    I don’t think you are going to get much hate about the automatic, anybody who is serious about their Jeep knows it offers way more control. I would convert your a/c pump to on board air. If you want to swap transfer cases I would start looking for a Dana 300 and flip it . Front stretch is a pain and going coil overs will make it way easier than keeping the coils. Basically you are taking about my YJ. Maybe you should do a walk around of my Yj.

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  2 роки тому

      The a/c pump has been converted to onboard air for more than 10 years. The compressor just went out on me a few months back. The Dana 300 and everything to flip it with gears and everything is very expensive almost not worth it. Just getting an rubicon tcase or atlas at some point.

    • @paularbon5810
      @paularbon5810 2 роки тому

      I must have missed that your already had your a/c converted. Dan 300 can be done on a budget.. flip ring is 100 bucks. A case usually go for 4 to 5 hundred. You can make your own shifters pretty cheap as well. People get caught up in needed HD output shafts and gearing and that’s when it starts to add up. I bought my 300 with a 4:1 gear set for 650. Rubicon cases are pretty expensive now. The cheapest I’ve seen was 1200. The 2nd low and the ability to do front digs make the 300 a good case. If I bought a new t-case now I would probably buy the midnight metalworks 300

    @muddy beards 4x4 Thanks for putting these vids together for us to follow along. Do you think a similar build would be practical on a yj? Considering the suspension and drive line are so heavily modified I would think there isn't much different between the two but I haven't seen many compact 40" yj build. Thanks again 👍

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  Рік тому +1

      Thanks, the YJ is a great platform, the frame, suspension and drivetrain are basically the same as the Tj, just the tub, interior, cage are different. So yes throwing 40’s on a YJ is basically the same amount of work as the tj.

    Thanks for sharing. I have a question regarding the rear axle. Why did you chose a Ford 9.0 over a Ford 8.8? I'm looking to swap my rear axle, but over here in the Netherlands, a D44 of Ford 8.8 is priced it's weight in gold. However, a Ford 8.8 is still cheaper, but needs more fab work. I'm not a rock crawler, most of the time it's dirt/sand. Would a Ford 8.8 hold up running 35's? Thanks mate.

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  2 роки тому +1

      I ran the 8.8 for years, it was a great axle and I never had an issue with it. I even ran it with 40’s. So 35’s will be just fine.

      The Ford 9" is in many circles the best axle ever made. In the hard core 4x4 world it isn't quite the best, but darn close. It has tons of options and even in factory form is super strong.

    • @milesff7
      @milesff7 2 роки тому

      Ford switched from 9 inch, to 8.8 because the 9” is too reliable, believe it or not. The dealerships need work, so they needed to find a product that was 95%. Drag racers pretty much exclusively use them.

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  2 роки тому +1

      It works fine. The only reason I did it was I got it cheap used. They are too expensive and this particular tank doesn’t give me as much stretch as I would like. I would probably go fuel cell recessed in the tub down flush with the frame and build something around it so I still had some storage back there if I had to pay full price.

    • @samsanderson7159

      @@MuddyBeards4X4 thanks for the feedback. That tank is a lot of money. It's hard to justify when compared to a cell.
