There were two unexpected, but huge trades in the middle of the Stanley Cup Final. The Washington Capitals have dealt goaltender Darcy Kuemper to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for center Pierre-Luc Dubois. The New Jersey Devils finally acquired their number-one goaltender, trading with the Calgary Flames for Jacob Markstrom. Also, my San Jose Sharks have made a couple of moves. My biggest concern with Markstrom is his rebound control. Vanacek had a similar issue this year and the young D core of the devils struggled to clear pucks from the crease. I still think the devils need a solid defensive defensemen to help in those areas and help teach these young offensive minded d men (Hughes, Nemec, Casey) how to be better in those areas too. In a perfect world they could go get Tanev from Dallas because he’s a defensive minded shot blocking juggernaut with no quit. Outside of all of that I was very impressed with what I saw from Hatakka he doesn’t put up the points but b very sound defensively for his age. I hope to see more of that from him this season
If they can't get a good vet defenseman, I know they have Dougie Hamilton but outside of that, They need the youngmen to step up next season but I'm curious to see if Sheldon Keefe is the right coach because I personally wanted to see Jay Woodcroft but since he was coaching in a international championship series I believe they didn't want to wait on him or they didn't want him.

I was thinking more hunter shepherd for the caps back up goalie to Lindgren.
I will say it sounds like Caps GM statement makes it seem like they plan on playing Dubois with 1C minutes as he's a guy the Capitals have reportedly targeted in the past. I think the giant amount of ice time will do him well. Really feels like LA mismanaged Dubois. He was bounced around the entire lineup playing something like 15:42 average TOI a night and had to deal with two different coaches and a pretty passive 1-3-1 system that a few players criticized in the exit interviews.

PLD clearly is a locker room cancer. Never seen a guy with such talent be dumped by so many teams. It just doesn't happen.
The easiest way for me to spin this is to say they figured 4 years of Dubois (followed by a trade) would be better than 3 years of a declining Kuemper. Then again, Dubois hasn't even lasted four years on a team, so there ya go.
We traded kupari vilardi iafallo and a 2nd for one season of dubois and two seasons of a washed up goalie in kuemper

Caps got fleeced. They took on a known serial locker room cancer with the worst contract in the league. What a travesty.
It was a very risky even if you wanted to dump your goalie anyway.
The caps GM should fire himself if it fails.

As a Kings fan who watched PLD play live, I support your conclusion. Now the Kings have a goalie who we were paying 650k in 2018 a d now we have him back at 5.3 mil and we only ended up losing 3 players who were 1st round picks, 2 players who were 2nd round picks and an actual 2nd round picks....Rob Blake....genius in action....at least he didn't try to get Cal Petersen back and give him another pay raise.....
