  • I set off on a search for clues that Copiapoa cacti are definitely regenerating in the wild, after reading and hearing reports that their seed is no longer germinating. Join us as we visit the home of Copiapoa cinerea albispina, copiapoa krainziana and a couple of other majestic species from the Atacama desert region.

    I've been watching your videos for a while now and I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you and the people around you are doing. I randomly stumbled upon your channel due to my obsession with Lophophora, which has been ongoing for most of my life. Thanks to your videos, my obsession is now spreading to other species, like Copiapoa, Aztekium and Astrophytum and I recently got my hands on my first Astrophytum myriostigma, which will surely not be my last.
    As someone from Europe, I hope to be able to see some of those cacti in habitat at some point, but, for now, I'm grateful that you are allowing me and many others to see these magnificent plants in their natural state.
    Please stay as excited about and committed to cacti conservation as you are and please keep producing these videos.

    Such unworldly looking plants thriving in a barren landscape . It really helps to see what their native growing conditions are.
    I wonder though, if I give them better growing conditions such as slow release fertilizer , will they grow larger or should I not pamper them at all ?

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  Рік тому

      You might be able to speed up their growth a tiny bit, but they will look very green in comparison to plants that are grown in nutrient poor conditions. They will grow slightly weaker as well.

    Would it help if nurseries and local entusiasts grow cactus from seed bring back young plants in to habit?

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  10 місяців тому +1

      That would be amazing. Some collectors in very remote areas that I’ve met do this on a regular basis. It definitely helps as long as the ecosystem itself is allowed to survive.

    Hey unrelated, but i just got some seed grown dealbatas from a eu seller, was wondering if they have taproots? Ive never seen cinereas with taproots so i was wondering.
    Also would the soil mix be similar to ariocarpus mix? Thanks in advance.

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  11 місяців тому

      Not that I know of, soil mix should be adjusted with a bit of organic content and maybe granite. I use my mix: www.eastcoastcamanchaca.com/shop/p/southamericancactussoil

    Do you worry about people finding the cactus from your videos to poach them?

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  11 місяців тому

      Not at all, since the few times I do show roads, they’re not from the same day or unrelated to the ecosystem.
