I agree to some extent because sometimes when the happiness of one of the characters solely depends on the love interest it’s pretty problematic because so much weight is on the love interest and it turns from love into like a strong one-sided dependency.
@@bangtanswaterbottle7522 The "Shatter Me" series by Tahereh Mafi and "The Marked Mage Chronicles" by Victoria Evers are definitely my favorites of this trope!!
I love them to an extent because usually books with this trope usually involve a love interest that has some sort of disease or chronic illness which I enjoy but find a little bit strange to see in so many stories. When it involves someone a love interest that is like moving somewhere else I enjoy so much.
Literally true and if u want to read a best friends brother read beneath the stars (I have bot read it but want to )(I think this is series so it is so fun to read )
enemies/rivals to lovers, bodyguard romance and star crossed lovers (only when it's done right!) are legit my fav! unpopular opinion: i LOVE the unplanned pregnancy trope. idk if its my trauma manifesting (it probably is), but something about seeing a guy do the absolute bare minimum and step up to be a father (and eventually husband) just hits the spot for me yk? its fucked up but i love it.
no i actually enjoy them cuz the “bad boy” of the story with trauma and “no care about the world but their s/o” finds smth more to be responsible of and enjoy really changes their character development
I love the “smart-serious character who hates cocky-mischievous/sarcastic character but after some time they realise they have grown into them” kind of trope (for example Rollan and Meilin. They are a mix of bad boy/good girl, rivals to lover, and poor boy/rich girl which are my favourite tropes)
I fucking love books with the grumpy-sunshine kinda trope...like a girl being innocent, quirky, witty, kind, silly...I could recommend some like lilac, dalaric and octavias from wattpad
There’s a book on wattpad called “The Perfect Spiral” which is a childhood friends to dating to enemies (kinda) to lovers but it’s also brothers best friend
I was just mentally screaming for you to put bad boy/good girl & grumpy/sinshine in the highest rankings, and when you did I was like "YEEEEESSSSSS, LESSS GOOOOO" those tropes will never get old no matter how cliche they get
For good boy bad girl I would recommend 'As far as the starts by Virginia macerator' its such a gate and emotional book, the girl isn't really that bad she is just a bit defensive and tough headed, but the lead male character is such a sweetheart
My recommendation for a book with good boy/bad girl trope is ,,Feel again" by Mona Kasten. I would say that this one and ,,Archer's voice" are the books to which I returned most often
I need a single parent book rec. Preferably one where the guy is the single parent and he has a soft spot for the kid but hates or dislikes everyone else.
Im writing a good boy/ bad girl trope book right now im so excited!! I've been working really hard on it i made sure to add unexpected plot twists and to hint it in the subtlest way as possible. I really want it to be well written and unexpected but also cliche at the same time. Although its more like perfect nice guy/ screw up, cool, bad girl. She's the most hated person but that's just because nobody knows the reason why she do the things she does. Im writing many many advanced chapters before i publish it on wattpad so that i dont keep my reader waitng for updates. I make sure to spend as much time as i need to make every chapter perfect. I really hope it goes well.
i agree! i'd also love to read a book with a lovers > enemies > friends, like a more melancholial book. perhaps they could even start as friends and become lovers, but the more they find out about each other they more they find little things that they hate about each other but think they shouldn't hate, or the more they compete against each other until they become enemies. finally at the end they realise they could still love each other and maybe realise the bits of each other that they still love, but also realise they could never healthily love each other the same way as they thought they did before (but the feeling is mutual)

If I can recommend a love triangle book, it would be the Infernal Devices trilogy. It's so smart, heartbreaking and sweet. I love the boys, the heroine, the other characters and the time. It's just so perfect, everything fits.
i get so hyped when i see a new video from you omg. fake dating and childhood friends to lovers are definitely my top tiers. SO excited for the book recs for fake dating!!
bad girl (no matter the boy) is my favorite trope and im also always looking for books with it, one of my faves is misbehaving by abbi glines, it's the sixth book in the sea breeze series and the only one i loved, you could read it on its own but i think you would like some of the others in the series. it was a very popular series back in the day but im not sure i've heard you talk about it so if you haven't read i would recommend to at least check that one.
I think the reason why enemies-to-lovers works and bully romance doesn't is because one of the best things about enemies-to-lovers is the back and forth between the characters. In a bully romance, you have a love story between a bully and their victim, that imbalance in power dynamics doesn't work for me, no matter how redeemable the bully becomes. My personal favourite trope is enemies to friends to lovers, a true god-tier trope.
This - "i love pain and crying in books". I - ugh, i literally told my friend this yesterday, and they were like, ur a masochist, and kinda just looked at me funny, AHAHAHAHAH, ONLY BOOKWORMS WOULD UNDERSTAND SJJSKJSKJSJSS 🥺😩🥰

But then I read Birthday girl and oh was it good 🤎 If you didn't read that one I recommend it.Plus it has a well written age gap romance.
If you want a really good enemies to lovers (based off of your specifics) you should read The Cruel Prince (Folk of Air series). It’s so good!! The enemies to lover trope in it mixed in with all of the “I shouldn’t love them… but I do!” In both of the characters is AMAZING. It’s a fae book, I don’t know if you like fantasy fiction - but this series is amazing and definitely is a good fantasy fiction starter book
A good boy bad girl book I read recently was "the risk" which is the first book in the mindf*ck series! It's so good and each book in that series if amazing. Definitely recommend
I'd love to see your thoughts on the Brown Sisters trilogy by Talia Hibbert! All three of them are grumpy-sunshine romances with some other fun tropes mixed in (first and last have enemies to lovers, second is friends to lovers and fake dating). They are all so funny and will have you cackling! I also think you'd love Black Iris by Elliot Wake (Leah Raeder on Amazon). That one is superrrr dark and messed up!
full tilt by emma scott i would say is definitely in this trope, and a theres a wattpad story with this trope as well that i love and it’s called she’s bad news by Bright_as_night
I also love a good ‘brother’s best friend’ trope. Years back I found a duet that I still think is underrated by Michelle Lynn. Book 1 - Love Surfaced; Book 2 - Love Rekindled. (Also, The Bennett Mafia by Tijan has a strong heroine, and the men do not devalue the women. I’ve read it 2-3 times.)
Steph you should read "The happily ever after playlist" ! The guy is famous and he's a cinnamon roll for the girl and SHE DOESN'T KNOW HE'S FAMOUS WHILE FALLING FOR HIM! It reminded me of the old one direction fanfics but done perfectly. and there's an actual song for each chapter. Highly recommend.
honestly, thank you Steph for making me LOVEE the fake dating trope!! My unpopular opinion was that the fake dating trope would never really speak to me, and I kind of despised it...but when you recommended reading the kiss quotient, and OMG THE SPANISH LOVE DECEPTION (now my fav book), my mind changed for good and now its my fav trope of all time!! OMGGG I LOVE THAT SERIES and I never hear anyone on booktube talk about it AHHHH
I'm reading that right now
I had been interested in trying out romance and I was enjoying watching your videos so much that I finally did! Finished It Ends With Us a few days ago and I'm planning on reading Archer's Voice next. Thank you for the recommendations and your videos in general, they're super relaxing :)
This is literally my comfort UA-cam channel.
I agree with pretty much all of these rankings, and my most adored trope is the childhood friends to lovers it's just so adorable ahhhhhh
Mariana Zapata’s slow burn is my god tier, but I struggle to find more books like hers. 😂 I seriously devoured all those books in one week and it left me with a major boom hangover. Overall, I think my trope tastes are similar to yours, with an exception to ‘perfect love not enough time’, my life is already sad and painful 😂I don’t need more, I prefer happy endings
Yesss!!! I think that Spanish Love Deception tried to do a slow burn but even though it was good, it was as good as Zapata’s!
I absolutely ADORE grumpy/sunshine tropes, if there was a tier above god tier it would be there
