Underrated blues player first heard him when I saw the theif with James Caan " the bar scene. He is the heart and soul.So thank you mighty Joe for giving me this song on you tube to listen to when I'm down but not out.
I jammed (on blues harp) with Mighty Joe Young in 1970 or 1971 at the Chessmate in Detroit. He made me sing too. His playing was great, but he wasn't terribly comfortable fronting his own band. But when i saw him at the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival backing up Lucille Span, he absolutely shined. Some musicians just want to serve the music, without standing in the spotlight.
Mighty Joe Young, unfortunately, never received the recognition that lesser artists received. Due to the shitty politics. Of the music business. None were more respected by their peers than was Mighty Joe Young. God Bless His Soul Eternally....
I do like the "less is more" school of blues guitarists. I'll have to dust off my vinyl copy of Bluesy Josephine. MJY, another guy who should have gotten better known. Very talented singer/guitarist.
So impressed to watch one of my all time favorite bluesman at the time he was at his best - when he recorded his Ovation and Sonet albums, which are among the best modern Chicago blues albums ever made. Thank you so much for this amazing video. If you got some more, don't hesitate to feed Joe's fans.
going thru my 80s mix tapes found a mighty joe track on one ,nice sax and piano solo plus joes solo .gunna have to dig out the vinyl and play it to find out which track it is.
God damn this is nice and clean!! plays licks like b.b.and sings like otis r. ! MJY HAS got it locked down and sewn up tight son!!! thats otis rush not redding, nobody and i mean nobody could sing like the late great otis redding!!!!!
In VERY loving memory of Mr. Cornelius "Mule" Boyson (1936 - 1994 R.I.P. Gone but NOT forgotten).
Chicago blues at its absolute finest. No rock bs or playing 1000 notes - just tasteful passionate playing.

I saw him in the Thief too, and although it was just a little snippet, I was impressed.

Blues really does not get any better than this
You haven’t heard enough blues
A man less spoken about but very great. I love his fingers and his voice... the true definition of the blues 😘
Man that tone & touch...perfection!
Saw Mighty Joe in Carbondale back in 78 backed up Albert King oh what a night that was holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So good to see him again.... Under-rated..... "LEGEND"!!
His touch is superb on the guitar like the The Glen Hoddle of the blues
Thank you! *Mighty Joe Young - September 23, 1927 - March 24, 1999* - Shared on Google+, Sept. 23, 2018

This is great but MJY doesn"t have the pipes of Otis Rush, who was a far better singer than Otis Redding IMO.
Thats my grandfather on Bass
Is this the same cat who played guitar on Tyrone Davis' "Can I change my mind" song?
@Carlo Duncan Yes
My cousin
Is that David Maxwell on piano?
Is this Bob Read-ee? You got name dropped on an album once, a series called Legacy of The Blues- playing piano
By the way, thanks for posting this. MJY is perhaps my favorite blues player.
No, not Bob Reidy. It’s Ken Saydak on the keys.
