I'm indian (India) and i probably have poori channe every week, but this seems different and i really wan to try doubles. i just hope it tastes different. yep i am pretty much searching for doubles.
R3DF4NG I have trouble go to indian restaurants, I'm a trini but raised yankee, and all the Indian dishes here are so eerily similar and they use the same words for trini dishes sometimes (surprise surprise) but it's not the trini dish and yeah that cause me a heckin concern every time I go lol
The narrative is very informative - you can tell he does his research and knows how to deliver his exposition in a very engaging way of not only talking about the food but bringing better insight within the historical context and culture behind each dish. It's very personal, and it doesn't seem like he's only in it for the food but the sense of value it creates within the community and impact it has on spreading the diversity. Thank you Lucas :D
Yeah but um we don't use Spinach in "Spinach rolls". We use Dasheen Bush (some people call it Bhagi) and its called it Saheena. Not sure if you get Dasheen Bush in the US so maybe Spinach is a substitute but... Yeah
@@candiia.l.9365 I'm in San Diego, CA. and a lot of the Chinese/Vietnamese grocers have it. Called by their names for it, but yeah, we get it. Still no Doubles though!🤤
Bruh.... Trinidad Legit have people from EVERY walk of life... I've met More Americans and Canadians in Trinidad then I have in their respected countries lol. There's also ALOT of Guyanese, Venezuelans, Dominicans etc. Trinidad is the ONLY island you will find a White man, an Indian man, a Black man and a Chinese man All "liming" in the local bar having a good time.... 👍👍
You know you've found a good food host when you can practically imagine the flavors/textures the person is describing and instantly want to stuff whatever he's eating in your mouth. Good job, Lucas! Looking forward to watching the rest of this series :)
I love that Lucas seeks out all kinds of food not just hipster fusion restaurants. I also like that unlike other food doc channels, that Eater focuses on the food experience and not what chefs do in their downtime.
Lucas, you're great on camera and the videos are well done. You're calm/relaxed, cool and someone who sincerely enjoys food. This is definitely a nice break from some of the oddball personalities with other food related channels.
This is my neighborhood and this place is absolutely amazing. Nine times out of ten I buy quite a few because you can never eat just one. Geeta is a beautiful soul that loves what she does....you can taste it in every bite. ❤
its 12:51 am here in trinidad jus smoke some weed and watching this video now am feeling for some doubles lol nice video even though we are a very small country its good to know that we are known all over the world
As an East Indian, I LOVE DOUBLES! They remind me of Chole Bhatura in my culture. But different flavours in the channa and it’s a small handheld snack instead.. I would be 300 pounds if I ate these everyday, which I could easily do. 😊
Greetings!....this is deconstructed version of traditional chhole bhature dish which originates from northern part of India. Great to see you all relishing it in a different fashion. Much love from India!
it is unique because it is West Indian/Caribbean...also taste-tested and proven by billions of ppl that Doubles are miles ahead of Chole Bhature when the two are compared...
@@Trini_Hybrid the dish may have evolved over the time and wouldn't be the same that was sold by Emamool Deen. All credits to him to get this gem to the Caribbean. Much love from India again! Now go ahead and enjoy the dish! Cheers!
actually my first memory ever in life is having Doubles...in those days Trinidad kids actually walked themselves in small groups unsupervised to school from village to town center...and a doubles cost only 2 quarters (kid's price 😂) and if you had an odd quarter in your pocket, you simply ask for a half doubles aka "single" 😎
@@amandip.s.parmar bro do you know about the history of indentured labourers , if yes , then why you are comparing it with chole bhature , everyone knows that dhal Puri, bara, phulourie etc are the food from the eastern part of India and these people carried their dishes with them to carribbean .
i, and friends and neighbors i have introduced to it, eat here all the time now! brooklyn is the best for finding these kinds of spots, come back! thanks eater and lucas!
Hey, good morning, as Lucas has said, Trinidad and Tobago truly a mixed nation. I am proud to say so because I am a trinbagoian, the short abbreviation for the two nations combine. We embrace anyone because of our mixed heritage. You will see an African but check his family out his mother or father, can be an East Indian. Our food background is huge. There will be conflicts but our people are truly spicy and loving. We also has the most churches in the world, out country takes God Almighty seriously, there are all different religious beliefs but each respects each others beliefs. Have great day everyone.
In Trinidad, doubles used to be traditionally found only for breakfast on weekends, then it extended to all days and now in 2018, you can get doubles on mornings, evenings into night and at some famous spots most of the day. It can be found all over the country, set up on the road side (street food) and food trucks where you get it hot on the spot (cooking while serving). Within recent years in a few locations you can get gourmet doubles - where you can get chicken or shrimp etc. added to your doubles. It's amazing! Usually you can get aloe pie (potato pie) wherever you get doubles and some places - more so the food trucks and selected stalls you can get other local delicacies like saheena, kachourie, polourie, baigani etc.....
Short and sweet and to the point ! Truly hangover food ! We even have chicken doubles here ! You should see Mark Weins eat spicy doubles ! Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.
Definitely doable, there are plenty of cheap eats in NYC that are very good. Check out our Heatmaps for some suggestions: ny.eater.com/maps/cheap-eats-nyc-mapped
So proud of Trinidad and Lucas you are the bomb btw the quadruple is called a triple. When you did dining on a dime this is what we eat as dining on a dime. And we eat it with our hands well most of us. But glad you enjoyed. Come to Trinidad soon and let's go eat
Wow I've actually been to this exact shop, one of my Trini friends introduced me to it. I used to live about 3 blocks away, I like their roti and channa. And yes people actually do form long lines at this place sometimes lol
