I remember when my Zimway friends first introduced this to me. I walked in their apartment, and it reeked of death. I was about to escape, but my infatuation with Zimway culture anchored me there. I watched this woman that I love(unknown to her) peel, pick, and rinse. Next she began to dice the maguru in bite size portions. The process was similar to the video, but I was anticipating the taste. When all was done, she removed a piece from the pot and blew it for a few seconds. She said I might not like it, but I skeptically went forward. Once it hit my tongue, the strange furry-like texture threw me off, but the flavor was indescribable; however awesome! American tripe was okay, but Maguru changed the SA food game for me.
I would also recommend adding potatoes 😊

No tripe can ever be soft after an hour of cooking please! I cook mine for 4 hours unless you’re using a pressure cooker then you’ll cook it faster.
