot of measures there is never serious fights. All of them are very well bonded too, they are very much flock, although some are closer than others, I have 2 in particular that are best friends and will play and preen each other all day. It’s amazing to watch them interact with their own kind

      Okxy Yeluz It’s slow process and it’s very hard to get a budgies trust knowing that they’re smart. I say start little by little and make sure you don’t lose their trust because it’ll probably be awhile till’ you’ll have it back.

    my female budgie bambi will sometimes chase Thumper my male around the cage and if he lands somewhere, she will fly to where he is and bite him. but there are times when they will be talking to each other and they will feed and groom each other. do they like each other or not.
    they live in a cage thats 6ft tall, 3ft wide and 2ft deep.

    I really don't know if my budgies are fighting or not. I have 2 male. The cage is very big but they're always together and kiss each other? I know they're not kissing but I forgot the word lmao. Basically they get along very well. but once in a while they kinda push each other with their heads? Not hard tho. Does that mean they play with each other or do they fight?
    They sometimes do fight when I have food in my hand because they don't wanna share but it's not that serious.

    My parakeets have been fighting to the point where on of them was bleeding and had to be separated and medically cared for. The cage is huge and has the capacity to own several birds. But it was just these four birds in there. One of the birds began to pick on the little bird to the point that I separated it. I put it back in the cage after a while, but the same thing happened. I don’t know what to do!

    • @ParrotPerch
      @ParrotPerch  10 років тому

      Good question! Per my Barron's PARAKEETS book (I have never been asked that so had to research it), males may go together better than females in multi-bird situations. I do know male and female pairs can bond and possibly treat another budgie as the "third wheel", so that is a consideration if you're getting three. All in all, though, budgies do have distinct personalities, so there is never a guarantee of how things will work until you put them together. I would say it might help if they are all housed together and you can watch them interact before buying them.

    I have 2 parakeets they fight and act like they like each other then fight again plus they are always talking. I have a cage a little bigger then yours and they are almost always together. And if there aren't any rooms where the parakeets can't hide or can't get hurt is the bathroom an option?

    • @ParrotPerch
      @ParrotPerch  10 років тому +2

      Hmmm, keeping a Budgie in the bathroom is an interesting question. I would be cautious about it, simply because Budgies are very sensitive to fumes, so if there are chemicals being used in there (such as hairspray, cleaners, air fresheners, etc.), it could cause problems. Also, I am not sure if continual humidity would be good for them, since their ancestors are from a pretty dry environment. Finally, teflon fumes (produced at high heat) can be fatal to birds, so if anyone uses teflon coated hair appliances in the bathroom, it could be problematic.

    My female budgie keeps biting my male budgie on the head, so I pretty much should just separate them in different cages? She bites him on the head and he starts to scream, Not sure how I should stop her. I usually just skoot her to one side and lightly tap her beak to stop it from reoccurring, but nothing seems to work so far.

      Mike Ike - [NS]HR•Officer• make sure your cage is big enough also if this happens commonly on females there pretty bossy and territorial my older female Kira sometimes gets aggressive with the flock I have six budgies so you could pretty much imagine that they should have plenty of space to avoid each other.

    • @justhereforthe_comments8994
      @justhereforthe_comments8994 5 років тому

      This is common, females can be bullies to the boys, you’ll usually (hopefully) find that they’re not actually injuring each other, more asserting dominance. If anything gets too loud definitely shoo off the aggressor and reassure the boy. Make sure you have a big enough cage horizontally, not up and down, as budgies need more side room than vertical. Also if you have 2 budgies, put out 3 food bowls and spread them out around the cage. Hopefully this helps :) minor disagreements will always be had, kinda like us with our family, I love watching their little dramas and then making up 😂

    • @justhereforthe_comments8994
      @justhereforthe_comments8994 5 років тому

      The_Derpy Chinchilla definitely agree, my oldest female Diabla is the most dominant, she has bent a tail feather or 20 in her time👀 😂 she’s never injured any of her flock, she will only assert herself if they come for her “patch”. I’ve got 7 and only 1 of them is male so as you can imagine everyday there is a drama 🙄 😂 the cage size is so important, god forbid my cage was too small. I’m actually upgrading the size again just to make sure they’re getting enough exercise

      hey can someone give me advice on what to do? i'm a bit late so an immediate reply is not expected c:
      i've had two male lovebirds for a week. one is peach faced and the other is white and blue (i think the peach faced bird might be older, but they are both young). the peach faced bird has started pecking at the other bird and it's gotten to the point where their fighting includes flying around the cage. i've got only one big cage so i wouldn't be sure how to separate them. i haven't let them out of the cage yet and they are still scared of me. what should i do? should i give away one bird? they were both bought from a market and they were in the same cage. these are my first birds so i'm pretty inexperienced.

    • @justhereforthe_comments8994
      @justhereforthe_comments8994 5 років тому

      venus you should get another cage to separate asap. Sounds like they need females. You should either get 2 females, or swap one of your males for one. This won’t stop because of the species and lack of females. Also try and let them out the cage, that way they’ll have more room to really sort out who’s boss without being able to properly corner and hurt the other. Maybe by the end of that they’ll have made a mutual agreement 😂 also make sure you have 3 water dishes and 3 food dishes that are well spaced out, just to minimise resource guarding

    Our cage is big enough, there are multiple water and food spots in there aswell.
    But our male follows the female and attacks her. If she eats in spot 1 and he in spot 2, he stops eating, goes to spot 1, disturbs/attacks her and eats from spot 1. If she goes to spot 3, he follows again.
    No idea what to do since they cuddle and groom each other
    Yesterday he made the female bleed on her head. We dont want to give one away. Solutions?

      My female budgie just laid 8 more eggs! I know 4 are fertile so far. But my problem is mom picks on well fights with her own chick! The chick is about 2 mos old and is a female. What should i do and why is she doing this?

    I'm seriously stressing about my budgies. they get on fine outside of their cage but when i put them together for the first time, my older budgie constantly has a go at the younger one and bites the back of her neck. so I took her out but as soon as I did that they start calling to each other. what do I do? let them fight and hope it doesn't get too serious

    I need help, I think both of my female parakeets are pregneat. We just sold our extra cage, and boom once we do that its fighting. My mom thinks its because they both are fighting over a nest foodbowl thing one of the females created to lay eggs in. I tried solving this by putting another food bowl nest thing up there. Hopefully it works. :)
    Also, I have a giant cage for my birds, (99$ cage)
    I treat them with honeycombs, millet, lettuce every week.
    I give them 3 food bowls and 1 water bowl.
    I have lots of toys, but what am I doing wrong? Eh, its probaly a prengnancy that the birds have or something.

    • @ParrotPerch
      @ParrotPerch  6 років тому

      If the birds are trying to lay, there definitely could be fighting over nesting space. It sounds like they have enough other resources, so that's great! I would add some additional fruits and vegetables to their diet because lettuce is pretty much devoid of any nutrition, although it's a fun snack. If your birds are laying eggs without a male, you can cut down on some of their desire by removing nesting areas and cutting down their light during the day (max 12 hours daily). Your birds also might simply get along once they get adjusted to the new environment!

    Hi, I like your videos. Its so encouraging. I have 2 budgies. And they are now sweethearts. The problem is I cant tame the Timmy( blue) the yellow one is getting used to my hands. But if they are with each other, the yellow named Tweety also gets freak. So i have them separated. I put Timmy in a small cage to tame her. After some days I tamed her. But, If I bring her back to Tweety she will instantly ignore me. By the way, I have them just a few months now. How long it will take them to trust me? I spend almost of my day just to be with them.

    • @ParrotPerch
      @ParrotPerch  6 років тому

      Have you tried coaxing them out with some treats, like millet? You might have some success putting some millet somewhere close to the cage opening, and waiting to see if your birds come out for it. Doing this at mealtimes would be best when your birds are hungry! Also, make sure that the environment where the birds will be flying is safe for them. If there's any perceived threat or concern, your birds will feel safer in the cage.

    I had two parakeets that were breeding. The male got very aggressive with the female. Eventually I had to take him out of the cage. He picked her feathers, blood around head/eye. She looks really bad. I've never had this issue before.

      @ParrotPerch  10 років тому

      Hi Julia. Wow, I am sorry that your male got so aggressive. I can't say I have heard about another pair that acted that way, but when hormones are raging, a Budgie's normal behavior can really be altered. Glad you decided to separate them...that sounds like it was the best plan of action. Hopefully the male calmed down a bit afterwards.

    My birds just had a fight two females, I think I know the cause. You see their mother claimed one of my baskets in my room as a nesting box, I let her keep it cause why not, now the other two females have Been trying to find one just like hers and lucky for them I got another basket the oldest feamale claimed that one her little sister on the other hand didn’t have one they fought. I tried to separate them receiving many bites from them and the little one has a d injured wing caused by the oldest ones foot grasping it the oldest one has a minor scrape on her foot. It was a terrifying experience it almost made cry because I was worried about my babies

    • @ParrotPerch
      @ParrotPerch  7 років тому

      If they are fighting in the cage, maybe you can take them out individually. Since budgies have different personalities, some may get along and some may not. I wouldn't worry about a small amount of pecking, but if they are hurting each other, you may want to think about separating them. Even putting them in a bigger cage, especially if they don't have a lot of room right now, can help. Keeping breeding conditions controlled is also useful (don't give them 12 hrs. or more of light/day, a nestbox, etc.).
