Absolutely legends ,All 4 studio albums are a Real Killers!Without this outstanding dudes we may never heard about: Fu Manchu,Nebula,Unida,Dessert Sessions and naturally Queens of Thé Stone Âge!!!!Hooray for KYUSS!
me too bro. i think about asking a local stoner band i know to do some cover cuz theyre pretty good. but do you think there will be copyright problems and they cant do it?
I (and so many others) feel you man!! You hit the nail... I went to Desertfest last Sunday, and when you get the chance go see a performance of 3000mods! I had many Kyuss moments :) Not the same of course but you'll know what I mean when you see them...
Scott Bickell the cool thing is they are more popular 20 years later and the music still holds up to this day. Just wish Josh would put it back together just to do a few shows would be nice.
Was lucky enough to see them live in '93 in a tiny club in Grand Rapids Michigan. They blew everyone in that place away. The low frequencies would throw everything out of tune. They'd have to retune after every song. Shook the earth.
I used to go to their shows in early 90’s. I was way into them. Them and nirvana out on the most powerful shows saw them both three times. Could you imagine? It was mind blowing
First time I ever heard Kyuss I said to myself "this sounds like it comes from another planet" then I realized it did cause the desert really does feel like being on another planet.
This band threw me. Then I realised after a few songs how incredible they are about 10 yrs ago. Then I was in Malaysia recently and a guy there who has been doing great work on a Turtle Salvation project was playing Kyuss through his PC. First time anybody recognized what he was playing in 7 years. Big hugs I wish him the best as after 7 years , he is heading home back to Boston. Kyuss do not age.
Are you fucking kidding me?!!! This setlist is phenomenal! What?!!! The fucking MELVINS opened!!!!! Where the fuck was I???? Right just got out of the army. Was home getting FUCKED UP. Damn. This was a dream show.
First time I ever heard them was when they opened for Metallica in Brisbane Aussie in the early 90’s, was the black album tour. Fucking blew me away they were amazing.
I saw them in Perth, Western Australia in April 1993 when they supported Metallica. I was blown away. I had never heard of them and they were just amazing! I was an instant fan and still am. I actually enjoyed them more than Metallica.
I loved them in early 90’s. Saw them a few times. Them and nirvana were like spiritual experienced in power. Their manager called me in 92 or 93. Asked if I was a great drummer. I said, no. Shit. Bjork just quit and Metallica asked them to open in Australia. That was my big break but did didn’t get me another drum set after my baby set I got when I was five.
I always wondered how josh got his guitar sound around this time. it almost sounds like he's got his bass and his gain cranked up to the point where his amp is squealing at some points but the fuzz coming from it is amazing.
doommetal101 its actually only the cabinets that are designed for bass. he used guitar heads. the amount of low end he gets is mostly due to the fact he is tuned down two whole steps
I know this is way late but also use some kinda boss distortion (i think mega distortion), I use Ds-1 (most common) Turn Distortion all down and level all way up for an extra boost. He played thru some kinda Marshall head (JCM 800 likely) which you can emulate also ( I use line6 pod2.0) and most importantly play thru the neck pickup for that extra bass and make sure you have something speaker wise that can handle bass, and obviously downtune to C.
He is tuned to C Standard, ampeg bass cabinet so he managed to get along with the bass tone of Scott who also played on Ampegs. Amp distortion only, some say he used an old Big Muff. He used Marshall guitar heads and old Valve heads(check them out they are a beast). Kyuss brilliance is not in lyrics or technique, you remember Kyuss by that “umph” sound that literallt crush your head. Check Thong Song for a clear redemblance of that “umph”. Also, as a guitarist and bassist I can tell you that Josh used that Hungarian/Lydian guitar scale that breakes from the usual solos of every other band. It’s an easy scale but it’s really hard to create somethinf from it because it’s too simple, same as stoner rock genre. And don’t forget that they somehow managed to get a “serpent” rhytmic ritualic groove out of their tone, pay attention to Garcia how he dances over it, it’s like a desert snake vibing while he watches the void. If you get up and try to dance like him, believe you will get what I mean with that serpent dance groove. This is actually Brant Byork creation but I think the best Kyuss is with Alfredo Hernandes, he got the most out of their tone. Also, check Lowrider - Texas pt1&2, they are the only guys that actually really sounds like Kyuss, they actually build that tone along with the bass fills and everything, except the serpent groove that is original to Kyuss only. God luck and good speed my friend! Let the stoner vibe get you the holy mountain!
Garcia quoted Melvins in 1:17:38, when he speeks sominthg about the place they're playing? My english gets "blurry" sometimes when seeing some videos of live concerts, especially when the artist is drunk and stoned hahaha
Wow, KYUSS were amazing this evening. I just jumped from an other video from 2012 without the original bassist and Josh and that was real crap. Now I now what a genius alone the man on the bass guitar is. They created a wall of guitar sound in perfection. I will hear them forever. Damn, were these guys great :-) Thank you for the video upload.
@Gene Bone ohh fuck josh. QOTSA doesn't hold a candle to Kyuss. Everything he's done since has been boring. Must suck knowing you did all you're best work by the time you were 22.
@@Bluestomiv Just because Josh writes earworms and has a knack for infectious melodies and catchy hooks doesn't mean he isn't making the music he genuinely wants to make. He took desert rock to the next level with Queens. Go back to Rated R and give it a better second listen.
Thanks so much for putting this on here . ☮️ and love from Preston , Lancashire , to all you with a good taste in music . Kyuss should be on prescription man 😎
Totally Impressive!! Kyuss, the crowd, the mixers, the camera work, the stage set up... but no jack and coke? no gin and tonic? that sounds like a serious problem indeed! I guess thats why they all want to go to Walmart after the show!!

But yeah it would have been nice to see him behind the kit on this gig. Ok thanks man

i hope so...
with riffage like this im glad to stay
I love how fucking great that bass sounds. Scott Reeder, the most underrated bassist of all time
josh said he's the best bassist he's ever seen.
Haven’t found a single hateful comment against Kyuss. Something you don’t see compared to many other bands. Awesome fanbase 🤟😜
It's good to see Kyuss fans. I'm glad that I'm not alone jamming to this band.

First Kyuss Song I ever heard was PHOTOTROPIC, it was like the first time I ever heard War Pigs by Black Sabbath. A moment to remember for ever.

I was working at that gig (somewhere behind the right pole. Ha!). Opened by The Melvins. Pretty loud night. Good times.
