When I was a teenager, I watched our 2 story house burn to the ground. I will never be able to erase that image from my mind. I can still hear my mother's cries as she watched but made sure we were all out safely. That was over 70 years ago and I remember it clearly. This just breaks my heart!

Because the wind atomizes the water and then the heat immediately evaporates it. They mainly try to heavily wet areas ahead of the fire to contain the spread but obviously in these conditions with the limited resources they have, not much containment is possible.
