I am so excited to have just stumbled upon your channel Jen! Jane Eyre and North and South are two of my favorite books of all time! And I would like to read some more Daphne DuMaurier as well. Rebecca was my first introduction to her work, and my favorite so far. I also enjoyed Jamaica Inn, which was strangely reminiscent of Wuthering Heights for me in tone and atmosphere. My favorite book of 2023 would either have to be Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi or The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. They're both phenomenal, so it's hard to say. And my favorite bookish gift this year might be the book my husband got for me, which I'm also currently reading, Dear Reader by Cathy Rentzenbrink. I have so many books I want to read in 2024. I'll have to get a priorities list together soon. Your birthing ball scene brought back vivid memories of this past March for me. It feels like yesterday when I was anxiously awaiting my son's birth. I can't believe he's 9m. old already. Congratulations to you and your growing family! I hope your labor goes smoothly and that you and the baby are both happy and healthy. 💕
Thanks so much! You are so right about Jamaica Inn feeling like Wuthering Heights - I think some of Daphne Du Maurier’s works are very similar in style to the Brontës’. I’ve heard so many good things about Evelyn Hugo - I definitely need to read it at some point! Haha, that ball was all that was keeping me going by the end 😂 oh my gosh it goes so quick - I can’t even imagine her at 9 months but I know it will come around before I know it 🙈
Hi, Jen! Great selection of books you've got! I got myself for holidays: Divine rivals, We have always lived in a castle, Christmas bookshop by Jany Colgan and The Reading list - only read The Christmas bookshop for now... (didn't really like it..) The Priory of the orange tree in English is on my night table, but I'm so scared to start to read it, since it's so big book and English is not my native language. We'll see about that. And I've read Snow child few weeks ago, when i was on a holiday in the mountains and it was a perfect read for that time because it has such a beautiful descriptions of Alaska and snow and glaciers. If you like that kind of winter mood and atmosphere, you're gonna like this book.
I’m glad to hear you liked the Snow Child, I’m so excited to read it. ❄️ Wow, reading The Priory of the Orange Tree not in your native language would be very impressive! I hope you enjoy Divine Rivals when you get around to it - I really liked that one ✨
I'm so happy to have found your channel in my recommendations. Your videos are so cosy and aesthetic 🤍 Ps. Divine Rivals and Emily Wilde were my favourite books of 2023 as well 💕
This video made me smile so much, I loved hearing about your favourite books of 2023 and your beautiful book plans for the new year, Jen. Your videos are so cosy and comforting to watch. I am so so glad you discovered and loved Jane Eyre! How special. And ohhh, isn’t the North and South novel so good? I remember reading it shortly after becoming obsessed with the BBC show some years ago and the experience was immersive and wonderful. One of my favourite novels of all time. I didn’t have the biggest reading year in 2023, what with starting new studies and what not, but my favourite book of 2023 would have to be Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky! My favourite book I got for Christmas would have to be a tie between the Clothbound Classic edition of Jane Eyre (gorgeous!) and the special hardcover edition with Tolkien’s own artwork of The Silmarillion. I am looking forward to reading more this year, but I guess my most anticipated book is finally picking up a major Tolstoy novel, like Anna Karenina :). Wishing you the most wonderful, blessed year of books and family and blessedness in 2024!
Awh thank you so much Joy!💛 Wow Crime and Punishment is a huge achievement! I’ve never even attempted that book, but I’m sure it’s such a rewarding and epic read. The book of Tolkien’s art sounds so interesting - what a wonderful way to immerse yourself into the world ✨ I hope you enjoy reading Anna Karenina this year - that’s one I’ve had on my radar to read for a long time too but have never actually convinced myself to pick it up. 😅 Here’s to a wonderful year of reading 📖✨
I am so happy your channel came up in my feed! Jane Eyre and North and South have been on my favorites list for a long time, so glad you love them! I read 84 Charing Cross Road this year, it made my top 5 favorites of 2023. A Curse for True Love and Divine Rivals are both on my TBR and now I'm adding The Wishing Game, it sounds so good. My favorite bookish gift was a 1947 illustrated edition of Little Women, it's just beautiful! Congratulations on your baby, you never knew how big your heart can grow until you have a baby, it's just the best! 📚❤
I also read Jane eyre for the first time this year! Ruth Wilson’s miniseries made me really want to read it. My favorite book from this year was “travelers along the way”, a ya retelling of Robin Hood except Robin Hood is a Muslim girl fighting in the holy war. So so good
I have a copy of Jane Eyre on my shelf, I really must read it soon. I have seen the Charlotte Gainsborough adaptation and loved it. Good luck with the birth!
Hi Jen, happy new year to you 🎉 I also read Jane Eyre for the first time last year ( kind of annoyed with myself for not reading it sooner!). I knew I'd love it, purely based on how much I love the BBC adaptation ( with Toby and Ruth Wilson). It is definitely one of my favourite books now, so much goodness packed into one story - and the writing is sublime!!! I've got Villette by Charlotte Brontë to read soon as I love her writing style.
Happy New Year! ✨ I’m hoping to get to more of Charlotte Bronte’s books this year too - I also have Villette on my shelves so will hopefully get to that one!
I've heard so many good things about Emily's Encyclopedia of Fairies! I'm especially excited to dive into The Woman in White, Jane Eyre (I'd started it on audio last year, but I've decided I'd like a physical copy) and hopefully some Daphne Du Maurier this year - Ive only read Rebecca by her so far but have a second hand edition of Hungry Hill on my shelves. I think my favorite bookish gift was my clothbound edition of The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins that I got from my parents, it's so pretty! Love the videos, they're always so cosy!
It’s so good, I would definitely recommend for something cosy ✨ I hope you enjoy discovering some more Daphne Du Maurier this year too! She is an incredible author. I love the clothbound editions so much - they are such a perfect present 📖
This was just lovely!!! I'm late getting to watch so i hope baby is there now!! ❤🎉🎉
this is just my fav channel on youtube
Aww that’s so kind of you to say 🥰
