Southern gentleman. This guy knows how to fish. Anyone who says it's boring has no idea why guys who've fished for everything their entire lives end up chasing crappie as they get older.
Got a couple of your 16 foot crappie trolling rods for Christmas. These are some very well made rods and I really like them. Thanks, and great videos by the way!
Thank you Ed for your video. I enjoyed it and appreciate your advice. I enjoy spending time on the water on my boat fishing. I don't know why people have to be so nasty sometimes. Fish on my friend. From South Central Texas. Rick sends..
Its an interesting technique. I was fishing today and asked a friend why does anyone need a 16 foot crappie rod, and you answered that question. We fish brush piles mostly so the length is of no significance to us but I could see using your set up if fishing alone some times of the year. Thanks!
Depends though, I fish some shallower lakes where a lot of the time they are suspended around 8-12 feet on structure. I find that sometimes vertical jigging with my preferred 10 footers is a little too close and they seem to be more skittish. I added a trolling motor nut a couple of years ago and it seemed to help maybe a little bit...maybe... but there are times where it seems even one or two feet extra reach makes a difference. Especially, if there is a little bit of wind and my motor has to work harder to stay on spot and they get that little woosh of water coming their way from time to time.
Great video Ed, you're going to turn me into a Crappie fisherman. I just found the site to your rods. I live in Cornelius so I'll get with you and hopefully come over and meet you as well. Marty
Ed I love the video, very helpful tips to try out next fishing trip!!! Are your rods as sensitive as the b&m rods? I have four ten footers and four twelve footers for crappie. I would like to try one of your fourteen or sixteen footers? Let me know?
Anybody hating on him for fishing with more than 1 rod have obviously never heard of striper, mahi mahi, tuna, mackerel, marlin, walleye ... the list goes on and on.
I have one of them Caddis float tube that I had stored away for centuries, I'm finally thinking of taking it out hence I found a bridge nearby that occupy Crappies; you can't really get hits from the bank, they're more towards the deep center. This would be a first on the tube, I was thinking if this method would work on the tube - but I figure my legs would be down the water which may repeal nearby crappies. Anyone crappie fish w/ a float tube and have any techniques they're willing to share? ;] The depth 'seems' fairly deep if anyone wants to get technical, I haven't confirmed it myself.
mrdr89, it is practical and somewhat affordable, His poles are reasonable, You dont need much of a reel if any, and if You have some cordination You can run the troller and fish at the same time, I have less than $75 in a 14ft pole and close out spinning reel, then $100 for fancy 4 pole T bar, and bought a two seat pedasil I think was $100 also, My wife and/or buddys sit side by side and run 4 poles (Ohio) law with double minnow rigs and kill um, check out Ed's prices then do some math You will be surprised
I have had a school of white bass hit every hook I have had in the water all at the same time.It might have taken me 30 minutes to sort that out.You have to cut everything loose and retie it all.Today I will not use more than 3 or 4 rods. Schools of white bass are not your friend if you are trolling with multiple jig poles.A large catfish can cause problems also.
I'm sure this setup works well but it isn't practical for someone who is just getting into fishing. You probably have well into $1000 with just the fishfinder and trolling motor, add in all those poles/reels and I bet you are closer to $2000. Also, how do you fish with other people? Would you have the same setup in the back of the boat as well?
+mrdr89 My dad and I used to spider fish a lot when I was younger. 1-2 poles a piece in a john boat. He'd sit in the front seat to run the trolling motor, and let his poles hang off the left side and I'd sit in the back with my poles off the right side. It wasn't a big boat and as long as we payed attention, no one got a hook stuck in them. lol Rod holders aren't mandatory and fancy equipment can make things easier but keep in mind that if it came down to it you can catch fish with a hand line and worms you found near by if you had to. The fish don't care about fancy equipment.
Different states have different regulations. Colorado has a one rod limit unless you buy a special second rod stamp. Tennessee, on the other hand, has no limit on how many rods you can use.
I have spider fish for 45 yrs with 6ft rod and I hve cough fish comeing and going. right up under my bout. just as fast as I could pull them in so I done know why ya'll have to use them pains In the but, long rods
If my state allows 10 rods...I'm using 10 rods...I can only use 2 ..One crew of guys with 8 rods a piece could effectively wipe out a pond on a weekend.
+bobby harvill There are many states that allow more than 1 or 2 rods. also note that the limit can vary per type of fishing Salt/Fresh/ Rods per boat... etc. Pennsylvanie is 3 Kentucky is open ended. check em out.
Wow, all those rods, plus a depth finder, just to catch a fish. That's the silliest, most unsporting, most asinine thing I've seen since UA-cam was invented. It wouldn't even be legal in my state. If you need all those rods, and if you need a depth finer, to catch crappie, you are not an angler, you just an untalented pretender. You can't begin to know how silly you look sitting behind all those rods. Of, plus a trolling motor. I can imagine how people caught so many thousands of fish before fancy rods, depth finders, autp pilot trolling motors, and pure laziness were invented. What a joke.
I do agree I am watching because I'm only 12 and learning how to fish with just a pole Xd and he so advanced and he only caught 4 in the video and also people fish so they can sell them and make money that why people fish too
This is how we all do it down here in the south. Hell, there are crappie guides and their method is spider rigging. I just got into it. It has re-lit the fire in my fishing heart. This guy makes it look easy, but its constantly re-baiting, re-tying your lines, taking fish off.
Ed, I’m new to sac a lait fishing, but I learned more from you in 8 minutes than all the other videos put together.
Thanks for sharing.
Southern gentleman. This guy knows how to fish. Anyone who says it's boring has no idea why guys who've fished for everything their entire lives end up chasing crappie as they get older.
+Moonpie Spotlight True story, you end up chasing pan-fishes. ;]
That is true
Very helpful detail on everything. Not secretive like a lot of fishermen. Thank you & keep em coming
I bet when it comes to exact locations hes secretive lol. Super nice guy tho.
Got a couple of your 16 foot crappie trolling rods for Christmas. These are some very well made rods and I really like them. Thanks, and great videos by the way!
Why are you guys complaining ? More rods = higher % of catching a fish . Good video !

Hey Ed I came to your shop today thanks for your help

Marty
This man has it down to a SCIENCE !!! Thanks for sharing.
What kind of jigs w spinners on the hooks do u use
In Indiana 1 man can only have 3 poles legally. Everyone should check their own state's laws before trying this.
Here in GA we can fish with as many as you want.
@@maryclouser3748 WA 2 rod if you pay 14 bucks more or else its 1 rod
He isn't holding the rods, so how does he " feel" the bite?
To the ones saying this doesnt work well, I live in the midwest and this works all the time if you keep a troller motor roaming and keep them rods out
does it matter going with or against the current?
Great video!! Very informative! New to crappie fishing. Ready to catch some beauties!!
How much for one of your 14 footers.
That looks fun but I just like a slip cork, split shot, and a minnow.....nice vid
that's me and I drag them see structure before I cross it and can adjust according my buddy pushes baits and I pull em always out fish him
looks fun, id like to try it once. we are limited up north, 2 rods open water, but 4 on hard water. good job ed, nice video
what to use in winter if u cant get live minnows
Ed I love the video, very helpful tips to try out next fishing trip!!! Are your rods as sensitive as the b&m rods? I have four ten footers and four twelve footers for crappie. I would like to try one of your fourteen or sixteen footers? Let me know?
Here in Texas some lakes have special regulations but for the most part you can fish as many rods as you want
thanks Mr.Duke I am in wilson nc and I am going to get to your store I love crappie fishing more than bass but I am not as good at it
Hi brother Ed, can u tell me about ur rod holders on ur boat?
Great video and info Ed! See you soon
Anybody hating on him for fishing with more than 1 rod have obviously never heard of striper, mahi mahi, tuna, mackerel, marlin, walleye ... the list goes on and on.
Please check local laws. If not illegal I wish it was.
This might be a good technique but it doesn't look like a lot of fun. Use a good ultra light rod and fight the fish a bit.
My kind of fishing- fed the family many a day going out and getting 100-200 crappie- eat for a month, if you don't like that starve :)
Those rods are fantastic!
Great vid. Norwood here. Lake Tillery.
could u do a video on setting up your fish finder in manual
Great video Ed🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Still selling rods?
Ed Duke is still selling fishing rods. Check them out at southerncrappierods.com

Or you could just buy a cast net for $50.
I own rustic outdoors in portageville mo I am interested in carrying some of your crappie rods
Good vid, thanks Ed.
i fish for crappie with a 3 foot rod :P
Hate fishing where there a bunch of Spider riggers. They will troll right up to your buoy and around your boat. Might as well just drag a net.
Yeah. All fun and games..... until a 4 lb hybrid it's one of those minnows. I bet after that you have to pack up and go home
I have had a school of white bass hit every hook I have had in the water all at the same time.It might have taken me 30 minutes to sort that out.You have to cut everything loose and retie it all.Today I will not use more than 3 or 4 rods.

No most states do not have a 2-3 rod limit.....where are you fishing..
shimano ix reels they are my favorite

Well in the state of Iowa and South Dakota u can only use 2 rods at a time
And now u can buy a extra rod for a tot oak of 3
Those states are stupid!!
WhatFloatsUrGoat
I was unaware a single fisherman could fish with 8 rods at once. I thought it was only 2...?
Different states have different regulations. Colorado has a one rod limit unless you buy a special second rod stamp. Tennessee, on the other hand, has no limit on how many rods you can use.
Opry99er Living in CO, my mouth dropped seeing that many poles in the water.
When trolling do u stay away from banks
Great vid
I need some 12foot and 14foot rods please help
I like to have the set up on my boat,,,
Very helpful. Thanks
CRAP pie? fuck sticks I swear
Depends on what state ya live in and or where your gonna be fishing. Sum lakes allow it sum wont
This kind of fishing isn’t for city tree hugging folks.
Nice fish
I like to tip it with a "minna"
I fish this way year round
or you can get a regular rod and tie up on a tree see if there's any fish if there is get a minnow drop it down catch fish I prefer using minnows
I have spider fish for 45 yrs with 6ft rod and I hve cough fish comeing and going. right up under my bout. just as fast as I could pull them in so I done know why ya'll have to use them pains In the but, long rods
Pretty fancy set up but he only caught just a few small crappies.
So
I stay AWAY from Crappy things, I do like to fish for CRAPPIE
If my state allows 10 rods...I'm using 10 rods...I can only use 2 ..One crew of guys with 8 rods a piece could effectively wipe out a pond on a weekend.
I can understand spider rigging for crappie if your going to keep them, but catch and release? For them days you really just want a fish i guess lol.
We keep the slabs!
its full not fool DUH
Not it is both full proof means something entirely different than fool proof.
Fix me up shoooooooooo
Crop-pee.
365 days of looking at poopy water………hahahah can't stop watching this junk
should have to have a commercial fishing license to fish this way....smh
Where the hell is it legal to use 8 rods lol this guy should be turned in and should loose his license
+TaZE AsTrOs It's legal lots of places.
He is doing this well within the fishing regulations of his state. Spider rigging is a very common and legal thing in most states
What difference does the amount of rods make? A limit is a limit! Use your brain!
+bobby harvill There are many states that allow more than 1 or 2 rods. also note that the limit can vary per type of fishing Salt/Fresh/ Rods per boat... etc. Pennsylvanie is 3 Kentucky is open ended. check em out.
I understand that. What I'm saying is what difference does it make how you get a limit?

sounds like a bunch of cry babies

wtf is this guy doing…….8 rods for CRAP fish hahahah LMFAO get a fly rod bro………..
dumbass you are
Obvious troll, but I have fly rods and I also spider rig. Don't hate what you don't understand.
