  • Episode 15 of Love At First Scent
This was a Facebook Live broadcast streamed on Friday 11th May 2018. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
Perfumes covered in this video include:
    - Stash from Sarah Jessica Parker SJP (at the start of the video)
    - Amber Musk and others from Sugandhco (at the 17:30 minute mark)
    - Acqua Di Neroli from Ermenegildo Zegna (at the 32:30 minute mark)
    - Miel D'Arabie from Chopard (at the 57:30 minute mark)
    and my classic choice was
    - Muscs Koublai Khan from Serge Lutens (at the 47:00 minute mark)
** PLEASE DON'T FORGET the next episode will be broadcast on UA-cam Live on Sunday 13th May at 5 pm UK time, 12 pm New York time, 8 pm UAE time. **
    ---
    Here's comes the 'blotter' update...
    - Stash is doing surprisingly well: still woody, earthy and dark. Maybe starting to thin a bit, but that's a relatively small price to pay.
    - Musk Amber is... well, terrific! Superb longevity. Wonderful presence. Take-no-prisoners attitude. Swoon swoon swoon :-)
    - Acqua Di Neroli has become a touch too synthetic dry-synthetic, in the way that so many scents like this seem to, but it's still commendable. I'd certainly pack it in my summer suitcase!
    - And finally, Miel D'Arabie has failed to grab my interest. Rather wan, ineffectual, uncertain. Doesn't really seem to know what it wants to be.
Thanks very much indeed for watching!
[Samples of the above were provided by the respective brands, except for the Sugandhco and the Lutens, which are from my personal collection.]

Managed to catch the Facebook broadcast...minutes after it finished. Excellent stuff - your Sugandhco review was fascinating and sent me sliding onto the website. Converting rupees to GPB was gasp-inducing - I could afford GALLONS! Holding off, like a coward, until someone else tries it and gets the transaction through OK. Have just had a credit card stopped after trying to buy clothes off a foreign website and the bank flagged it as dodgy, so I don't want to risk causing trouble twice in a row. Your 'Classic scent' made me whoop with joy - MKK, my guilty pleasure! I indulge in a dab when I know there's a shower between me and my next human contact It's like horse-poo, warm and strangely pleasant. (Almost as satisfying as Musc Tonkin, which has a weird dead-mouse-behind-a-cupboard thing going on. I find it bizarrely attractive. Oversharing?) Will try to catch your broadcast on Sunday, if I can make UA-cam co-operate,

      Thanks for watching, Christine.
I confess, I haven't ordered online from Sugandhco yet, but if I do, I'll let you all know what happens.
And I'm glad you like MKK... even if it doesn't have quite enough dead mouse for you :-D

What a great selection for reviewing.
Yes, I like the Stash bottle. I’m only 3 years late, but still enjoying the video. The Burr books are on their way to my house. Can’t wait to read them. Jardin du Nil is one of the favorites. And Lovely...it really is lovely.

I love MKK. I just think it's beautiful. I'm always afraid others smell me as all those horrible things you read about, though, and I'm just anosmic.

Furriner No, don’t worry... I expect many people think you smell great 😉

I love MKK. I find it more urinous than fecal but maybe it's my nose. I find it has an amount of sweetness if you compare it to Dzing! by L'Artisan.

      @Persolaise  4 роки тому +1

Yes, I’d say there’s definitely a certain amount of sweetness there.
      Thanks for watching!

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! Off the cuff with your friends tuning in and a showcase of Sugandhco. I ended up buying Ruh Khus, gajra, jaadu, and Gil mitti (petrichor). I'll pick up musk amber and some other scents when it cools down.

I finally ordered the oil attar versions of Gajra, Sandalwood, Musk Amber, and Shahi Gulab (I couldn't find the rose one you mentioned). Musk Amber is wild! I am not sure there is an occasion for me to wear it in public, but I have been wearing at home for the experience. The other 3 scents are just lovely soliflores I find easy to wear. The strength and complexity of the scents were a nice surprise and more akin to modern niche or vintage mainstream perfumes thankfully. I will definitely be exploring others. Thank you for yet another excellent recommendation!

Ah, I am so, so pleased to read this. Thanks, Lia. And yes, Musk Amber is something else.

Burr’s book was really interesting. I still adore Sur la Nil and I think knowing the context helps me enjoy it.
Also enjoyed your article in Nez!

With a glass of red wine and Stilton cheese ready to watch your new video. Is that a bottle of the new BLEU Chanel? I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the release.

Wine, cheese and perfume. Nice combination!
Yes, that's the new Bleu parfum. Perhaps I'll get a chance to try it in today's broadcast.

I love MKK, but to me it is a fresh musk with adequate depth and a noticeable animalic twist. I wish it were raunchier, but then perhaps it would lose its elegance. I'm familiar with your bottle style, I had it but then moved on. (I was trying to reduce, and MKK had to go as I had Kiehl's which is more versatile though not as deep. And of course the other musk fragrance I have and love and wear - Kouros, which is also my most favourite perfume. Now I'm without Kiehl's as the bottle has been given to my mother. I do have and love Musc Ravageur, but I just don't view it as a musk perfume. I see people mentioning Musc Tonkin, which was severely underwhelming to me.)
The other musk from Lutens - Clair de Musc, is a very subtle clean basic musk, perhaps ideal for layering. Overpriced.
If it is okay to ask this, what do you think is a good wardrobe size for someone who is a user, lover and hobbyist but not a collector, and what would you be personally comfortable with? I'm sweating over it a bit as I add new stuff, and keep trying to purge at the same time. Another curious question - why did you felt the need to replace Yatagan with something else? I'm guessing it's not reformulation, as one can get earlier bottles at high but exorbitant prices if one shops around.
And btw, thanks for the review of Amber Musk. I'd try and get my nose on it the next time I go to India. Did you try the galauti and tunday kebabs in Lucknow? 'Sugandh' technically means good smell, which is another word for fragrance, which leads me to conclude that stuff like Sauvage and Aqva pour Homme Atlantique should not be called fragrance.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  6 років тому

Ani, thanks for watching and taking the time to leave such a detailed comment :-)
I got rid of my bottle of Yatagan because ultimately, I couldn't get on with the scent. I couldn't get past a stewed vegetable (celery?) note I kept detecting in it.
As for a wardrobe... that's such a personal decision. You'll just have to consider your needs carefully and make a judgement on that one :-)
And yes, of course I tried the kebabs! Absolutely delicious!

Just a friendly reminder Anindya, how you perceive smell is very subjective- what you may find not good, others may very well find appealing. Therefore, judge fragrances on a personal basis and lets not be a fascist in regards to what we should class as fragrance and what shouldn't , as it makes you come across awfully ignorant!!!!!

Best episode so far!! Thank you for the Sugandhco review💜 Traditional Indian Perfumery is in my heart. My attar journey began with Katie Puckrik years ago, and by the way you are reminding me of her so much (witty, funny, extraordinary charming and smart :) ) and condinued with the soulful Nikhil of Perfume Guru . I am grateful 🙏
