This is one of the most important songs in my life. 2013, I was getting myself together recovering from 10 years of depression and drug use. I found a purpose, a new path and started a new life. Now, ten years later, it's all fallen apart. I listened to this again today and remembered that "broken people can get better if they really want to". God, I want to.
I know right? It's thanks to my dad I know about this guy and I'm glad he showed me. The music he makes just makes everything in my head click. Reply if you know the feeling.
I got home from work tonight and popped on the radio in this song came on and it caught my attention because I'm a singer-songwriter musician for over 30 years in Canada and I was like wow this is a great catchy tune so I looked him up on UA-cam and net,,,of course this is what I do when you hear something really like and wow I was truly Blown Away by The Poetry and Genius of this songs lyrics, melody, so true to life. Especially myself who suffered with brutal addictions for decades being lead singer of band, it's still daily battle and I know so many who have suffered and who have died as I'm sure you do,,, so Props to Frank! for putting it into words and also you know losing my love as well,,,that's part of the song too! like he puts it all in there there's just so much I'm just scratching the surface here cuz I don't have time but it's really an amazing catchy tune. One you just want to crank up on your headphones and jump and dance around and get it all out GET IT ALL OUT with tears if need be. There is nothing wrong with a man crying in fact it's healthy the ones that don't hold it all in and extremely bitter and messed up it got to let it out once in awhile it's completely normal and healthy and good to do there's a lot of Science and experts that back this up. This isn't the 1950s anymore where men held it all in and just beat their wives. They ended up having miserable lives. Give er' a good ol' cry every now and again. It's healthy. You'll be healthier and happier! Well proven. So after a little man balling😭leting out the pain,,,cool tune like this then just relax and have a nice nap , SIESTA for my Spanish folks out there😅 ,,,,,,,in total and complete peace. ✌️ out.
Izzy Beth your breaking my heart. I was a lead singer for decades, been on top of the world, so many people patting me on the back to lowest of lows. As someone who's suffered brutal addictions for decades but never gave up even in the lowest depressing times I somehow made it out by the grace of God and a lot of praying for help from above. ( listen to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd) and getting help. Life's not easy it's brutal but it can also be beautiful and amazing and peaceful once you're out of that s*** hole state. Your not alone. Your life is of 'exceptional' value and worth! So don't give up. Please. Never met you but I love you. JHVH God loves you. I feel your pain I'm pretty sure I know your pain cuz I've been close to ending it all and if I didn't end it personally,, the drugs mixed with alcohol, or the drug addicts, physcos/ dealers nearly nearly did. Not sure what you're on or what you're doing but get yourself some help and talk to a mature person who you trust. If you're a female which I think you are then talk to a mature trustworthy female. If drugs like opiods the kill thousands every day get immediate DETOX OR YOU WILL DIE. FACT. Not all but some men can take advantage of a girl in a vulnerable position and make things a million times worse by their selfish disgusting abhorrent greedy actions. Please be safe Izzy B. I’m 21. I was getting my hair cut maybe 5 months ago, and my barber mentioned the song “Get better” and told me I should listen to it. I added that song on Spotify and listened to it, but it was t until last week I visited the creator of that song’s page, Frank Turner. I clicked on Recovery and about 20 seconds into the song I Remembered it. From the back of my memory was sitting this song, for maybe about 10 years. I remember this song so vividly, to the point I don’t understand how I forgot about. I used to love this song, when I was 12, and I’m 21 now. This song means more to me than it did back then, at least now I can understand the lyrics and lap them over my own problems. Kerbal space program_newz he’s been around a long time and is far far underrated as far as I’m concerned , tho it must be said his latest two albums aren’t his best , but good enough .....I love this guys songs ✌️✌️✌️✌️
I heard this on the local AAA radio station earlier. My finger hovered on the button for the first few seconds...but when the chorus hit my jaw dropped. Brilliant! What a crisp, refreshing energy Frank Turner has. With all the junk on the radio today and my advancing age (almost 31), it's hard to get that same rush from new rock that I used to get, but the bounce of this tune is unavoidable. Why have I never heard of this guy before?

The first time I heard this song was on the NPR Tiny Desk video published 10 years ago. Last week I heard it on the Swiss radio station while I was driving on a motorway. I was like... OMG, this is Frank Turner from youtube! Awesome!
im just here to tell everyone, that Frank is my role model (music wise) i live in El Salvador, a country with no music industry, no record labels, and im out there just playing my music, because thats the life i want, that i have chosen, Frank is my living proof that doing what you want with beliefs and standing to your ideals, and not giving shit what everyone thinks, pays a reward. Hard work, touring for years in small clubs and houses. Thanks to you Frank, I STILL BELIEVE i can do this.

"Broken people can get better if they really want to..." I see this song in the context of my struggles with bipolar and anxiety disorder. I've lost some "friends" over it, but luckily kept many who help me when things are tough. It's really hard to find the right combination of drugs and therapy to get better, but the struggle is worth it when I feel like a whole person again.
I remember the first time I ever heard this song. I live in America and when they played this on the radio at like 8 AM on a saturday in april, it was the first I'd ever heard of Frank Turner. Just saw him in Charlotte last friday. I don't know what Courtney Rishere is smoking, it was the best concert i'd ever been to. I just wish i'd known about him earlier, he's a damn good musician
Songs don't usually properly mean a lot to me. Many make me feel incredibly emotional, whether that be happy or sad. But this one really does remind me of everything good about my life, which has been hard to remember recently. It always brings back good memories. Thanks Frank. I really hope to be able to see you live one day, it would be incredible.
I think few musicians can be truly described as "Wordsmiths", but this man is one of them. An epic tune; I swear I'm already addicited to it (and I only heard it for the first time yesterday!)
Hello dear fan Oh!...Yes it's very reasonable from you it's really not easy to believe that a star like me can come and waste his time chatting with his fans on the net!...I'm the one who asked my manager to make me an account so that I can chat with my fans on the net! .......I only take my free time to talk to you I'm still not connected on this channel I hope you understand me
Not just a "break-up song," I think. The lyrics really focus on the fact that his ("his"?) addiction caused the break-up and the loss of his relationships. It's him recognizing this aspect of himself & asking for help.
My favorite show of Bonnaroo 2013...well right behind Sir Paul, and that says it all about Frank's show in a tent in the middle of a very humid hot day. The song Photosynthesis was amazing as well...
As usual, a Brit writes incredibly literate lyrics and a GREAT song. Speaking from the US, thank god for an almost thousand year history of great British songwriting from madrigals to the present day. From Thomas Morley on, the world is a better place because of a great tradition of English composers and songs.

I met an ex in the county jail booking. we are still friends. I also was engaged to someone I met in a behavior health unit in a hospital- I meet people in some wierd places.
I nearly killed myself last year and I somehow didn't, I found this song and it was amazing to relate to, frank turner great artist you helped get me back on my feet. Update: 8 years later and I have a PhD, just because life was bad at some point in time doesn't mean it won't ever be better, stay strong and lookup.
Frank's music has helped me so much for the past few years with my emotional issues and even influenced me to produce my own music (even though it's not really much like his in terms of style). Now that I've started uploading my songs onto my channel, I can only thank him for helping me out all this time.
First time I heard this I was sat in my kitchen at 7am listening to the radio after just coming home from a strange flat in East London and I'd been up for days with strangers and nothing had ever sounded so relevant.
Recently I started pulling myself out of a 15-year depression where I attempted suicide six times, one of which when I was six years old. I've alienated most of the people that ever cared about me as a result, but this song is helping remind me that I'm never completely alone and that once I'm better there's a chance people will love me again.
I KID YOU NOT I SEARCHED FOR THIS SONG FOR 7 YEARS AND HAD TO CHARGE MY MOMS OLD IPHONE 4 JUST TO FIND IT, IVE MADE SKETCHES OF THW ALBUM COVER, PUT IT INTO AI AND IT DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHAT IT WAS. I finally found it as it’s still as good as it used to be
"I don't know what Courtney Rishere is smoking, it was the best concert i'd ever been to." Same here. I saw him last week for the first time and it took days to recover from how mind-blowing it was.
I used to listen to this song after I had my breakup with a three year long relationship. I can honestly say without this song I wouldn't have gotten over her. :P
Its worse when you cant get over a 1 week fling. Its been 2 years and im not well. I dont normally obsess with people, im usually good with these kinds of things but for some reason all ive been thinkin about every day for the last 2 years is her. Im not even attracted to her anymore, i just have this need to know what shes doing. The Portuguese have a word for this: saudade.
I've known about Frank for a few years and even saw him open for Flogging Molly. It's awesome he is finally getting recognized on the radio for the talented musician he is
I found him fresh out of my like 7th stint and drug rehab and it helped me through my first 30 days clean, I relapsed and ran for the past 2years and now I’m clean and back to listening to him.
picked up guitar/singing a little under two months ago and uploaded my first cover the other day. woke up to a comment saying i sound like an american version of this guy. first time hearing him and im feeling real confident right now.
back and better than ever. had the pleasure of meeting his guy at Umass Lowell on St. Patties day, nobody knew who the guy was, but after he got off the stage, they would've been happy going home and not seeing the Dropkick Murphys. Hes that good live.
Lyrics Blacking in and out in a strange flat in east London Somebody I don't really know just gave me something to help Set me down and stop me always thinking about you And you know your life is heading in a questionable Direction when you're off in days with strangers And you can't remember anything except way you sound When you told me you didn't know what I should do It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way to make it right And so I wake up in the morning just like every other day And just like every boring blues song I get swallowed by the pain, And so I fumble for your figure in the darkness just to make it go away But you're not lying there any longer and I know That it's my fault so I been pounding on the floor And I've been crawling up the walls and I've been divvying my darkness And Serotonin boosters, cider and some kind of smelling salts It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way to make it right So on the first night we met you said well darling let's make a deal, If anybody ever asks us well let's say that we met in jail And that's the story that I'm sticking to like A southern face that comforts but today I need to hear Some truth if I'm ever getting through this Yea you once sent me a letter that said if I was lost at sea Close my eyes and catch a time idea and only think of me Well darling now I'm sinking I'm as lost as Lost can be and I'm hoping you can drag me Off and down and out to my recovery If you could just give me a sign and just a subtle little glimmer, A suggestion that you'd have me if I could only make me better Then I'd stand a little stronger as I walk a little taller all the time 'Cause I know that you are cynical but I think I can convince you yea 'cause broken people Can get better if they really want to Or at least that's what I have to tell myself if I'm hoping to survive It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to whats right Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, one day this will all be over
I love seeing stuff like this. Any celebrity going through this would be all over the tabloids. Whereas there is thousands of people going through the same shit, and any personal battle won should be celebrated just as much. Well done, hope you keep it up!

I really hope to be able to see you live one day, it would be incredible.
At some point, I'm pretty sure this song saved my life.
me too :)
and me !
And me. Still saving me.
Same
Such an underated talent
saw him yesterday in London, Ontario greatest concert ever
I think few musicians can be truly described as "Wordsmiths", but this man is one of them.
An epic tune; I swear I'm already addicited to it (and I only heard it for the first time yesterday!)
wicked how hard work and dedication can get someone so far,i still rember back in '11 when i read about frank in kerrang mag!
Hello dear fan Oh!...Yes it's very reasonable from you it's really not easy to believe that a star like me can come and waste his time chatting with his fans on the net!...I'm the one who asked my manager to make me an account so that I can chat with my fans on the net! .......I only take my free time to talk to you I'm still not connected on this channel I hope you understand me
Everything about this song is absolutely perfect! There is no doubt that this is a hit!
He is amazing!!!!

Him and his band were amazing at Reading
Craig Lane they were! I was there too.
Frank Turner had a song for every mood or situation I could ever be in. Love him.
"If anyone ever asks us let's just tell them we met in jail"
I have no idea what this song is about but that line always makes me laugh.
It's about recovering from an intense breakup going through the aches and pains then finding yourself again.
@@zbart31 I have no memory of making this comment, but thank you for responding to it so I can listen to this song again.
I met an ex in the county jail booking. we are still friends. I also was engaged to someone I met in a behavior health unit in a hospital- I meet people in some wierd places.
I saw Frank Turner yesterday and when he played this I cried, amazing song thank you so so much for your music
I am glad to hear you are back on your throne, those squirrels can get quite outlandish without a King on the scene.
I failed at my attempt to do so last year, but I am slowly recovering now and I completely agree.
Stay safe mate, when you hit rock bottom the only way is up.
Thanks
wait what I'm sorry to hear that
Frank's music has helped me so much for the past few years with my emotional issues and even influenced me to produce my own music (even though it's not really much like his in terms of style). Now that I've started uploading my songs onto my channel, I can only thank him for helping me out all this time.
One of the best songs in Watch Dogs: Legion. UK music rule!!!
I bet you didn't think you'd get a reply to this 9 years later but hopefully you're doing alright!
I stumbled upon this act during Osheaga and I haven't been able to stop listening to them.
Saved me 6 years ago. Was low. Thanks Frank.
I KID YOU NOT I SEARCHED FOR THIS SONG FOR 7 YEARS AND HAD TO CHARGE MY MOMS OLD IPHONE 4 JUST TO FIND IT, IVE MADE SKETCHES OF THW ALBUM COVER, PUT IT INTO AI AND IT DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHAT IT WAS. I finally found it as it’s still as good as it used to be
I've never had an addiction problem. But if I did, this song would probably get me through it.
this song makes me happy!
Best song in Legion
I freaking am in love with this song..
"I don't know what Courtney Rishere is smoking, it was the best concert i'd ever been to."
Same here. I saw him last week for the first time and it took days to recover from how mind-blowing it was.
I.never heard of Frank Turner until recovery which is such a awesome song
A long road but worth the trip
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!
My best friend use to blast this song from her car when we went on road trips or to find a Sunday carvery.
I miss you terribly :'(
I had heard of Frank Turner before but never really paid attention to his music ... this is a great song and the new album is on my "must buy" list.
I used to listen to this song after I had my breakup with a three year long relationship. I can honestly say without this song I wouldn't have gotten over her. :P
Couldn't agree more! I'm in the exact same position myself, shows music can fix all Haha!
Can't stop listening to this
One of the few redeeming features of Watch Dogs Legion was that it included this song on the radio.
I'm really loving this song.
This is the only song that I have ever heard by him.... My brother listens to this song all the time. Any good songs I should check out?
I Still Believe, Get Better, Glorious You, Time Machine, If Ever I Stray, The Road, Try This at Home, I am Dissapeared, Peggy Sang The Blues
I've known about Frank for a few years and even saw him open for Flogging Molly. It's awesome he is finally getting recognized on the radio for the talented musician he is
This song is directly out of the 90's and I love it.
I found him fresh out of my like 7th stint and drug rehab and it helped me through my first 30 days clean, I relapsed and ran for the past 2years and now I’m clean and back to listening to him.
Heard this for the first time about 5 minutes ago. My life may have changed.
And has it?
Such a brilliant, brilliant song
Frank turner asked me for a cigarette in Leeds when I was 14 #claimtofame
hahahahaah
And you gave him the cigar?
Frank Turner sold me his own CD at a merch table in 2010 in Miami. :)
Take this Trophy!
eve O'connell that's actually pretty cool
This is a great song. Just that simple.
picked up guitar/singing a little under two months ago and uploaded my first cover the other day. woke up to a comment saying i sound like an american version of this guy. first time hearing him and im feeling real confident right now.
back and better than ever. had the pleasure of meeting his guy at Umass Lowell on St. Patties day, nobody knew who the guy was, but after he got off the stage, they would've been happy going home and not seeing the Dropkick Murphys. Hes that good live.
Heard this great song while playing Watchdogs: Legion, glad I found this song. :)
I don’t know how I found your music, but I’m loving it! It hits me in my soul.❤❤❤❤❤
It's amazing how everyone can relate to this song in a different way...
An amazing show - back to basics, a guitar and cracking vocals! Thank you Frank and Jess!
Watch Dogs Legion brought me here and Im loving it.

One of the best songs ever.
Wow, I love that song
Thanks smarty for showing this
Frank Turner is an amazing singer/songwriter
Lyrics
Blacking in and out in a strange flat in east London
Somebody I don't really know just gave me something to help
Set me down and stop me always thinking about you
And you know your life is heading in a questionable
Direction when you're off in days with strangers
And you can't remember anything except way you sound
When you told me you didn't know what I should do
It's a long road out to recovery from here,
A long way back to the light
A long road out to recovery from here,
A long way to make it right
And so I wake up in the morning just like every other day
And just like every boring blues song I get swallowed by the pain,
And so I fumble for your figure in the darkness just to make it go away
But you're not lying there any longer and I know
That it's my fault so I been pounding on the floor
And I've been crawling up the walls and I've been divvying my darkness
And Serotonin boosters, cider and some kind of smelling salts
It's a long road out to recovery from here,
A long way back to the light
A long road out to recovery from here,
A long way to make it right
So on the first night we met you said well darling let's make a deal,
If anybody ever asks us well let's say that we met in jail
And that's the story that I'm sticking to like
A southern face that comforts but today I need to hear
Some truth if I'm ever getting through this
Yea you once sent me a letter that said if I was lost at sea
Close my eyes and catch a time idea and only think of me
Well darling now I'm sinking I'm as lost as
Lost can be and I'm hoping you can drag me
Off and down and out to my recovery
If you could just give me a sign and just a subtle little glimmer,
A suggestion that you'd have me if I could only make me better
Then I'd stand a little stronger as I walk a little taller all the time
'Cause I know that you are cynical but I think
I can convince you yea 'cause broken people
Can get better if they really want to
Or at least that's what I have to tell myself if I'm hoping to survive
It's a long road out to recovery from here,
A long way back to the light
A long road out to recovery from here,
A long way back to whats right
Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover,
Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover,
Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover,
Darling, sweet lover, one day this will all be over
Were your neighbours playing this and you listened through the wall with a glass and wrote down what you thought you could hear?
I love seeing stuff like this. Any celebrity going through this would be all over the tabloids. Whereas there is thousands of people going through the same shit, and any personal battle won should be celebrated just as much. Well done, hope you keep it up!
I listen to the Tape deck heart Cd when on the road to Mable lake (kinda a 10 hour drive)
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!
that split screen filming technique was first used for the Blink-182 "always" video
Not technically true, a similar technique was used in the video for 'The Good Life' by weezer
joe arnold and all of these people Frank Turner and the sleeping souls Blink 182 and Weezer are all amazing bands
AdventurerIX that's one thing I can agree with :)
Heard this on the radio a few hours ago, and i'm so glad that I did!

To many people don't understand good music
