You are fantastic. The best teacher! I am in love with your videos. I already made tea pots your style. It worked miraculously. A big Thank you to you!!!
His laying the ring of clay over and pushing it down to open out,, has eliminated the skirt and the need to cut it off. Also does not have to pull the sides strait up making access to cutting the skirt! Fabulous!
@doriecronin No, I will not. I haven't attended any NCECA since New Orleans some 15 years ago. After San Diego NCECA they have never took place in west coast. I would go if it is close to SF Bay Area.
Hi Hsinchen. I was just wondering why you don't flatten the mound of clay to widen the base before you drop the hole and draw the clay out. It seems like you're giving yourself extra work, yes? Thanks so much.
This is great! Thanks for sharing :). I do find it hard to work with my left hand in spreading bowls and plates out. I noticed that I work on the left side of the wheel when I open up the bowl of clay. This may be the reason why my pieces get off center. I am working to correct this!
Love your videos! I have learned a lot watching them. I am still having a problem extending the clay evenly to the desired width. Any suggestions? I compress heavily but keep getting 's' cracks as well.
I am always learning from your videos, amazing work! It appears that your bat is about 16", what is the finished platter size, and how much clay are you using? Thank you for sharing, Sharon

@SharJoyC My bat is 15" and the finished size is the same as the bat, and I used aprox. 8lbs porcelain clay.
Thank you for showing your trick of getting rid of the centre bump when you smooth the inside bottom surface. That's so helpful!
Whenever I get frustrated with clay I watch you throw and it calms me down. You are a master

How do you prevent cracking and warping when firing large plates or platters? Can you notch the foot or make some kind of plate setter?
@SharJoyC Thank you, I'll have to get out and try your technique! Hope we get to see you trim it :)
Great instructions.
@hsinchuen I'd love to go as well...just needs to be closer to California :)

Around 8 lb
Really, really helpful!
Thank you, very informative!
What do you use to round the edges of your pots? It doesn't look like a chamie (?). Share :) !
is that a cloth that you use for smoothing the nib?
well done.

It would b nice if you had a wheel that didn’t make so much noise.
@hsinchuen Next one is in Seattle; at least that is West Coast
mesmerizing.
Your wheel needs a new bearing!
