This band is incredible and I think Starburster might be their best song yet. For me they are up there with Wolf Alice and Wunderhorse as one of the best current rock bands
@@jfr1612_have to agree. I know WA have some good songs but whenever I hear them I just think, is this what passes for ‘alternative music’ these days. Another frothy vocalist, ho hum. But it’s inevitable now that more people know Fontaines DC that’s they’ll get lumped in with all those other, not very mind blowing acts.
My favourite thing about the music video is Grian stealing an apple in "heaven" and eating it. Forshadowed by the apple tree painting. Gives me stong Eve and the forbidden fruit vibes, dangerous tempations. The angel number 999 on his forhead is an interesting easter egg too
This is such a great take on that scene!!! I think you are 100% right here and as for your previous comment it totally ties in with this theory too! Loved hearing what you thought the song and videos meaning is. How incredible is it that a body of work can have so many people see it so many ways! There really aren’t many bands nowadays who can inspire creativity like this! Appreciate the comments!!
I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned that the bit where he "died" is a cross-over into Jade's "Angel of my Dreams" video: ua-cam.com/video/UEc-oy93lf8/v-deo.html Same director unsurprisingly! He first appears at 2:28.
Great insight gents. I read Grianne wrote the lyrics after a panic attack at a train station. But the symbolicism and atmosphere has so many layers. Had this on repeat for weeks now and it still gives me the chills
I loved to hear your interpretation!!👏🏻 To me, Starbuster is about artists escaping into hedonistic things - sex drugs & rock n roll. Chasing "momentary blissness" (with emphasis on momentary). Maybe the pig in Starbuster, Romance, the Jimmy Fallon performance, etc. is a pig philosophy in utilitarism reference. Whether intentional or not, I guess pretty much all performers have a stage persona. They have the gift of being able to be anyone that they wanna be and at the same time face the danger of loosing who they are in the process. There are many expectations if you are famous
Starburster is a banger 🤘🔥 Fontaines DC is also my favorite band right now, for the exact reasons you said. I haven't been this excited for an album to drop in years. You're right about Grian's poetry, and the music is exciting and it's all just brilliant. But you asked for lyric interpretation and thoughts: I read this as a commentary on the social media influence culture. And I got there from the chorus: "I'm gon hit your business if it's momentary blissniss (inhale)" and that inhale feels like a bong rip to me. And it kind of connects to what you were saying about how this is the first generation that doesn't have to follow the model. People don't have to get "real" jobs anymore because they can be content creators. And, as you may have noticed, there are content creators that are producing content just to have a lot of content. What's the new fad? What's the new challenge? What's the new trend? Look at me for 30 seconds before you continue your doom scroll! And the "sloping family, short to tall" line made me think of those "family " influencers, where everyone is blonde and has white teeth and they're always happy. I confess, I was not confident my reading was the band's intended message, but I loved how I was thinking about it! And I'm glad you asked for opinions, because I've been looking to share 😜😂 This is a conversation I would love to be having over pints in a pub, a spirited exchange over poetry interpretations; this band is so exciting, they make me feel young again ❤
Music that can be interpreted differently by every listener is AMAZING to me! Should never have to ask what the song is about but instead the band as you what do you think it’s about. Imo best band around at the moment!! Thanks for the comment!
I read that those inhale sounds are referring to an actual panic attack Grian suffered on the London underground a packed train and it's him gasping for air.
I think it’s about a panic attack that Grian had at St Pancras. The fact that all of this is read into and people have their own interpretations is why I love his lyrics. I had a completely different interpretation.
Great band. Their debut album was amazing! First song I heard was The Lotts and then I was hooked. This is another banger - reminds me a lot of early Kasabian which is no bad thing! Big hip hop influences. Would love to hear it live
Its' probably to complex for most people to understand like if you can't get it straight away it's like oh not for me sad really. but the best band out there at the moment 🎉
the big gasps he takes reminds me of someone having a panic attack or coming back to consciousness. maybe he wants to do all these things he says but he just doesn't have the time or ability to do it all in this life, making him spiral into an anxiety/panic attack at the thought of not being able to choose what he wants to be. just a different POV, probably not the correct one
Nail on the head! Grian has said in interview ms that it’s about him having a panic attack on the London tube, the gasp of air after the momentary blissness just reminds me of an inhaler and obviously the big focus on it in the video! Such a banger!!
Echoing what Calum said here you actually smashed it haha! Believe it was Grian talking on Jools Holland he mentions what the song means to him you should check it out!

Great shouts I never hear Wolf Alice get mentioned but I strongly agree unbelievable band!!
Wunderhorse or Wolf Alice aren't within an Arse's screech of Fontaines DC!!!
@@jfr1612_ funny cause Wunderhorse is playing with Fontaines DC in Copenhagen (maybe more places as well on the romance tour)
Truly incredible band! Starbuster is definitely up there and it could be no.1 if “I Love You” didn’t exist.

The lad got the interpretation spot on here. Great video!
Thank you!
Every generation has said this. It's nothing special. The lyrics are truly nonsensical as most lyrics should be

@@MoreMeetArthur that's awesome i'll check that out, when an artist creates music that makes you peel back the layers, it's super rewarding haha
asthmatic breath, and you see the inhalers
