I made several cutting boards out of scraps, meaning each one was different size. Your adjustable guide is just what I need. Great presentation in the video.
I’m a 60 year old home builder/ carpenter. Many woodworking videos on here are diy at best. I’ve watched many of yours and learned a lot! I even used some plans. Thank you and keep up the good work! You’re my favorite woodworker on here.
Yeah. The "pull'm apart" for easy storage is a huge advantage of this design over other jigs. Very elegant. And I really appreciate the (now obvious) tips about measuring the distance between the bit center, the bit edge and the workpiece. So helpful! Thanks, Tamar.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been struggling with how to make a juice grove in the boards I make without spending a lot of money for a production jig. Your creativity benefits those of us who do not have problem solving skills in woodworking.
I love those teak project boards I have about 20 of them in my shop. I bought them awhile back when they were still $37. I have made kitchen sets, salt and pepper grinders, art pieces. They really are beautiful and work so well.
Hi Fordgr55 and Tamar. I bought some of these teak boards for some Xmas gifts. How good is the glue up? Have either of you found the boards coming apart with use?
Love your videos, Tamar. Thanks so much. I'm a 66 year old rather new woodworker and enjoy learning from you. I'd like to build this jig, and I have the same DeWalt router - if you would please share the dimensions of the pieces you cut for the fence version, that would save me a lot of trouble! Many thanks!
I've been wanting to put juice grooves in my cutting boards but I could never find the right jig. Until now. I like that it's adjustable to the size and shape of the boards. So simple.

I have been watching your channel and was trying to pick up the first project for starting woodworking. This seems like the simplest one to start. I only had a circular saw before, now got a trim router, got this exact boards from Lowe’s, and made cutting boards. After applying oil and conditioner, these came out amazing! After first round of putting mineral oil, I sanded with 320 to make it smooth again.
Great video as always. I love the way you always come up with a witty solution and I love how you always show how some solutions dont work as you thougth they would. I just finished building this. so perfect jig! my only change would be using 2 inch oak/poplar board for the knob attached boards..due to threaded inserts, plywood can fail over time
Thanks a lot for the video. I was on my way to buy a plunger for my router. I have the same router as in the video but with your tutorial it helped me a bunch. Making my first cutting board. Thanks again!

Great video. I really appreciate the multiple ways to approach adding the drain lines to cutting boards. U offered a ton of options to consider. Ur the best!
Agree. This is one of the best things about your videos, giving multiple approaches to the same problem. Of course, the solutions and the videos are top notch in themselves.
Just finished making the adjustable Jig, it works great, if I can make a suggestion for the one with the edge guide, use a template guide, you may have to cut it to size as they are about 1/2 inch long and the trim router bits are short, I have a Makita 701 and cut the bushing to just shy of 1/4 and use it with 1/4 hard board template attached with double sided tape, works great, just like having a router bit with a bearing
This is great....thank you!! I made the adjustable one yesterday. The only thing I'd say (this is my fault) I didnt use glue at first, and just hit the fence/spacer with brads, then came back with countersunk screws - that really torqued the fence and was making it wavy/not straight (I think because that piece is already compromised due to the 1/4" slot)...so that was bound to give me a crooked juice groove. So I removed the screws, pulled the brads out, then came back did it again with glue this time, and I clamped the fence against a straight edge while the glue dries. Undecided whether I'll add the screws or not after the glue cures...but everything is definitely nice and straight now
I have watched a lot of your video's and I must say I enjoy them very much. I have been a woodworker for over 50 years had my own business for many years. Your videos are enjoyable to watch and easy to understand not only for the novice but also for the journeyman. Not since the New Yankee Workshop have I enjoyed watching someone Keep up the good work well done
One thing for sure Tamar, you certainly know how to knock up a jig. I finally bought a trim router and used the 6 in 1 router jig the other day, great piece of kit thank you.
I tried this with my trim router edge guide and it was awful. Absolutely wrecked my piece I was testing on. Thank God it was a scrap. I wound up free handing very slowly on a slow speed setting with refrence marks on my base plate. Also using my finger as a slide guide. Not the smartest thing I know but worked very well and the boards came out beautifully. But I love that 4 piece take down jig.. definitely going to build something similar for my set up! Love your content!
The first juice groove I ever did, I did it with an edge guide and stop blocks. Wasn't easy, but worked. That adjustable jig is the bee's knees, I'll be building one of those soon. 😎
I always like your comparison technique videos. In addition to the great ideas (I don't have to experiment with myself ha ha.) you demonstrate, it also helps me generate related ideas for my projects. Awesome stuff. Happy weekend!
Very good video. I made my jig from ash. I made sure all of the boards I used were square and the same thickness. Jig works really well. I used homemade knobs.
Really nice explanation. Some time ago I created a cutting board but was a little bit afraid of destroying my work in the last step the groove around therefore I only made grooves on every side. Now I could do better. Thanks👍😊
Thank you so much Tamar, your awesome! I'm a hobbyist working out of my garage i looked up juice groove jig. its mostly something you make and not really buy, unless your willing to spend up to $200. How ever you made and explained it so simple, I'm definitely saving my money lol. ty
Great video. Here is what I like about you videos like this. You first provide a simple quick way to get the job done. I don’t have to spend a lot of time building a jig to make the first cutting board. A person can get one done, then you can move onto doing it a better way, the adjustable jig with the slots. To get the rounded corners, I like your solution of placing a board in the middle and routing around it. It simple and works and a more complex solution isn’t needed. Like you said about the Shaper Origin, sometimes simpler is better.
Great vid, as always. I have the same trim router and literally 15 minutes before this post I bought a completely circular base for it. Takes the worry out of possibly using the not-so-circular side of the base. Was $13 on Amazon, total no-brainer.
Excellent work, especially the tips on ways to make the grooves, which is (was) my biggest difficulty. But now it's not anymore, especially with the central model, the grooves are rounded, without that sharp corner. Now I'm going to make my planks this way. Obviously I will continue watching and learning, a hug from Brazil
...going to shop tomorrow am, to make jig. seems everyone wants cutting boards with juice grooves for christmas....exc, and very easily understood presentation. thanks....
Love the jigs for juice grooves. I love how you have to keep in experimenting all the different ways you can get the same results. This stands you apart from the rest of the channels. A great differentiator. Good for you. My tried routing a juice groove in one of my cutting boards but started off going CCW and then had a groove running into the center of the cutting board. So I immediately made arrows on my jig showing the correct CW direction. All of the pieces have arrows going CW. To correct the error I made a juice reservoir from my error. This involved making a jig that would fit inside the original jig. It uses the routered slot to anchor the inside pieces and makes making the reservoir easy. Shot me a link if you want to see the photos. Keep up the exceptional good work.
Tamar, I wanted to let you know that I made a (currently) nonadjustable version of your adjustable jig, and it worked beautifully for cutting a juice groove. I'm working on a cutting board that I have put a lot of time and effort into, so I was apprehensive to attempt a juice groove. I will modify my jig to be adjustable when I have time to do so. Thank you for posting entertaining and informative content. You are one of my favorite creators on the Tube.
Regarding method 4 using the edge guide- I think it would work better if you reversed this- put the router in a router table and manuever the board against the fence on top of the table. I liked your idea of the 2 large dowels in the edge guide. It might work even better if you could put wheels or rollers on the edge guide. However with all of this work just to get an acceptable result- most cutting boards would work better with one of your other methods. The only advantage to the edge guide is that you could more easily follow the edge of a cutting board with a complicated shape.
Tamar, this is such a great video. I’ve been following you for a while. I’m always appreciative of your videos. But this one is just great. You are a teacher at heart it seems!
Excellent video using various methods to make the gravy groove. It really helps to see you construct the jigs and then actually create a gravy groove with each method on an actual cutting board, awesome, thank you Tamar!
Your videos are so damn useful. Always something practical that I've been wanting to do myself. I like how you start with the one off approach before the more elaborate 'production' approach. It really shows mastery of deciding 'right tool for the job'.
I had done this project thank you so much. But I thought I would make a circular base on my router. That way I won't have to turn it. Saves a fair bit of time when I do 5 or 6 boards at the time.
I tagged you in the video and it will be released on New Years Eve. I also linked this video. My viewer would be most appreciative of what you do. Of course, my viewers are mostly likely already subbed to your channel because you are amazing! ;)
So good to share with us the successful and the unsuccessful parts of your efforts. The best part is the disassembly of the jig for storage. Well done Tamar
I laughed so HARD and literally out loud when you came back talking about “I couldn’t let it go”…. Relatable… That’s me AF 😂😂 specifically with projects in the workshop Loved this! More holiday projects please, Tamar 😂😊
As someone who's been a chef for a decade and a woodworker making cutting boards for a year, the best juice groove is NO juice groove. They make the board harder to clean, harder to scrape prepped food into a pan, and reduce usable surface area. Don't bother making a jig that only reduces the functionality of your artwork. That said, I appreciate your project videos.
I'm no chef or woodworker (despite making cabinets, tables, dressers and having worked food service for nearly a decade in my early years and making 99% of the food my family eats) but I have to agree that less is more. I never put a groove on my end grain cutting board I made decades ago it remains just as beautiful and functional. I make end grain cutting boards every Christmas and always do research as I start them.
I love having a juice groove for when cutting meat, and if you only put it on one side of the cutting board you can just flip it over if you don’t want to use it.
first of all, I found your video very helpful & well put together. I made 6 chopping blocks for xmas, gave very little thought to how to do the juice groove. I ended up building the adjustable one you showed, with a few small changes: --I slotted the fences after attaching the base. This makes the part a lot more rigid & easier to hold going through the router. --I added I small strip of plywood to the top edge of my fence to help pull it in to straight. You think your plywood was wavy? I pulled mine out of my barn, probably been there 20-30 years. -I joined all the edges. prob not required if you get good parallel rips off the table saw...I do not. I also just became proficient using the joiner, so ask excuse to practice & lock down that muscle memory.
Fantastic video Tamar! I’ve been working on an end grain cutting board that is going to a friend and I have been trying to figure out what would be the best way to make a juice groove or if I should just completely go without one partly due to the difficulty of it, or so I thought. You make it seem so easy but I guess in reality it’s not such a difficult or scary tasks when you have the right jig for it. I have just never made a juice groove on a cutting board. Thanks for sharing.
Another wonderful video! Thank you! However, you can use the Shaper Origin to design a square/rectangular (whatever dimensions you choose) right on board the device itself and using a corebox bit will give you nice rounded edges and corners. Takes seconds to create the size and placement is a breeze once you have scanned your work area. Thank you and can’t wait for future videos!
Yeah… I have done it before. It’s just not my preferred method. Too much measuring involved in making the design, even on board… the other jigs just feel simpler to me. But if it’s working for you, awesome. I like my origin for other stuff.

I know this is an old video but I am attempting my first cutting boards this year for Christmas gifts. This video is perfect. Thank you Tamara!
Hope they worked out!
@@3x3CustomTamar yes ma’am they did. Video is dropping next week. The juice groove was absolutely perfect
I tagged you in the video and it will be released on New Years Eve. I also linked this video. My viewer would be most appreciative of what you do. Of course, my viewers are mostly likely already subbed to your channel because you are amazing! ;)
This video deserves a million likes. Thank you for sharing your tip!
Your juice groove jig is a great solution. I liked the template one as well. It really does give a different look to the board.
Yeah. 2 different looks!
I love the jig! Nice work, and thank you for sharing your ideas
Just started my first cutting board as an exercise to get better with my hand plane. This was perfectly timed!
Haha nice
BRILLIANT! You are the Jig Gal! 🥰🥰 Love the shop floor!
So good to share with us the successful and the unsuccessful parts of your efforts. The best part is the disassembly of the jig for storage. Well done Tamar
Glad you like it!
Wow, greatly explained. I like your honesty.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and designs.
You rock girl. 👍👍👍🙂
Thank you so much!
You are the master of the jigs and fixtures! Loved your video, lots of great tips. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
I am so glad I found your channel! Love the content. I am just starting my juice grove journey! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
Glad it was helpful!
Super helpful video. Thanks for front loading the important, simple stuff!
I like the outer jig best! Thank you
I laughed so HARD and literally out loud when you came back talking about “I couldn’t let it go”…. Relatable… That’s me AF 😂😂 specifically with projects in the workshop
Loved this! More holiday projects please, Tamar 😂😊
😂😂😂 literally came back the next day and filmed that and reshot my whole ending…
Wow, your detailed and clear explanation is appreciated!!❤
As someone who's been a chef for a decade and a woodworker making cutting boards for a year, the best juice groove is NO juice groove. They make the board harder to clean, harder to scrape prepped food into a pan, and reduce usable surface area. Don't bother making a jig that only reduces the functionality of your artwork. That said, I appreciate your project videos.
I completely agree with your assessment here. My only rebuttal would be that aesthetically they look more professional with a groove
What about a three side groove and one side flat for scraping food off?
That’s why some of us have more than just one cutting board… with and without juice groove 🙄
You are the Woodworking Goddess!! Every video is clear, informative, and includes boo-boo,s. I love your videos and your new shop is terrific.
Thank you so much 🤗
first of all, I found your video very helpful & well put together. I made 6 chopping blocks for xmas, gave very little thought to how to do the juice groove. I ended up building the adjustable one you showed, with a few small changes:
--I slotted the fences after attaching the base.
So glad you found it helpful! Sounds like good changes!
Love your videos and ideas… A real help to a genuine novice..
Perfect timing! I've been puzzling over how to make a juice groove for a week now!
Nice! Good luck!
Practice on a scrap! I hope it works out for you. Good luck!
I really like the adjustable one. Thank you so much!
Glad you like it!
That's a great jig, Tamar~! I'll definitely be adding one of those to my jig collection. Thanks for sharing~!
Love the adjustable jig you made.
Tamar, you're looking good in your new shop! Thanks for sharing!
It’s coming together! Thanks!
Great plan and very much appreciate your showing us how to do this
Glad it was helpful!
Well done, very creative Jig. Thanks for sharing this video with us. 🙏🏼
Really clever jig. Thanks for putting this out.
