how reading has changed for me as a new mum (& my current reading routines)
Reading looks quite different for me since becoming a first time mum. And in many ways, these challenging changes have been for the better! In this video I want to share what reading has looked like at the various stages of motherhood over the past nine months, and what my current reading routines look like.

Hi friends 🥰 In this video I wanted to bring you along with me for my first official week as a stay at home mum. Please remember as you watch this that these are the highlights of my week. I don't record the wake ups through the night, the many many dishwasher runs, the many many many kitchen clean ups, and the tiredness in between. What I hoped to capture was the little moments of joy to be fo...

Huge Life Update 🍼 Book Shopping & Reading Vlog 📖
The Saturday Evening Post was a magazine, at one time very popular.
A video about favourite books is always fun to watch. Thanks for doing this video. The only one I have read is "The Great Gatsby", but "Anne of Green Gables", "Dr Jekyl and mr Hyde" and "And then there were none" are on my tbr. My all time favourite classic is "Middlemarch" by George Elliot. But I haven't read many and so it may change over time.
hey there thank you for a wonderful video i am a very big the unburied giant fan too so there are at least 2 in this world mxncb
I love this novel, but I feel so much disspointed realizing that this book still has wrong reputation in Russian-speaking area. That`s not "light reading for 14 years old teenage girl" as many people still claiming. That`s deep intellectual reading without any gender bias
Hey there 💛 I've just finished my reread of "A Pale View of Hills", 10 years after reading it and this book is still an enigma for me... Want to look up reviews of other readers now. The Daevabad trilogy is my favourite this year. Definitely adding it to my all-time favs. Happy to find fellow fan.✨
💛🌻
Btw the blue castle is one of my all time favourites too 💗
Omg I came across your channel for the first time and i feel so happy and blessed cause i love your energy and videos so much you're so cute ❤❤
I will give Charlotte Bronte's Novel Jane Eyre a try...I want to try that London Fog Creamy Tea Latte.
My fav book ever is the remains of the days. Also his writing is god tier level.
the goat Kazuo.
I absolutely loved this video!🥺 I've also been going through a similar experience where I've found myself unable to find the time to read as much because I recently got married + was travelling for 3 weeks on honeymoon as well, so it's comforting to know that different stages of life present different opportunities and times to read🥰🤎 what a beautiful video!xxx
Congratulations Ahya 🤍 and how lovely to have that three week honeymoon. That is such precious time 💕 I hope you have the best time settling into marriage and the exciting and beautiful journey that it is xx
Thank you! Been struggling to come up with something to get my bookish daughters for Christmas. That booknook idea is great. Added to the list!
They look so much fun!
Thank you so much for making this video and sharing your experiences with us 💕 having the e-reader close by while nursing is such a handy tip, never even thought about that!
I’m so glad it was helpful! ☺️ I think it’s just about finding the ways that make reading accessible in the little moments of the day that you can read 💛
Another video that reminds me it’s ok to slow down and not rush through my reading or feel bad because I’m not reading many books. I always love your videos!
I think we all need that reminder sometimes 💛 it’s about remembering that we’re reading because we love it, not because we have to! Thank you so much for watching ☺️💕
your videos just give off such a calm and relaxing mood, im so happy with each new upload from you ❤
Aww you are so kind, thank you 💛☺️
I do not know how, but with my second maternity I have read the most ever. Literary all the time - even when with the stroller outside 😊
That’s amazing! I love that 😍
I loved hearing about how your reading has changed lately, and thinking about how mine has changed since becoming a mom as well. My little guy is a year and a half now. Like you, I used to read about 50 or so books a year, but since he was born I've read a total of 26. I loved breastfeeding and e-reading together too! I felt like I was able to take care of my son and indulge in my hobbies simultaneously. Since going back to work though it's been harder to keep up my reading habits. He needs too much attention during the day for me to read on the weekends. I have the time to read at night, but I don't have the energy at all. When I do pick up a book, I lack focus and end up reading the same page over and over again until I give up. I've been finding it hard to discuss what I've read as well. It doesn't seem to stick in a way that I can discuss. I love that you're able to get more out of your reading since becoming a mother! The description of your current reading life reminds me of mine when I first started my channel years ago. Hopefully I'll figure out a way to balance reading, filming, taking care of my son, and work sometime soon! ❤
It is such a difficult balance! I so relate to the lack of concentration. Reading takes brain power that sometimes we just don’t have after all of the busyness of the day 😂 I am sure things will change again for me when she is a little older, and then they’ll change all over again after that. It’s hard to remember sometimes that these are just seasons, and that means going with the flow with our hobbies too. I am sure you will get that balance back once again! 💕
My girls are all grown up but I remember the days where I could read a chapeter or two before work. It was such a glorious moment to myself. Now being a housewife with no kids at home I enjoy reading any time but kind of miss that little me time thrill.
Those little quiet moments are so special when the day is full of noise and busyness! It’s funny how we value things differently when we don’t have as much time to do them! I do miss being able to read a whole book in a weekend now though, but I know that time will come again!
After 2 kids (3 and 1 y.o) the ereader has become my best friend. My hands are always busy and holding my kindle and specially reading with the dark mode on my kindle has made a difference. I miss my quiet reading time holding a physical book, but at the same time that will come again and I want to soak in all this precious moments with my little kids 🥰
They are so helpful! I always used to think I would never pick an e-book or audiobook over a physical one, but now they just feel so much more accessible 😂 As much as I am trying to have quiet time in the mornings, it probably happens 3 mornings in a week. I’ve definitely been learning to just be okay with that and take each day as it comes, finding the joy in those moments when they happen. You are so right, these years are so precious and we don’t want to miss them 💕
i read My Cousin Rachael, and love it.
Loved the video, and on a separate note, I spend most the video admiring your cosy cardigan collection, they look so snuggly!
Haha thank you! My wardrobe is mostly cosy jumpers and cardigans to be honest 😂
Hey 😊 The Lord goes with you everywhere you go, including on your driving lessons. Im stating the obvious here I know, but I mean it as a friendly reminder 💜
💛💛💛
Hi, Jen! It's such a nice and different video from you. I always enjoy to see nature in your clips, it's just stunning where you live. Don't worry about driving. I got my lisence and than didn't drive for15 years. I had to relearn when I had to go back to work after having kids. It needed time, but i got used to it. Anxiety will pass😘
Thank you Danijela ❤️ my content is naturally shifting a little lately to include daily life. I’m planning to make a video soon explaining that, and how my reading is changing over this current season of life. That makes me feel a lot better, thank you 🫶🏻
A lovely video, congrats on becoming a stay at home mum, it’s my dream! It can be hard to ‘keep house’ when we are shown all these immaculate spaces online, but you’re right that they never show off the ‘everything’ drawer/cupboard or those little corners where everything is tucked out of sight 😅
Thank you! It was never my plan, but is just how things have ended up working out for us at this moment in our lives. But I am so grateful and thankful for it 🤍 Haha, I thought I’d bring a bit of reality as I’ve recently been feeling so much pressure to have this perfectly tidy home, and it’s just so unrealistic 😂
Well Done getting back into driving that’s such a big and brave step and as you say the thought was more scary than doing it - you should be very proud of yourself - there’s no feeling like the freedom of being able to drive yourself around. I have now been driving for 30 years and it still feels like a thrill that I can do that for myself
@@Victoria-kl7su thank you! 💛 I never used to enjoy driving, but I actually enjoyed driving this week. It really is so empowering to have that freedom and know that you can get around if you need to.
I have missed your videos. This was so fun. Nice to "see" you again and I hope you find joy as a Sahm. I started 16 years ago. It's a ride
I just realized I have somehow missed a bunch of your videos... Now I have so more I get to watch
Thank you so much for watching 💕 I am very thankful for this time in my family’s life 🥰 and the ride that is to come 😂
Hi there! Thank you so much for the video...I also fell in love for ishiguro! Although my favorite is the unconsoled!...could you please advise me similar authors in your opinion?
No like to my analysis! Apparently the creator thought what I wrote has been generated by Chatgpt. I assure everyone, I wrote it myself.
Hi another lovely video. I plan to read some of the recommendations. Thanks
Thank you! I hope you enjoy whichever you decide to pick up!
That’s the best definition of a cozy mystery that I have ever heard. 😊
Thank you! Did write down some recommendations😊 Just last week I bought the first book in the Shady Hollow series. Haven't started it yet, really looking forward to doing so. I did not realize the whole collection was set in Autumn, yeah! Am collecting Agatha Christie bks. Ashamed today I have never read one! Pathetic, I know... Enjoy your channel. Am subscribed but don't always leave comment😋
I’m so glad you’ve found some recommendations ☺️ Well, at least now you’ve collected some of her books you’ll have lots to enjoy! 😂 Thank you so much for commenting and for watching my videos, it means so much!
Hey, where do you get mass market cosy mysteries from I find it really hard in the UK to find these copies
This one I bought from Amazon, but sometimes I see them in charity shops or secondhand online
The Timothy Keller book is so good!
I’m getting so much from it!
_The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle_ by Stuart Turton - an innovative blending together of mystery, thriller, and science fiction elements - has been praised for its ingenious, unique time loop structure, where the protagonist relives the same day in different bodies in order to solve a murder. The complex plot and stacked up paradoxes keep readers glued, offering novel ideas as he or she tries to piece together clues obtained from various characters and events. The gothic atmosphere and the uncanny setting enhance the tension, making the stakes feel high. However, the book’s complex storytelling and narrative structure can be overwhelming, with its dense, non-linear narrative leaving some readers confused and disoriented, and its repetitive nature may slow down the tempo for those who prefer fast-moving plots. While the characterisation is interesting, the sheer number of characters can make them feel underdeveloped, and the protagonist, Aiden, can seem emotionally distant. Despite these flaws, the novel is a compelling read for those who enjoy intricate, mind-blowing mysteries.
I like suspense and maybe a little creepiness. I am also a scaredy-cat and don't like straight horror. I love the Shady Hollow series. Wind in the Willows meets Agatha Christie was an excellent way to describe it!
I am exactly the same 😂 creepy but not scary books for me 🙈
Ooh the Enchanted Garden Mystery books look so cute! 🐕
The covers are so cute 😍
So many great books!! I’ve read most and love your reading tastes. I’ve added the Shady Hollow books to my tbr.
I hope you enjoy the Shady Hollow books!
Thank you so much for this brief but illuminating guide to Ishiguro's books! I love how you picked the highlights of every book and how you described the plot. I first read his debut A Pale View of Hills and didn't find it very gripping, but I think I'll love his Clara and the Sun after your introduction cuz I'm a big fan of sci-fi😊
the favorite book for me is the remains of the day. The political structure contained in this book and Kazuo Ishiguro's uniquememory but narrative is the most attractive point for me.
The Devil and the Dark Water is on my TBR too, but it’s pretty chunky so I’ve been putting it off. Hope you don’t mind me asking, how has having a baby affected your reading? I’m due in a few months and don’t know what to expect ☺️
I ended up flying through his other book, so I’m hoping it will be the same with this one and won’t feel too long! Reading with a baby is something I’m thinking of making a whole video on at some point, because the way I read has changed a lot as a result. I have had to become okay with reading only a couple of books a month sometimes, and I have been enjoying taking books slowly rather than powering through them. But because I’m reading slower, I have found myself gravitating to different kinds of books and getting much more from my reads? But now that Ivy is in a bedtime routine, it’s become much easier to read as I can schedule evening reading time to end the day! I think it’s something you kind of adjust to as you go and make the time for it when you can. I hope that makes sense 😂
@@readerinareverie I would love a full video on it if you do get the chance, that would be wonderful! I feel like it’s not talked about all that much. Yes I figured that to start with I wouldn’t be getting much done 😅 thank you so much for getting back to me ☺️
En el momento en que vi el bolso kislux , supe que tenía que tenerlo.
I've watched/listened to this video like 10 times. Lol. I don't know why. It's comfy and informative. And I'm looking forward to more Ishiguro when I finish my current books.
I was looking for a guide & nice little video and i am so happy I came across yours!! Loved your energy and descriptions looking forward for the new videos 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I’m so glad your video popped up in my feed. It’s so cozy!
Thank you so much 🥰
😂 I feel your pain about reading non-fiction books, honestly same.
Haha, maybe we just have too many interests 😂
I hope you enjoy the Anne Bronte! You might enjoy participating in the booktube event “Victober” this coming month, where a lot of booktubers will be reading works from the Victorian period.
Hi Hannah!
@@GinaStanyerBooks Hey, Gina! Good to see you!
Ooh yes maybe I should do that! 💛
Thank you for sharing - you are wonderful ❤️❤️ ps your party dress is DIVINE! 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Your special edition of Anne of green gables is gorgeous! I love your Holy Bible. 🥰
Thank you so much for this great video. Can I ask if you (or anyone here) remembers whether Buried Giant contains any magic, spells, curses or things like that? I don't mind the setting of Arthurian legend, or dragons, orcs, fairies, etc... I just don't like to read stories that include magic or spells.
From my memory, no it didn’t have magic or spells. Just the Arthurian legend style dragons and ogres and that sort of thing!
@@readerinareverie Thank you! Sorry for the strange question, but I'm excited to give Buried Giant a try 😊
