  • On March 19th 1921 the largest military engagement of the Irish War of Independence took place at Crossbarry, Cork.
We have pieced together a short video explaining the complex tactical battle that took place as Tom Barry and the Cork 3rd Brigade Flying Column attempted to evade capture from the surrounding Crown Forces.

Excellent presentation. My grandfather was in the IRA in North Tipperary and that song is my dad's party piece

Had the immense pleasure of meeting Flor Begley's son Diarmud in 2018 whilst filming The Brigade, which is available on Amazon Prime.

Don't forget the role of Buckley who informed the British that the column base was at Crossbarry
none of Monaghan's mines went off as intended - it is likely he was a British plant - deserters were usually shot so it is a mystery how he became embedded in the column.
The IRA column disbanded and there was much reduced activity in Cork for the last three months of the war of Independence when the action moved to Dublin which like 1916 was the most active area.

Where exactly is the old Forde house in Ballymurphy. Can't seem to find it around the Charlie Hurley moment. Does anyone know?

Fascinating topic and well presented. But the video presentation would be better without the wailing Scottish bagpipes. Annoying.

Could be the Uilleann Pipes of Irish traditional music, similar but different.
