- Finally got to get out on the trails with my beautiful wife Kala, and her 97 TJ "Lil Sketchy" We have been building this jeep together for a long time, and in this video we give a little shakedown run on the trails at Gulches Off Road Park, in Laurens County S.C.
some specs : 5.3 LS, 08 Superduty axles, 40" TSL SX2s, Artec front truss, DIY Hyrdo assist with PSC ram, 5.38 gears, Yukon grizzly lockers front and rear, metal cloak 6" springs up front, 14" travel shocks, stretched 7" out back.. we give some more info on the build, some background on the jeep, and we get to see just what kind of a beating this lil jeep can take as she tackles some of the tougher trails that gulches has to offer. stock XJ leaf Springs and 15" travel shocks, Motobilt Stretch bumper to end up with a 105" wheelbase.

Girl can drive
yeah she can!
It was such a great trip! Love the new build and can't wait to take her on many more rides!
you did great!
same tire size and tons/gearing.. I'm excited to start me 5.3/4L60e build... Seems more than powerful enough 4 u... NICE . I might pick your brain with the wiring later...
Sweet rig! Thanks for sharing!
thanks! we appreciate it, thanks for watching!
That's one badass TJ
thanks!
Nice jeep. Love that v8 sound.....awesome
thanks its super loud for sure lol
Now that looks like a super fun park. Wish I could wheel with you guys more. Definitely like the way you're going with the jeep
it's a great place! we can't wait to see what you got going on with the buggy, we'll see yall in October!
Love the video!! I’m building a 1 ton TJ on my channel right now and can’t wait to eventually 5.3 swap it!
Thank you! It's been one of the best things we've done. Tons of power
@@SketchyJeeps what are you running for exhaust?
@michaelmcclellan9422 still rocking the temp setup of Sanderson headers to some flex pipe dumped out the passenger side 😆
Super legit video man!
thanks man, we had fun makin it happen
nice build. good team. i can say everyone needs swampers in their life. i have a set of 34x10.50/17 for my 2021 zr2 and it just goes. not like yours but amazing just the same. i am leaning towards a yj build for retirement fun. time to get sketchy.
Thanks! It's been a great build so far, unfortunately the tires are still the downfall. We're planning on the super swamper 43sx stickys. Love a good yj build, But you can build the heck out of a chevy too haha
Nice!!!!
thanks! always a work in progress
@@SketchyJeeps isn’t that always the case 😂 I have two and it’s never ending. So why not a third right?
haha of course. we have 4 if you don't count the parts jeeps lol never ending.
Jesse questioning Kala on the build, knowing full well he built it himself is funny.
it's just some movie magic lol
Nice build, thinking about doing something similar soon
it's done pretty good, but we are about to work on it and get it on a new level soon.
@@SketchyJeeps hell yeah, I've been on atv and sxs kick for too long, i break them every ride. Im in Florida but have friends that go up north all the time and ride, so i decided to sell off the atvs and build a ls jeep. If like to build to a 37 at least but idk for sure yet, 35 is more achievable right now
nice, there's nothing like an LS powered rig. hers is pretty much stock, and has more power than it needs haha
@@SketchyJeeps yessir, how's the 4l60 hold up
@@SketchyJeeps i plan to keep the engine stock for a while, ya know for reliability purposes 😆🤣
Put a atlas 4 speed diff in that thing and you can crawl almost anywhere.
Love this build. I would like to know more on the rear setup please. What leafs you use?
thanks! it's a Motobilt YJ rear stretch bumper, uses stock XJ leaf springs flipped, with the barnes 1" stretch perches on the sterling, it ended up with around 8" rear stretch. we're currently using stock crown XJ leaf springs. with no bumpstops out back it gets crazy good flex, but goes through springs quick (2-3 trips and they are flattened) going to move to 3" lift spring and add bumpstop and see how that works.
also, we have a ruff stuff Antiwrap bar, works awesome, no axle wrap to speak of, which is what usually destroys the xj springs when you flip them. I think our issue is just too much flex wearing the springs out.
@@SketchyJeeps man thank you! I love it just had to watch it flex again. Really looks like a runner!!! I’m doing the same for sure.
@@xjbeater8638 no problem! it does pretty damn good. were still working the kinks out, but it's been great so far.
@@SketchyJeeps you built it right that’s for sure. Your ol lady don’t fuck around hahaha. My wife has that blue 03 rubicon like hers kinda lol. I inherited my best friends Jeep. His mom gave it to me he took his life in February after getting out the marines. I will be keeping it for life you know what I mean? But if I didn’t get er dirty he be mad.lol
What psi were you running in those TSL's?
Pretty sure they were around 15 or so. They are a super stiff compound and didn't flex very good. We ended up cutting them up to get some better traction, did beadlocks, now we run them at about 3-5 PSI. They do much better...but the SX2 is just too hard of a compound to be useful.
I got a another question for ya bro. So got my bumper still need my fuel cell. When going from stock tj coils to xj leafs I’ll probably go stock height. You use stock xj leafs right? And your rocking 40”tires?lol
As in would I have to have huge tires on 8.8 to look right or 35 do? Thanks
yes we used stock xj leaf springs, if i had to guess, that setup, with the larger axle tube of the sterling 10.5 axle, and height of spring perches, it equals about a 4.5" lift. because it sits lower in the back and the front is on 6" metalcloak springs. I'll say we tossed some 35s on it and it looked pretty goofy with the comp cut lol
@@SketchyJeeps I figured.lol reason I’m doing this is it will save a ton when switching to tons and I love the way my trail beater xj rides. Just seems more stable on them trails with leafs in the rear and still flex’s like no other. Thanks brother!
no problem man good luck, maybe we'll see you on the trails someday
@@SketchyJeeps thanks. Maybe. I’m in Ky so Ky, Tennessee area. A little of Indiana.
What front coils are you running ??
Metalcloak 6" coils.
All that thing needs is a 4 speed atlas transfer case now.
4 speed atlas would be awesome, so many options for different terrains
What trans are you running
4l60E, so far so good.
What transmition do you have?
4l60e, currently missing third gear lol
which transfer you have?
241C transfer case with iron rock slip yoke eliminator kit
