10 years in a paint factory, I can tell you, there are 2 things that I recommend everyone spend a bit of money on from the start on a big job. 1, A large muck bucket. Intermixing buckets of same color before a job is an absolute must. 2, extra paint. I know it costs a pretty penny but having an extra 5 gallons of the exact same paint that's been intermixed is an absolute. an extra few hundred bucks is a lot, but 5-10 years from now youd be happy to have it, and in this instance having a bit extra to throw a coat on the shed so they mach would be less work that repainting over the house
I agree!
The house is looking awesome painted. 😀
Thanks
I really like the house paint color. the white accent looks great. You can ramble anytime you want. You have a captive audience that enjoys your rants. Good luck with the paint.
Thank you very much!
Ouch! I feel your pain.
I love the color of the house, leave as is, save time and money
Oh my goodness. I totally understand your frustration. I HATE painting.
I do know that at the Lowes here they can only mix Sherwin-Williams paint on one paint mixing machine the other is for valspar. I would check to see if they mixed it on the correct machine.
That's a good point
The issue is probably with the one gallon vs five gallon. Sometimes the mixing system can't split out the dyes exactly the same between the different sizes. I learned this a few years back when my dad and I were flipping a house. Painted the interior using five gallon buckets. Once we were all done with all other work, we bought a one gallon can to touch up any marks on the walls. Ended up the gallon was slightly lighter than the five gallon version. We had to repaint individual walls to make it look right. Learned my lesson. This past year I repainted the outside of my house. They were out of stock in the five gallon buckets when I bought the first round of paint. When I went back, they had the five gallon buckets, but I asked for single gallons so the color would be consistent.
Good to know! Thx for sharing your experience.
I was always taught to mix your different buckets together to prevent different shades.
That's a good point, but both of these buckets are exactly the same to the eye.
Andrew take 2 pcs of siding, paint one with the new paint and 1 with the storm shelter paint and take them to the store with you. It may help convince them to remix your paint for free.
We went back and found the issue, I'll explain soon.
@@TKCL I was wondering if it was a difference in the color of the base paint. Or if the name of the paint in the mixing system had a different formula than what was mixed previously.
Wasn't the base, wrong information was entered.
Sorry they put you in this situation, as time is money, big money. I hope they make it right. The house color is more reflective, helps with Florida’s heat.
Dangit man, hope the store treats you right Andrew!
Just went to Lowe's and found the true root of the problem. I'll have a video out in a couple of days explaining what was found and the experience.
@@TKCL Glad you got it figured out!
Remix is common. Go ahead and paint a short board with the correct color. While at store have them put the remix on board and have them dry it and verify the color.
We just went to Lowe's and found the problem. Also had them paint and dry our correct sample.
@@TKCL fantastic, unfortunately it will take your valuable time to repaint.
Whether matching from existing or using a paint chip, I always have them do a color match....
Paint the storm shelter to match the house. I mixed paint for JC Penny's when I worked for them in Clearwater, Fla. I can tell you this, the color can be off. I told people if they where painting a large area, like a house, to mix all the paint into a large container. Say 10 gal. to mix it all together so it all matches. I know paint machines have come along way since I mixed paint. The tint could have been off Andrew or the person tinting the paint could have put more or less in of one color tint. Ask to store manager to come out and look at the paint. I would still ask them for the paint or a refund. Good Luck !
We just went to Lowe's and found the problem. I'll explain in a upcoming episode
Good reason to go to a paint store instead of Lowes. Lowes just hires anyone and shows them how to use a machine. Doesn't lowes offer a color match guarantee though?
If you read their fine print, it's managers discretion on custom tinted paint .
Several guys already told my story...ordered 5 gallons mixed paint the store employee used the formula for 1 gallon the actual paint store is the best
I watched "live" as well. Here's an idea for the big blank area on the house...
Someone suggested projecting your logo on the side of the house. Take this to the next level. Put up a projector and some sort of screen (if wanted for clarity purposes). Then for the "live" project your logo. During other videos, you could project product sponsors, merch or names of special donors to the channel. When you're having a gathering you could project the ball game, the movie, Christmas decorations, or even hold a class with a live audience (plenty of seating in the yard - put up a tent if wanted).
I am seriously kicking around that idea. But keep in mind when the house is complete in a few months, our live streams will move to it. So I might had better not invest much, if anything into it.
I would do the wall closest to the storm shelter I 2 more coats of the same paint because you go back and get a remix you will need to prime the house because you will be darker just adding a different mix
Hi, Andrew! You are right about Sherwin-Williams paint. It’s the absolute best. My dad always used their paint when he was a building contractor. Can hardly wait until tonight.
See you soon!
Welcome to the life of a painter! I never leave the paint store without a side by side dry match. Learned that lesson the hard, just like you did. Best of luck!
If you get new paint I would paint some on the shelter first to test the match
Good point
The same thing happened to us Lowe's mix is different than going to a the store that made the paint
My best friend is a pro painter and says buy your paint at one store, not all over! The calibration of the equipment at the different stores is slightly different one store to the other or Lowes or Sherwin Williams. He stays with one store for all paint on one job! From the experience of a pro!
We went back to Lowe's and found the problem. I'll explain in a upcoming episode
I completely understand your frustration. If it were me, I’d paint the utility building to match the house and rock on.
Either way I definitely respect whatever decisions you make.
🇺🇸✊🏼
So sorry t
o hear that. I know how frustrating that can be. Colors are so important and something you plan for all that time. I know how disappointed you all are and all that time you feel you have wasted. I didn't really see a difference until you stood directly by the storm shelter. Then I could see what you were talking about. So sorry and look forward to hearing what the outcome is.
Thank you, we just went to Lowe's and found the true root of the problem. I'll explain soon
That house dose look good though holy crap, same color as my house
I like it
I heard you identify what the color match problem was when you were showing the 1 gallon paint can with the mix sticker from Sherwin Williams and then talking about taking that gallon can with the mix sticker to Lowes to buy paint. The paint at Lowes in not the same as what's in a "true Sherwin Williams" paint store even though the label says it is "Sherwin Williams". That's why pro painters go to a real paint store and not to a big box like Lowes/Home Depot. Learned this from the painter who painted our house when we built it.
We found the problem and you are partially correct. But Lowe's does mix true Sherwin Williams colors.
1) Keep in mind Lowe's and all stores mix to spectral tolerance, not visual tolerance. They can use a light meter to very it's within tolerance but paint that's within spectral tolerance can still visually look very different to the human eye. 2) The base paint bought at Lowe's with Sherwin Williams colors is not the same paint you would get if you bought Sherwin Williams paint at the Sherwin Williams store. The slight (or major) base paint differences will absolutely affect the final visual color. 3) Lowe's has a very liberal paint return policy. They will accept the unsatisfactory paint back however they may never be able to exactly visually match paint you bought at a Sherwin Williams store even though they are licensed to mix spectrally match Sherwin Williams colors from the Sherwin Williams database. (Their system also includes spectral matches for colors of almost every paint brand sold in the US.)
We found the real problem and yes you are correct, however once the problem was identified they had no issue matching the paint up.
What a bummer our Sherwin Williams would make it good with no question's ask. They are the top of the line in my location. Hope .your people are that good about it to
We went back to Lowe's and found the problem. Video out soon
A few well placed arborvitae trees will fill in that side of the house where there are no windows. The color looks great on the house, but if it's not what you want, tell them to make it right.
Shrubbery can definitely help.
@@TKCL
HEAD KNIGHT: We shall say 'nee' again to you if you do not appease us.
ARTHUR: Well, what is it you want?
HEAD KNIGHT: We want... a shrubbery!
A path!
Andrew what a drag. I have the same passion for painting as you do. I had a similar experience. Bought a gallon of white paint from Lowe's and used it. Liked it. Needed more paint went back and thought that I would buy a better paint [same finish, same color, same company] was thinking better quality would last longer. Painted it and when I finished and it dried it was more gray then the first gallon. I was upset because I hate painting with a passion. And now I have to go back to the store buy the first paint again and paint again. Had another issue with lowes and went and talked to a manager and they had no problem correcting it. I would suggest buy the same paint you first used and talk to a manager you might be surprised to the out come
We went back to Lowe's and found the problem. I'll explain soon
Seen your explanation on the live cast👍
Andrew, I was able to see the live cast and your explanation on the lightning rod question that I asked you. Lightning rods ground your roof from a strike and doesn't allow the strike to travel, say to your electrical system or to the metal trusses you have in your house. Yes what you are installing is supposed to save your electrical system. With the lightning rods you run a copper wire from one rod [one rod on one pike to another rod on the opposite pike and then to the ground so a lightning strike is directed to the ground. It will divert the strike from the roof and not to have the ability to travel to the metal trusses inside and to someone if they are close to a truss. I hope that I explained what they do. Something that is not to expensive [mostly a length of copper wire] something to consider for the future. the only reason why I ask is because I saw several times where you quit working on your house do to storms and lightning in the distance. No reply neccessary. Just giving you something that you might want to consider. I am remodeling my kitchen [paint, cabinets, laminate flooring]. You may want to watch: so that's how you do that, on UA-cam. The guy shows how to install laminate flooring and a bunch of tips and tricks on installation. Really informative. Best videos I think on installation
Appreciate the information
Hi Andrew! I learned the same issue you have…Paint at a Sherwin Williams store is different than the line to what Lowes sells. The SW store paint is suppose to be a bit better that the line that Lowes sells. I had a situation as you and found color variation between same ID numbers from the respective stores. I do not know where the SW paint came from for your storm shelter, perhaps a SW store? Maybe you are experiencing the same issue. Sorry to hear of your painful experience. Perhaps paint the shelter the same as the house as mentioned below. Your progress is looking great!
That is somewhat correct, we found the issue after going back to Lowe's. I'll explain soon.
Take what's left of the five-gallon from Lowe's to SW and see if they can re-tint it to match. Tinting from different suppliers rarely match, even if they have the same color codes. Purchase all you paints from one supplier that use the same tinting system.
We just went to Lowe's and found the problem. I'll explain soon
Andrew, gray as colour choice has some fascinating psychological aspects according to Swiss psychologist Lűscher who formulated the Luscher Colour Test... May be of interest over a beer. So enjoying your awesome build... heroic and fun to watch.
The colors are definitely way different and I think you should have no problem getting replacement paint. But... I like the gray on the house.
We don't hate it, but we really want all our buildings to match and much prefer the other gray color.
@@TKCL yeah, I like the other color better too. After a month you'll probably never notice it again, but it might be worth a couple days work to eliminate the chance of it bothering you for years.
It would appear that the mixing person took the color dye #'s and proportions from the one gallon can and put in in a five gallon can of base white. Hence you have a five gallon bucket of base white with the same amount of dye the one gallon can has. Results = your five gallon paint is one about 75% lighter.
We just went to Lowe's and found the true root of the problem. I'll explain soon
Hey buddy I'm with you about painting i hate to i will more on me than what I'm trying to paint but on another note you will get figured out and solve your problem don't let eat away at you and your wife and lose sleep your doing a wonderful job and you always do just look at the storm shelter. And great buck by the way pretty sure that was not on film how fast it happen.
Sadly not on film, wasn't expecting that at all. But I'm very thankful for the meat.
@@TKCL i agree meat in the freezer is a good thing.
So sorry:((( Than whatever you decide, make sure that you buy enough to paint entire house, so you don't end up with different colors on your walls! I pray it ends up well!
2 soulutions.
Paint storm shelter and shop same color as house
Put the new paint on 1/2 2x4 scrap and the old paint on rest of 2x4 and take to store manager to fix…. You may discover that side by side it is same or slightly lighter
It's definitely different, we just went to Lowe's and found the problem. I'll explain soon
@@TKCL after you do the 2 colors samples on board take it to them to color match ….. see what is different in the 2 samples vs the formula on the can label
Whatever the resolution is I hope no extra money needs to come out of your pocket. The dark gray is much more attractive.
That shed also has a year of baking in the sun...impossible to match.
9 months and it should be perfectly fine to match the original color since I have the mix code. FYI the shed is far darker than the house, even after being in the sun. There is a significant difference in person. The house has a blueish tint to it, where as the shelter has a earthy brown tint with the gray.
ITS ALL IN YA HEAD DUDE.
IT LOOKS GREAT
Naaa it's a significant difference in color when seeing it in person.
@@TKCL yep.
Hey Andrew your doing great Im building too and I like beige and browns and the builder put grey tile in the master...and I have pictures of what I ordered ...so this will hopefully work out for us both...hang in there You are doing great...
Thank you very much
Lowes is usually pretty good about stuff like that, I think if you say the colors didn’t match they will replace your paint good luck ! Paint a piece of scrap siding with the first paint and take it with you so you can compare it to the new mix while still in the store then they can adjust the mix before you leave.
We went back and found the real problem, video out soon
It's one of those things that would bother me to no end but one thing I've learned in my years is when to say it's good enough. In general I'm a perfectionist but I also recognize that not everyone is. So in places that tend to make my spine creep I have to think about what others will notice without being told and then just let it go. In this case I think I'd just reshoot the shelter with the slightly more grey color and move on to other things. But I do feel your pain here.
Also anytime I have to work with the really thick paint and a sprayer I use Flood Floetrol. Makes a big difference in how it goes on, fewer drips, finer mist.
Well the problem with that is my big metal shop is also the same color. So it would drive me crazy seeing different shades.
Definitely like the white trim on the gray. Bummer the gray is a shade off though. I’m sure everything will work out for you
Thank you, we just went to Lowe's and found the problem. I'll explain in a upcoming episode
I must say I like this color. No you're not to blame. What you say is the truth, but I do like this color 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
The earthy tone in the other paint is just perfect, hard to describe it.
Betcha nobody would notice until you brought it up
You definitely do in person, camera doesn't do it justice.
👍
I think they will work with you, I know ours will! Take the sample in with you and show them the difference!! I would paint the smaller building to match, instead of redoing the big building, but and that is a big but, knowing how you are with your OCD you better get the right color and paint the house, or you will not be happy!! Well good luck, I think it looks great either way.
We love the other color and want it right, we just went back and found the problem. Video out soon!
SW does color match guaranteed it gets messed up sometimes unfortunately.
We went back and found the problem, I'll explain soon.
Just repaint the Shed, but remember that the Shed Paint is what they call
"Weathered".
Won't do it, we spent a lot of time matching the shed paint to the metal building we have. We want the house to match as well.
Oh yes they will! Contact Sherwin Williams they will make it right!
We just went to Lowe's and found the true root of the problem. I'll explain in a upcoming episode.
It still looks great. It's not worth the aggravation leave it the way it is.
I'm sorry Andrew 🤔that sort of thing happens when they color batch paint. Most of the time when that happens, they run out of the darker pigments that somebody has overlooked in the mixing process. Lowe's should make it right for you but they won't cover your time. Keep up the great work 👍👍
We went back to Lowe's and found the problem, I'll explain soon.
I could tell it was very windy. Half of your paint flew away 😂 Great job though !
LOL yes it did!
Sherwin Williams, we cover the world because we can't match it! I knew what your problem was going to be as soon as you said Sherwin Williams.
LOL we actually found the problem, I'll explain soon.
the Sherwin-Williams HGTV paint that low sells is not a line of Sherwin-Williams paint that they sell at the Sherwin-Williams store
Bingo! You nailed it, but they also mix both at Lowes.
I would take all three containers back in when going to speak with the manager...that way you can SHOW them that the sample & gallon are correct and is NOT the same color.
Maybe the "visual aids" will help convince the manager that this is not what you paid for...that a remix would be appreciated especially considering you have to reapply it.
Maybe remind them that you have spent tens of thousands of dollars at their store...and any future business dealing with them is riding on what happens now.
This, as they say, is a Deal Breaker event.
We just did that and found the problem. I'll explain soon
I would think that Lowes will make this right. I agree with you that there was no way to tell until the paint had dried, about the only thing you could have done is paint a test spot in the storm shelter, and wait a day for it to dry... that takes too much of your valuable time.
We went back to Lowe's and found the true root of the problem. I'll explain in a upcoming episode
Just my $.02 but I like the color on the house better. :)
I would rather get a root canal than paint.
Lol I'm almost there with you. But doing my entire house inside and out will save me thousands.
You know, I realize this is frustrating, but it’s not like they are adjoining tHe other buildings. I’ve heard from a LOT of painters that say that batches can always be slightly “off” from one run to the next and to buy as much or more than you might need for the ENTIRE project. Another thing to consider is the scale your working on. When you painted your storm shelter that was a year ago, that paint has aged in the sun that entire time. It is GOING to be a different shade. The only way I know of how to get everything to look EXACTLY the same is to: 1. paint it all white, 2. Paint everything at once with your custom color.
They may have changed manufacturers of that shade of Gray, and it’s slightly off, or it just may meet to “age” a while.
Bottom line: you roll the dice painting custom colors. Not every batch will be exact, in fact, the last time I bought a lot of paint from a Sherwin Williams “store” (NOT LOWES), they actually warned me of this potential issue. Does it suck any less, probably not, but I just wanted to impart some of the knowledge I’ve gained over the years of painting 4 homes that I’ve owned, inside and out. I actually “enjoy” painting, The end result is satisfying to me in some weird way LOL. But I know I’m a minority here as well. HOPE THIS HELPS!
The shelter still matches the original paint samples and is not sun washed. We went to Lowe's and found the problem, I'll explain soon.
Hopefully you'll get it straightened out. I can't understand your frustration.
Maybe the yellow undercoat is just shaded maybe
Same exact yellow siding on the shelter. We found the problem, I'll explain soon.
Ever do a review on your paint sprayer?
Never have, I've had it for 12-15 years probably. They still make this model too
Go to Sherwin Williams. The Lowe’s Sherwin Williams paint is not the same. I had to return 10 gallons of custom mixed flat latex that looked like semi gloss when applied. The can said flat but it had a definite shine to it. I took a video of the different sheen on the wall and he agreed something was wrong. Got a refund and went to a Sherwin Williams store.
We went back and found the problem, I'll explain soon.
If that's the worst "BIG problem" of this build... you'll have had a Super Easy build! I bet Lowe's will mix you 10 new gallons and not charge you a nickel. If by chance Lowe's tells you no... just paint the storm shelter with the new paint and they'll both match... not a big deal in the grand scheme of things! :-)
Contact there cooperate office ! I had do it about 7 years ago they had 2 different dyes but gave different effects once it was dry they had the stuff mixed at the factory & shipped me the replacement with a extra 5 gallons came fedex in 2 days !
We went back to Lowe's and found the problem. I'll explain in a upcoming episode
@@TKCL my guess they ether used the wrong base color or tint but hope they replaced it at there expense
We learned our lesson with big box stores mixing paint. We use our local hardware that has a man great at mixing paint. He fixed a Home Depot mess in a 5 gallon bucket. It was supposed to be barn red - it came out fuchsia. The local hardware was able to fix it. The paint became a vibrant barn red. The best part, the fix was no charge even though we didn't buy it there.
That's great customer service
@@TKCL That's how he earned our loyalty for as long as he's in business.
I'll bet the hardy board siding sucked up the paint big time.
I did do two coats, but it wasn't bad.
Take it back definitely argue they mixed it wrong
We did and found the problem, I'll explain soon.
I think it looks just as good as the shelter myself. I know the camera dont do it justice but its not that noticable to me. Its not a perfect but its painted and you can move on. I think the guys on this old house would approve...
You should get what you are paying for. They should give you the right paint. Go after them to replace and then some. So sorry. I'm getting ready to paint my house so knowing these things are important. I haven't gotten past picking the color. 😞
We just went to Lowe's and found the true root of the problem. I'll explain in a upcoming episode.
People take custom paint back to the store all the time. They will just put them on the discount/markdown rack. I always check that rack for nice colors and good brands that are marked way way down for chicken coops, dog houses, goats playground toys etc! lol. I have got nice colors in Behr Exterior paint and other similar brands, etc in 1 gal for as cheap as $4 and 5 gal as cheap as $10. Chickens and dogs dont care and it protects their coop/house.
That's great to know, I'll look myself for future animal pens.
Wow those colors are absolutely different I'm wondering if what happened is that the color pigments were not correct
We just went to Lowe's and found the true root of the problem. I'll explain soon
@@TKCL ok that is great news.

All as you do is complain. Maybe your house has faded from the sun. Happens. The weather (sun) has a big effect on paint color sitting over a year. After 6 months you won't be able to tell the difference. GOOD LUCK, LOOKS GOOD. PS, Paint the facia board, protects the wood. I know it's getting covered with aluminum. Paint it anyway ‼️‼️ Vinny 🇺🇸

That's exactly right, shelter has been painted for 9 months and is still darker. It's definitely a different paint mix.

Yep. I lost faith in Sherwin Williams. Stained our deck with Deck Scapes a few years back in Shagbark, used leftover for touch ups. Went back for another gallon this summer for more touch ups and it is a totally different shade. Much lighter.
Hate to hear that

Take the test can and the one gallon can and the 5 gallon can back. Explain to them that your brought them the test can and the 1 gallon and told them to match. The fact that it doesn’t is on them. They should have opened the other the 1 gallon and the 5 gallon and done a draw down sample from both to make sure it matched before it left the shop. The fact that it doesn’t is because they just assumed that the “Dorian Gray” was the same in all the mixes. They should refund and/or give you a new 5 gallons that does match.
We just went to Lowe's and found the true root of the problem. I'll explain soon
When the associate went to the computer to enter the formula it may be that he/she clicked on the wrong variation. It can be the same color name but there is always a list of different things and it will be different if they clicked the wrong line. I'd start with customer service desk and if they give you any grief I'd then ask to speak with the manager or an ASM. They can and do take back paint, all they do is slightly change the color and then sell it. If you are not happy I'd take it back.
We went back and found the real problem. I'll explain soon.
Painting is horrible. I agree on Sherwin-Williams though it’s worth the money. On cheap paint I have to do three or four coats sometimes. Especially if it’s on something absorbent even after you primer it or if it’s going over some weird color and some paints tend to bleed color in the new paint because they dissolve with it. I’m also a huge fan of oil based paint, it just works better and last longer no it’s incredibly messy so you have to mask everything to death because it’s very hard to clean up but that makes it good for paint because it’s not gonna wear out as fast either.
That sprayer works pretty good and I like how you can just dip it in the bucket. I had an old Wagner power painter pro, it was similar in size and it works great but you had to pour the paint into the Wagner‘s paint tray bucket and it didn’t hold that much, maybe 1 gallon and you had to add another bottle of something that send it out so it would spray properly. I did the outside and inside of a three bedroom house and I was very thankful for it but the cleanup was a bit much. That hose hook up is nice also. I just had to dump the mineral spirits into it and just keep spraying till it came out clean. Lol. That one looks like a better design. It looks great. I do see what you’re saying about the color difference and it does look better on the shed. That’s pretty annoying. That happened on one of our cans of ceiling paint and it should’ve been pre-mix but one was just darker than the rest. :/ I definitely see the difference towards the end of your video, the shed looks like nice painted wood to where the house looks more like vinyl siding with the paint color. It might be because of the service your painting, maybe the wood absorbs it differently but after another coat it should the balanced out and if that was the case you would have some money even spots. It definitely seems like they got it wrong. :/
The good thing from Lowe’s is they will redo it even after you use it, I’ve done it before. You can’t replace your time and it is what it is but Lowes should replace the paint, Lowes and Home Depot have always been really good about that.
This morning I got up early because they were supposed to come finish the last two rooms of the carpet install which of course are my rooms and but we did around tell about an hour after you were supposed to be here and then started calling and apparently they just can’t get a hold of the guy, again. This is the third time maybe they’re called in or just didn’t bother to show up. I don’t know who’s running these businesses but this seems pretty common nowadays. When I was working construction this would’ve gotten people fired. Lol I guess the worlds change now you just have to suck it up and take what you get and live with it. 🙄
I’ll call you next time 😂😂
I've learned my lesson on cheap vs expensive paint. You always come out cheaper and with less work on better quality paint. We went back to Lowe's and found the problem, I'll explain soon.
@@TKCL yup. Along time ago I was painting my office and my boss said to get the Sherwin-Williams girl and I thought he was crazy because I always bought cheap paint but it rolled on easy it covered so fast and one coat was all I needed. It took me a quarter of the time it would take me to use cheap paint because I would’ve had to do at least two coats end it just doesn’t stick to the wall the same. You just have to keep moving the roller on cheap paint end it will get there eventually butDo you think you’re saving money but you’re using twice the paint and when you factor your labor in, you’re really not saving anything
i have a question for you??? you have to have to same brand of paint and the exact same machine if you buy more, all machines are calibrated slightly different. I worked a Sherwin Williams for almost ten years. Two exact same paints shot by different tinting machines look slightly different. One store shoots a slight variation over another. Did yall do any of these issues i talked about. i'd just repaint the shed same as house and call it good. I ALWAYS mix new paint into my depleting stock that way if it is slightly different the variation will be spread out and not noticeable interior or exterior saved me alot of headache over the years.
We went back to Lowe's and found the real problem. I'll explain soon
You said no one was going to see the side you just painted...paint the other side the color you wanted! People can only see one side of the house at a time!
Ohh no, that would drive me crazy!
Im sorry that happened to yall, for sure complain, if the store manager doesn't help you, then take it up to lowes.. I had the very same thing happen on a rental of mine. I paint all my rentals the same color so I don't have to keep track of different colors. Well... when i went to paint a wall that was repaired, it didn't match the rest of the house... I went back and the store wouldn't change anything or refund me... so i went to the district manager over it and he gave me store credit, which i bought new paint with.
We went back and found the problem, I'll explain soon.
My TV must be whacked... I couldn't see a difference, but I'm sure your eyes ain't gone bad. Any chance the paint on the storm shelter has "weathered" to the shade that it appears to be now, and that your house would match after a year or two? I wouldn't think high quality paint would do that, but I could see some Lowe's employee using that excuse. I agree with the "paint the shelter to match house" opinion below.
No because weathered usually lightens paint up, the shelter is quite a bit darker and has a earthy tone to it. The house is lighter and almost has a blueish tone.
To me it looks like the yellow from the siding is bleeding through, but the 2nd coat should have corrected that. That color looks like it has more of a green than a gray. It will bug you forever if it's not right even if you paint the shelter to match.
That's the suns reflection. It actually has a weird blueish tint that we do not like.
Grey's are nearly impossible colors to duplicate, especially with different stores. Luckily you need it a tad darker, they can always add to what you already have to get it closer. they usually have a pretty liberal return policy on improperly colored paint. Talk to Lowes and see, but i bet the only thing you've lost is time on this one.
We just went back and found the problem, I'll explain soon.
Your paint will change color as it ages! You can use the leftover paint and repaint a section and you will see a difference, also you only have one coat of paint on the house how many coats on the shelter? Expecting one coat paint to work on unpainted surfaces is wishful thinking lol! I've done 10 coats of 1 coat paint before trying to save a buck using cheap paint. Wait till you paint your drywall you will really have fun!
I have two coats on the house now. The storm shelter still matches the paint samples that I have and is darker, not lighter than the house.
@@TKCL I abbbssooooluuuuteeelyyy hate painting!!!🤮🤮🤮
Definitely try and get new paint or refund if not satisfied. It will always stick in your crawl that you didn't get the right color.
Yes I have to get it right or it will bother me forever.
also how long ago did you have the one gallon mixed if I may ask
9 months ago
Could it be because the siding is yellow?
Same exact siding is on the storm shelter.
No reason Lowe's or at least Sherman Williams won't make it right. Lowes has a 100% satisfaction garrentee. It's just paint, they are responsible for the mix. In all fairness the first gallon on the storm shelter may have been the one " off". Just a personal prefrance but I think Black trim would look better with the gray than white. From a distance you can't even see the trim difference. You be you man, I would also paint the facia board even thought your cover it with metal trim. Black gutters, black trim with the gray walls.
Andrew and Tiffany really I think the colour is fine, mind you that’s seeing it on a tv screen. Andrew that’s so much work for you to redo it. Give it a second thought but I think it looks just fine. I hope it all works out for you guys. Take care. 🇨🇦
The camera doesn't show the true difference.
