First off thank you for your service 🇺🇸On a scale to 1-10 how would u recommend joining the AirForce for anybody ? because I really want to pursue it after college but I have people in my ear telling me not to join and it’s no place for a black man and it’s all lies when they tell u the benefits but I promise I do my best to block the naysayers out.
Hey, man. Thanks for your support💪🏽. For me, I like what I do, and the adventure brings, and the people I’ve met have made the Air Force a great experience for me. For you, the benefits are definitely there. Especially if you use your degree to commission as an officer. The technical and leadership skills you gain are definitely up there. Will you be a minority? The AF is about 15% black. The Army is about 29% for comparison. I used to ask myself the same question before I came in: “Does a black man belong in the military?” I see it like this: My race is who I am, you see it as soon as I walk through the door. You will remember me because I carry myself with confidence and will always look to excel at whatever I’m doing. I know there’s another kid looking to follow whatever path I carve. I want them to know to know that they belong wherever they know they can succeed. Yes, this country hasn’t had the best history with our people, including veterans of color, but the longer I’ve been in and met different people, the more I’ve realized that were all on the same team. Yes, the military is run by a government that once considered us less than a person, but this is still my country too. My people, my family back home, just like everyone else’s family, calls this country home. Though I pray for peace, I will always be willing to do my part to keep my family, and everyone else’s around me, safe. Also, now that I’m here, I figure at some point I can see firsthand where these issues come from, and will find the opportunity to improve them. I can never complain about a situation if I’m not looking for the solution. I hope this answers your question and helps with your decision. If your thinking about it, I’d say keep doing your research, if you keep finding things thsy interest you, give it a chance. I think you’ll be surprised when you see how many different opportunities it can really bring. I talk about all of this in my first video: “Why I Joined the Military in 2021”. Hey man, it depends on your unit, but most RF shops work a typical 0800 to 1600 day, with organized PT before on some days. Of course, if the missions demands, you can always be called in outside of these hours
Im not too sure on how that will affect your eligibility, but that would be a great question for a recruiter. They will go over your medical history in preparation for MEPS
Do you have decibel limits, or noise limits as far as activities in your apartment on base? I really want to join, gonna talk to a recruiter. I am asking because I am a guitarist. Thanks in advance!

Also what did you join as and what do you plan on doing once you leave?
Hey man, thanks for watching! To answer your question, yes there are times when the Air Force/military life feels lonely. You leave your home town family and friends, and you and the friends you make when you first get in often go your separate ways because of different assignments. It can be tiring, always having to fork new friends, and it can be hard to tell who is temporary and in your life to stay. For this, I would say don’t give up on forming those relationships. Find those people that you connect with, and enjoy all of your time together, no matter how short or long you know it will be. You may end up living in different places, but those friendships will always last if they’re real. Some of my best buddies live on the other side of the planet. For everyday life, keep putting yourself out there. Get involved, put yourself in places to meet new people, whether it’s a class, a trip, or just starting a conversation in your shop. You never who you will meet, and what opportunities can come from it. Hope this helps.
I was in from 94 to 2003 and it was all self PT or you just didn't do PT. And there was no PT test, some bases you road a stationary bike and some you never had a pt test at all.
Looks like some has changed, and some things have stayed the same. I’ve heard of the bike test before. We’re hoping to promote prioritizing physical health again in our unit. Thanks for watching!
quick question man really important how did you study for the asvab and which sections did you study that was important because I want the same gig which is cycbersecurity field job. but I am very overwhelmed of what to study. love the content man.
The main section for Comm/cyber jobs is Electrical. I used the ASVAB app on the App Store. Check out my “Meps and ASVAB“ video, I talk more about what I used to study for my job in there.
Yes, right now the Space force is looking to fill Cyber and Intel jobs. We have a lot of guys in my job who apply, and some who have already transferred.
@@thelifewithkev wow...so you going to try and make a move to the space force? Good luck with whatever you try do. Thank you for your service and your content
It all depends on the job. Some require more technical skills than other, but as a whole, the Air Force is more technical other branches. Check out foreverwingman.com. It has all job listings and the required math score for each job on the ASVAB.
hey good video, question though: i saw you said in another comment that RF started requiring sec+ at the end of last year but you’re studying for it now outside of tech school, do you have to get it bc you’re in an RF workplace and is it something that’s required of all RF across the AF? I’m also RF but I’ve been told nothing about getting sec+ but i also happen to not be assigned to actual RF worktivities at my home base. just wondering
Yes, all RF should be required to get sec+ now. I don’t know if they do now, but we didn’t get it in tech school when I went through, it was a new change. It’s usually up to your unit to put you in a course to test now. If your able to ask your leadership, maybe they’ve already started to or can put you in a course.
Yes, Sec+ is required for all cyber fields now, including RF. I’m still pretty sure it’s not a part of our tech school yet. Since it’s still a pretty new requirement, all of us having been getting it once we got to our duty station. For preparing for tech school, I would say just go in ready to learn. The information isn’t too hard, but if you master it, you’ll set yourself ahead and it’ll help you at your first base, just from remembering radio/satcom theory. For Preparing for Sec +, check out my “How I Passed Sec+” video👇🏽. Get involved in the squadron, it’s a great way to get leadership experiment and meet ew people. Get out and enjoy the area too, Keesler I’m a nice beach town, a lot of great spots to check out.
It depends on the job. Some career fields such as maintenance or security forces, or any jobs with 24/7 ops will have weekend shifts. If you don’t work this type of job, you’ll usually have weekends off, or at least days off throughout the week to make up for it.
The watch from this video was the same one they had us buy in BMT. It was like 14 bucks. I now just have a simple Casio sports watch. I just need it to tell time and have a spot watch for when I run.
Can I be a tower climber in rf transmissions? Can I also apply for cct after receiving a job after BMT and accepting my job whatever it may be if it can’t be rf transmission???
Yes, tower climbing is a part of RF, my shop is actually getting certified againin a few months. It isn’t at every base though, if you were base Comm, you are more likely to be climbing towers that expeditionary units. You can cross train into CCT or any other job, but not immediately after BMT. The Air Force has invested money in you once you have accepted a job, so there is a 3 year time in service requirement to cross train. For special warfare, including CCT, the time requirement is 2 years in the Air Force. You would just have to decide if you would like to go straight into CCT, or wait a couple years after being in the AF.
@@thelifewithkev awesome! Also what is your work schedule looking like? How many days on and off ? How many hours? I’m sorry I watched this video when it was near bedtime I may have forgotten this key info lol.
@@thelifewithkev is there a required ASVAB score as well? Sorry I am hitting you with these questions. I keep hearing negatives about talking directly to recruiters because their end game is just to get you to sign the dotted line without your best interest in mind .
@@iguzzlehenny616 No problem bro, I completely understand. Yes there is a minimum ASVAB score for RF, specifically in the electronics section. Check out this link foreverwingman.com/career_fields/3d1x3-rf-transmission-systems/. The AFSC is outdated, but the content should still be the same. If you check out my video “How to Choose Your Job in the AF” I talk about this process a bit more there too.

Hey bro I’m pretty close to getting cable and antenna systems job . Just have to see what recruiter says they tried to get me another job on my list but I didn’t want to and got offered this one higher on my list instead . What do you know about cable and antenna systems I wanna know if it’s really useful in the outside world
Hey, cable and antenna systems is pretty similar to what I do as an RF or SATCOM technician. Telecommunications is a big field, dealing with how we communication using using satellites, radio waves or cable for television, internet, 5G service, and lots of other things. There are plenty of jobs out there for this field. Of course, starting out enlisted, you will be on more of the maintenance side of the equipment, but you’ll learn the fundamentals and hardware behind worldwide communications, which translate well into a lot of other tech or IT fields. A lot of the guys in my job go to school for computer science, cybersecurity, or IT management. There’s countless jobs out there for these fields. I would just keep doing more research if you’re into these kinds of things. Hope this helps.

I don’t know if you’ll see this but you seem like a great guy you should give the special warfare jobs a thought
Hey, man. Preciate you watching and noticing. It’s definitely something to think about.
quick question man really important how did you study for the asvab and which sections did you study that was important because I want the same gig which is cycbersecurity field job. but I am very overwhelmed of what to study. love the content man.
The main section for Comm/cyber jobs is Electrical. I used the ASVAB app on the App Store. Check out my “Meps and ASVAB“ video, I talk more about what I used to study for my job in there.
Is PT a squad thing or a solo choice
Do you know serving in the air force with a medical waiver? I’m working to enlist, so I want to know others experiences and advice on that matter!
Same here i have a metal plate in my ankle I might have to get a waiver
Good video. Can you transfer over to the space force with your cyber job in the air force?
Good content
Yes, right now the Space force is looking to fill Cyber and Intel jobs. We have a lot of guys in my job who apply, and some who have already transferred.
@@thelifewithkev wow...so you going to try and make a move to the space force? Good luck with whatever you try do. Thank you for your service and your content
I grew up as an AF brat, and I tripped out at the lack of facilities off-base
🔥🔥🔥
Do u have to be good at math for the Air Force? I seen a lot of the careers require it.
Not necessarily
It all depends on the job. Some require more technical skills than other, but as a whole, the Air Force is more technical other branches. Check out foreverwingman.com. It has all job listings and the required math score for each job on the ASVAB.
future USAF recruit
How long are you stationed in Tampa?
You have to take a poly test for your career?
hey good video, question though: i saw you said in another comment that RF started requiring sec+ at the end of last year but you’re studying for it now outside of tech school, do you have to get it bc you’re in an RF workplace and is it something that’s required of all RF across the AF? I’m also RF but I’ve been told nothing about getting sec+ but i also happen to not be assigned to actual RF worktivities at my home base. just wondering
Yes, all RF should be required to get sec+ now. I don’t know if they do now, but we didn’t get it in tech school when I went through, it was a new change. It’s usually up to your unit to put you in a course to test now. If your able to ask your leadership, maybe they’ve already started to or can put you in a course.
The mindset of a Lion
💯
picking up this job for the air guard, so from what i’ve read, sec + is required now? and is there anything i can do to prepare for tech school
At what stage does a permanent resident obtain his citizenship after joining the us airforce?
Living like kings and queens. Is army people watching this in disbelief
Can you Guys have your phones during BMT
Are you completely off on the weekends?
It depends on the job. Some career fields such as maintenance or security forces, or any jobs with 24/7 ops will have weekend shifts. If you don’t work this type of job, you’ll usually have weekends off, or at least days off throughout the week to make up for it.
I don’t know if it’s been asked already but what watch do you use?
The watch from this video was the same one they had us buy in BMT. It was like 14 bucks. I now just have a simple Casio sports watch. I just need it to tell time and have a spot watch for when I run.
@@thelifewithkev Thanks man! Keep up the good work! You’re doing great.
Yo bro u at tyndall? I'm working on the cdc center on base
Close bro. We’re actually at MacDill. Still neighbors though🤙🏽
Am dating someone that is in the air Force so I can watch you and see how you do it
What did you score on your asvab
@@thelifewithkev thank you for taking time out of your day to respond brotha
What are the different jobs in the Air Force ?
There are tons of different jobs. From plane maintainer, to medical, aircrew, admin, intel and more. Check out the Air Force website here: www.airforce.com/careers
@@thelifewithkev wow thanks for replying man 🙏 . I’m really excited about this job and even more motivated about all this I didn’t get my number one job but this definitely seems like a good choice and opportunity ! Really gonna strive to do my best and benefit from what I’ll learn . Thanks for the info bro , be safe !

I liked and subbed
Hi thank you for the video! Do you have to climb on antenas ., towers etc ?
Hey, thanks for watching! Yes, it depends on your base and the mission, but it is common for RF to climb radio/antenna towers. My shop should actually be going for our climbing training pretty soon. It’s usually voluntary to go up for it.
