Only true fans of the show can do a parody like this - most of the elements are here, from Elizabeth's nerves right down to the look of Hyacinth's kitchen and front door. I could only imagine what 'Richard' and 'Emmet' would've been like!
I am a huge “Keeping Up Appearances” fan, and this spoof had me laughing so hard, especially Elizabeth shaking like an earthquake when she was in the kitchen!😂
Hyacinth missed pointing out that the cups were Royal Doulton with hand painted periwinkles. (Which by the way, is a pattern that does not exist.) The actual dishes used were Colclough Braganza, made by a division of Royal Doulton.
It’s difficult and almost unheard of to parody a show that’s already a comedy, especially one as camp as this. French & Saunders always made light of dramas, thrillers and horrors, which made it funny as they were putting a ridiculous comedic spin on something so dark. So to spoof this show and pull it off so successfully (Hyacinth being a man in drag is a stroke of genius), is a huge achievement.
A, a little... too... over the top maybe? I dunno. It goes more for physical humor than understanding what made the physical humor funny - which was the motivation of the characters.
This is a dutch tv show with all kind of parody's. The man who is playing Hyancinth(Carlo Boshard) is also playing Onslow. The woman who is playing Daisy is also playing Elisabeth(Irene Moors) They just overdo all the mannerisms and expressions and make a connection with the Netherlands(Frans Bouwer) that's why it makes it a parody. They love this show and that's why they made a parody of it
Actually Keeping Up Appearances is ENGLISH and Hyacinth is played by the English actor Patricia Routledge (she's currently 92 years old and still alive,I found that out on Google)
As a Brit who grew up with Mrs Bucket on the telly, I can tell you the acting is spot on, as well as the slap stick. Its just weird hearing Elizabet instead of Elizabeth
All the characters are played by Carlo Boszhard and Irene Moors. The man playing Onslow is the same one playing Hyacinth. Daisy and Elisabeth are the same woman.
Wish they would do a whole episode as a parody! Would love to see Rose and Richard! The best would be to have an appearance by the never seen Sheraton Bouquet doing his needlepoint with his friend Tarquin 😅😂
A show where Sheridan comes home with Tarquin for Christmas could have had a lot of potential. Tricky to get right, and it was decades ago in gay years. This year there are a couple of gay couple Christmas TV movies!
Awesome video. I loved the kitchen scene. Elizabeth was amazing as she finally destroyed the entire tray of royal doulton with hand painted periwinkles. The people who played in this parody were awesome
Brilliant parody of the great British tv show KUA. It's so funny 😂. This parody can be seen as a tribute of respect to the original tv show and actors. The parody actors and many Dutch people love this tv show.
SoapsNthings Yes I Strongly Believe that to be Spot on. I thought at first that it was indeed that it was the actual Actress Whom Played the ever Sweet Friendly but yet Clumsy Woman lol
I totally agree with you on that. Those are both very funny series that I enjoy watching, even though I'm from the northern US. I'm part English, and I think English-based comedies are better than American comedies!
Very funny and very accurate. In fact it's so accurate that at first I thought it was British people pretending to have Dutch accents, when it's actually the other way round!
I haven't laughed this hard in a long time! The Dutch are no less funny than their British counterparts. And, thank you for the Vendex Headstart LX-CD computer in the early 90s. You are terrific folk, and maybe one day I'll be able to come for a visit.
@@romendez78 Daisy and Onslow are spot on. Daisy in particular is perfect. Hyacinth and Elizabeth could be better. Hyacinth expressions got their timing a bit off. Elizabeth looks usually frightened, not miserable like here.
This is excellent. It is hilariously OTT and captures the very essence of the characters. It is very interesting that it was popular in the NL but I suppose you have people who do behave like this in every country so it translates well in other countries.
Absolutely spot on! What a fantastic parody. If you watch Keeping Up Appearances then watch this you'll will see so many comparisons. Parodies are supposed to be over the top - remember The House of Idiot? What a shame that some people have resulted to petty name-calling and xenophobic insults.
Absolutely hilarious. Seems a bit strange - a Dutch parody, in English with Dutch subtitles, of an English comedy. Keeping Up Appearances was good but deserves to be sent up. They do it excellently.
A little OTT but still laughed out aloud, especially when she says "Come in Elizabeth" and then proceeds to go inside and slam the door in Elizabeth's face X-D X-D, that's typical Hyacinth hehehe.
Years ago I (from the US) was visiting a college friend who had married a Dutch guy and was living in the Hague. She said everyone there speaks three or four languages. I stupidly said "really?" She said "think about it". ".......Oh." Obviously a Dutch speaker can't go an hour or two away without being in a country with a different language. Also since post WWII occupation etc. English has become the default common language everywhere, conveniently for us. But that they got the accents of the characters pretty close was an achievement.
That is wonderful. I have the entire set of DVD's and watch them all of the time. I'll bet if the actual actors saw this (hopefully they have) they would find this so funny.
If you didn't understand this parody it is most likely you do not have a Mercedes, sauna, or room for a pony.
Nor a private villa in Ibiza.
I understand it though

Holy cow the Hyacinth impersonator was priceless.
This is absolutely hilarious. How did I not know this existed?
I never knew that Keeping Up Appearances was popular in the Netherlands. This parody is spot on!
It was very very very popular!!! Several reruns too!
We in the Netherlands ❤ love Hyacinth ❤

You prick,Hyacinth is FEMALE
Growing up in Texas my mom and laughed so hard every Sunday night watching this. British comedies are the best!!!
The parody is so funny! Poor Elizabeth
One of the best parodies I've ever seen. And to think, they did it in English, too. They nailed the characters perfectly. Very very funny.
OMG! Leave it to the Dutch to take this show over the top with a parody. Well done! Lol.
I adore Keeping Up Appearances and this is a superb parody! They really caught the essence of the characters.
This has to be one of the best versions of any parody that I’ve seen to date!
"I DO hope the neighbours are watching" LOL!
"COME IIIIIIN!" slams dore in face...... had to start video over as I was laughing too much to watch
You mean door
Onslow's voice is so freaking accurate
He did the voice of Paul McCartney in the Yellow Submarine cartoon.
It was terrible 😅
As a Brit who absolutely adored KUA,I actually found this rather amusing, slightly OTT but isn't that what parody is?!
As a non Brit, I found it to be spot on. They brought into play basically all the characters strengths and weaknesses.
It hit all the marks and was obviously an affectionate tribute, as if there could be any other way of doing it.
Although not that OTT
A, a little... too... over the top maybe? I dunno. It goes more for physical humor than understanding what made the physical humor funny - which was the motivation of the characters.
