    She should hear the story of how the Blackhawk was chosen for production. Sikorsky was in competition with another manufacturer for the Army's new helicopter. It was decided that both companies make a working prototype and fly them fully loaded with troops to specification. However, when the Sikorsky company's prototype was flying at night, it had a minor malfunction and the pilots were landing at what they thought was a corn field. It turned out to be trees. The helicopter crash-landed in the forest pretty hard. When Sikorsky's representatives got there, they were expecting carnage, but they found the entire helicopter intact and the crew and soldiers completely unharmed. All they had to do was replace the rotors and fly it out of there. It was a given that Sikorsky was the winner.

You should show her video of the Marine Corps' heavy-lift helicopters: the Sea Stallion, Super Stallion and King Stallion. 7:43 As far as I remember, a single Longbow can lock on to 128 targets at a time and distribute those targets to other units in the area to coordinate the attack.
    Please correct me If I'm wrong.

    • @HepauDK
      @HepauDK 3 роки тому +3

      @@abe612 Well, what I know about the Longbow is what I picked up playing Jane's Longbow 2 (1997) and Gunship 2000 (1993) on my PC back in the mid-90's, so I'm a bit rusty about the details.
      After reading through the beast of a manual for Longbow 2, I'll stand corrected. The Longbow mast-mounted FCR (fire-control radar) can identify and store up to 256 individual targets, both stationary and mobile. It has a scan range of 90° for ground targets and 360° for airborne targets. Distribution of targets to other helicopters, fighter planes and command posts is transmitted via a wireless data modem. :)
      But the coolest feature on the AH-64 in my oppinion, is the IHADSS (Integrated Helmet And Display Sight System) targeting system, that lets the pilot aim the 30mm M230 chaingun at anything he can see from the cockpit, just by looking at it, as well as see critical avionics information. :D

      @@thryxah6718 Apparently they're restructuring and reducing the amount of active varients of helo's. My time with them was several years back so I'm not 100% certain. But they were a fantastic platform, they were fast and agile, held a good compliment of weapons, from 50mm/30mm, Hellfire (fire and forget) plus a few others, all operational from the pilots stick. They were fantastic at strafing, high speed and deadly accurate. The radar and object tracking were sublime, it pinged and tracked friendly and foe providing the friendly had strobes. Sad days, but as with everything there is a replacement around the corner, no doubt the next generation of airmen and women will fall in love with it's replacement. The Little BadAss saved so many lives, and certainly brought the pain.

    Its not the scariest as there was a helicopter competing with the Apache for production by the U.S. and I don't remember the name or the company that made it, but like it was way more advanced than the Apache and it was significantly faster and could even somewhat fly like a plane where if it was basically struck by something it could glide like a plane and not only that it was a practical helicopter, but it was slower to produce and had a unit cost three times more of that than the Apache and since he used more and newer tachylogias it was not chosen to be produced, even though it was a step up.

      Developed in the '60's for the U. S. Army.
      It competed with the Cobra, but was more expensive and complicated. Ended up cancelled, after requirements changed.
      A number of features were incorporated into the Apache though.
