The Norwegian one I would assume they didnt use enough water, its a fairly fine line between it being crunchy and it being liquid
get ptsd from looking at the winter ones haha, yeah it is not supposed to be crunchy but overall if you are lucky and get the wholepack with a good meal it is one of the best things out on a cold day after walking in snow the whole day XD

As a Mexican, it's ironic how many countries have our food as their main dish.

Maybe it's the one that is more proteic, or having something spicy may help? Because some of the other food didn't have taste if you noticed, but the mexican food, they knew what it tasted like: when it was cheese or beans or anything spicy.
I never had a Mexican inspired MRE when i was in the military, the Ratatouille was my favorite and most guys would try to get the Chili Mac 😅
No offense but its because making Mexican food is easy to cook and inexpensive.

I'll just say as a Norwegian that "Real Turmat" which translates to "Real Hikingfood" is so good. Unfortunately as they said "that they lost 2 minutes of cook time, and their waters not very hot" and as a result it gets crunchy. if heated and prepared properly it doesnt taste any different from what you could make in your kitchen at home.
Crunshy chili con carne is how you get to eat it in the army aswell. As you dont usually have warm water on standby..... so scarra saying its simulating warm time, is actually pretty accurate

I've had it many times and the beans never get soft, all the other dishes are WAY better

@@norsknerdwhoamIwell most if not all of the time we did have warm water. We always boiled the water during the night or while in the tent. (If needed ofc)
To be fair I wouldn't call the Norwegian one an MRE, it's just what we call "turmat" which is just easy to prepare food normally used for long distance hikes. Tur means trip but also refers to hiking, mat is food. There are other brands of "turmat" that taste significantly better than the one they had 🙌🏻 My personal favorite is "brun lapskaus" from Gilde 👍🏻
the norwegian MRE is the one the military use so it is an MRE. they did however not cook it properly. when its crunchy they either didnt mix, used too little water or cold water.

It is MRE, I had it when I served in Norway. They even give you a laxative gum cus the food gives you constipation :)

My aunt gave me a packaged drink that's basically like Gatorade with electrolytes and it was so good. I haven't tried a meal though but they look good!

@@K000H yeah its not good chocolate but when you are so low on energy, barely any strength left and have too realy dig deep down to keep moving.
I'l tell you that little brown piece of cacao, suger and fat tasted like heaven.
The rest of the mre is kinda meh the ones you put boiling water in you can get real unlucky with.

Yeah the German MRE also comes with a small dark chocolate bar (we call it "tank chocolate" because it's hard enough to use as armour) and it's the best thing ever if you've been going for 36 hours.
the Canadian IMP is one of the breakfast variety, and everything is meant to be eaten in the package. Those peaches coming out gave me flash backs, no one should eat those, but that pb & j tortilla is soo good ngl

That Mexican style stew was one of the best ones. I used to just mix everything into the main meal after it was warmed up. Just add the tiny Tabasco that comes with it. I’d also trade the first strike bar and protein shake for the Gatorade powder. And eat the fruit mix while the stew warms up.
Trading the first strike bar is blasphemy. Those were the most sought after item in my platoon. Some dudes would have traded their first born child for my cran-rasberry first strike. LOL

Camouflage review:
Toast - 8/10. Ghillie suit is good, but his head was sticking out.
Jodi - 5/10. Good colour choice, pants had patterning, top did not. Again head was sticking out.
John - 2/10. Finally a head was covered, shame the rest of him was clearly visible.
Sean, Syd and Scarra - 0/10. No effort was made to conceal their presence.
Cameraman - 10/10. Didn't reveal themselves once.
I wanted to see Toast try either the brisket or the chicken noodle soup MRE from the USA because those were my favorite in Air Force BMT

Was playing OSRS Leagues and around the 10 minute mark, I started tripping out when I heard the music while doing Pest Control lol.
the norwegian ones have something called real turmat. they r sold in practically every camping store in scanidnavia.
the norway ration of Real meals are something we eat while hiking in scandinavia. and it was crunchy because you didnt stir it well

i recognize the real field meal from the norwegian pack. i haven't tried it myself but they sell them to hikers and mountaineers as well at certain sports stores. i refuse to believe its anything above 6/10 even if prepared correctly
Not sure why this ended up in my feed... but I'm happy with the algorithm.
Thing about these meals is that parts of the meals are usually meant as snacks to eat on the go to provide energy between meals. I've bought and sampled a whole case of MREs I got as hurricane power outage supplies. I was okay with everything I tried but some of that may have been the novelty of it. I could see how the limited menu would grow stale over time if you repeatedly received one of the options you didn't like.
Personally... none of it was worse than a canned meal like what Toast mentioned. So if you are generally okay with those you'd be okay with most of the meals.
