Hi Tom. Love your training vids. Do you have a video on why many orthodox pros circle to their left, even though most beginner boxers are told not to, especially when facing another orthodox fighter's rear/power hand? Is it because by moving to the left, you can more easily see the rear hand coming, and therefore counter or more easily att

...more easily counter to the opponent's right side? Thanks for your time and help Tom

That's because it's very difficult for an orthodox boxer to circle to the right.

Whats the value of catching a punch, you're using your own energy to do that and simultaneously saving your opponents energy by giving them a target to land on, it cost them more energy to throw a punch and miss and have to stop that arm and retract it. Wouldnt it always be better to divert or slip instead of catch, to cost your opponent as much energy as possible while saving some of your own?

@scarshideout6489 🤔 But thats my point, you are still getting hit, just in the hand instead of the face...

That’s what makes the sport interesting, to each their own I guess.

When you catch a punch, you're not just blocking; you're breaking your opponent's rhythm and positioning yourself for a counter-strike. By staying in range during the block, you maintain the optimal distance for your own counter-attacks. This isn't as draining as you might assume. You will easily come to realize this in pad training. Whether to slip or catch depends on the situation and the opportunities the fighter sees.

The premise of your question is incorrect, and even if the premise of your question was correct, the answer to your question is no. The parry is not a catch. It's a redirection of the punch away from its intended target. That's why your premise is incorrect. While making the opponent completely miss the target via slips, pulls, rolls, etc, can be more taxing to the opponent's conditioning, utilizing those same techniques is far less energy efficient than a parry is. Parries are the least taxing defensive movement in your arsenal
