I have never heard any recordings of him that was as good as the concert he gave at our high school in 1970. He was fantastic. I can remember it like it was yesterday.
Well, I would say that he was also a very humble cat like May was. He was one of the nicest guys I ever knew and he was a very good teacher to me and a lot of other cats. I was very fortunate to have had him as a teacher and a friend and even after all these years I still miss him terribly.
+Jan Škrbec It's trumpet and piccolo Jan. Bud had a very different sound from about E above high C.I It was a gorgeous sound very different than the forced sound that a lot of cats have in that register, perhaps because it was pretty much still in his middle range of playing ability. *LOL* I love to hear Carl Saunders play in that range because his sound reminds me a lot of the beautiful sound that Bud had in that register. Some cats just make it sound effortless. Wayne Bergeron comes to mind.
+Jim Henry Thank you for the answer. His tone is something else indeed, it's so powerful and filled with emotion, no resistance whatsoever. It gives me goosebumps everytime.
Attended a clinic he gave at our high-school and asked about the toughest thing for him to overcome. He said. ACCURACY. He aid in the beginning he would set for a high note and miss it by a fifth sometimes :) At that time (~1974) he said he was getting big into weightlifting...
This was from Bud's Band Butane, charts mostly by Don Menza and I think Mike Barone. Smaller ensemble, it was Bud's way of trying to break out on his own.
I don't know if it's on purpose or a happy mistake, but at 4'22, it's not Bud Brisbois, but my dear friend the Great Andrea Tofanelli, another great musician with tremendous extreme high register
Bud played as a guest artist with a local big bang I was a member of back about 1968. He gave a clinic in the afternoon and played with our band at night. He was very humble--you would never imagine looking at him or watching him that he had such an astonishing range. I really enjoyed the few hours I got to spend with him.
Not even close. Bud had a great high register, but his sound in the lower register left much to be desired. Doc sounded rich and beautiful in all registers. Bud sounded pretty good in the upper register on a Bb trumpet, but on piccolo, his sound was terrible and his playing was inaccurate with a lot of clams.

+Jim Henry Is it piccolo trumpet that he's playing here?

junkyman2, I never met Bud Brisbois, but I know many musicians who played with him and they have only good things to say about him.

I didn't know President Richard Nixon played trumpet (5:00 - guy on the right).
Lol! Yeah, huh?!
Yep. If he'd only stuck with trumpet.
Some of us practice a lifetime- n can't play like this- I wonder if he was as humble as Maynard- ??

Played with Louie Valizan, another amazing cat.
Sounds a bit like Doc Severinsen.
