Why....Extremely High Risk and Medium Reward, at best it's only a 2.5-2 million aav overpay.

I need to see more before I love love it, but I don't hate the potential!

With so much cap space both now and in the near future I think, if anyone could afford this risk, it'd be the Capitals. Best case scenario they get a 1C/2C whose overpay will look better as the cap rises, worst case they take the AAV hit but can survive as they enter a rebuild

Just wait you won't by end of October you'll be cursing your GM for saddling your team with him.

Dubois contract is wayyy worse...Kuemper is 3 year at 5.25 and they need a goalie, Dubois has SEVENS years at 8.5, thats 4 years more not 2

As a pure contract yes for sure PLD is more difficult to navigate. But, if I'm Washington who has a good deal of cap space and more to come in the next few years, I'd rather roll the dice on 7 years for a 25 year-old who might thrive on my team as opposed to 3 years on a 34 year-old who hasn't worked for my team. We'll see how it plays out!

The kings made a huge mistake in trading for him. But the kings win this deal just in the fact they save 4 years at 8.5 and 3.25 for the next 3 years. Cal Peterson is gone but Eric Portillo is on deck.

With the money that has to go to players like Byfield, for sure! They win that element of things because PLD wasn't going to improve in LA, but lose the entire fiasco overall haha. I also think the Caps can "win" this trade without having to call LA losers. Win/win for both organizational situations as LA gets more of tangible commodity in $$ and WSH gets a shot at a Top 6 C. Very interesting situation!

Hands down, Kings won this trade. Even if Kuemper plays garbage for us, his contract length and aav is less than PLD. Also, maybe Kuemper can thrive in our system again. PLD went through three teams. Never been a fan of his. No drive. No thanks.

I hear you! As I said in an earlier comment, with the money that has to go to players like Byfield, the Kings win that element of the trade because PLD wasn't going to improve in LA. But, they unfortunately lose the entire PLD fiasco overall haha. I also think the Caps can "win" this trade without having to call LA losers. Win/win for both organizational situations as LA gets more of tangible commodity in cap space & shed a player who wasn't going to work, and WSH gets a shot at a Top 6 C while dumping a player who also wasn't working for them. A very interesting swap that we'll have to keep an eye on! Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
