Oh wow, that Vision of Angels response was incredible. This video interview with Anthony Phillips is gold just for that response!

    Hi John,
Always insightful and honest as always. Very good questions indeed. But then if he wouldn't have exited Steve Hackett would not have entered. So I guess... we got the best of both worlds.
God bless and keep up the great work to you and all the incredible editing team trying to put all these incredible pieces out.
    Tino

Anthony's keyboard playing on Mike Rutherford's small creeps day is phenomenal. Now that Genesis is getting back together, why not have a real reunion with former band members, the way the Eagles did before Glen Frey passed away.

I think Anthony would have been more unlucky in Genesis year by year because his pastoral elegy wouldn't be able to come through anymore after Trespass, I guess. The chances to get his songs on an album would have been smaller. I can't figure out songs like "Luyy - an illusion", "Queen Bettine" "Stranger", "Regrets" or "Lucy Will" on any Genesis album. On the other hand, he sure suceed in forcing himself to be a bit more aggresive on e-guitar on "The Knife" as well as on parts of "Scotish Suite", so you never know. Imaging Mike would have left instead on Anthony. We would say: Mike did so beautiful 12string work with Anthony, how could he function on "Invisible Touch"? Even Steve went poppy on "Cured", for instance. Anthony himself went poppy on "Invisible Men" - my then girlfriend said: "What, that's the same guy who played the 12sreing magic?" So you can figure him on Mama, if you please. You never know ...

Hard to say but I know he's said its hard to not wonder 'what if'. He's admitted he's not nearly as good an electric guitarist as steve. Steve is a great lead player and electrical player. I don't think Ant was ever "well I really need a solo here". ALthough I could easily see him coming up with Entangled. Not so much 'I know what I like".
But he does say he and tony were the most 'at odds' it would be intersting to know exactly what that looked like track by track on Trespass. I could easily see him coming up with some of my favourite hackett parts, which are more 'colouring'. Steve is right about The Lamb, not a lot of guitar parts, one wonders if somebody like Ant, who admits he can be an arse to work with sometimes, would have gotten more guitar parts on there.
But I have to say Epping Forest an Cinema Show and Los Endos, not sure what the devil those would have come out like. I know he's good friends with STeve now, it would be funny to be sitting around with guitars and him saying "well here's what I would have done".

Genesis firts album has many beautilful pop/prog sounding songs. Anthony Phillips has also recorded songs that could have been radio singles; like "Lucy Will" ...

    He should contact Peter Gabriel.

A more interesting question is about if Peter Gabriel hadn't left Genesis... When had Phil Collins started to sing if Peter stayed in Genesis?

If he’d stayed in Genesis, everything about that band would be completely different.

Anthony’s accent is so thick I was unable to follow along and understand what he’s saying
