I am glad that you will be making more of these. We need more videos outside of the YA and current books. Themes like this are the reason why I talk about films from my childhood and seeing older films for the first time on my channel because people need to know there was all this stuff before 1990 LOL.
I stumbled upon your channel looking for some material to explain the general mood in England (tzeitgeist, maybe?) during the push to the south pole. everyone keeps saying "robert scott was a remnant of the victorian era, he had victorian values" etc. nobody cares to explain what these values are. thank you for this pleasent primer. I guess I'll be reading much more English literature thanks to your channel. keep up this good work from a Hebrew speaking bibliophile who's favorite book is "the book" (in the original language - translations do it a great disservice, I'm afraid)
What a great comment! I'm so happy to hear that this video series was helpful and I hope enjoy reading more English literature along the way too. In addition to my studies in English, I also have a degree in Classical studies and have had the pleasure of looking at The Book in the original Greek and have found such great depth that simply gets lost in translation. Hebrew is not among the languages I have studied unfortunately. Maybe one day!
Oh, this is going to be a fun series! I'm pretty sure I have once of the Longman volumes from when I took British lit in college. Volume B if I remember correctly. I think it's an earlier edition, because mine is gold.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're looking forward to them. I think my Longman is 2nd edition or something like that, but I'm really glad I kept my anthologies after college. I still use them and refer to them. So useful!
