Beyond All Reason! Good lord. It's amazing, but it will ruin you for other RTS games. 1) The flanking damage mechanic is brilliant and mean that positioning matters all the time. You can micro weaker faster units to do near double damage on slower units and buildings if you have map control or manage to breach enemy lines. 2) It tries to be as transparent as it can be with its information. There's no memorization and guesstimation of "how many workers" "what am I building" "what is my income exactly" etc because the game straight up tells you its state at a glance. How many resources in wrecks in a map area? Zoom out. It'll faintly outline the area and give you a number. It's magic. 3) UNLIMITED ZOOM LEVELS. Mousewheel for instant game-state overview. Zoom back in for your micro nerdery. 4) The unit command features have some incredibly intuitive that these old-school RTS designers NEED TO PAY SERIOUS ATTENTION TO. You paint a formation for your army BY DRAGGING YOUR MOVE COMMAND. How did no one else think of that for twenty five years since Dune II released??? 5) The command queue is malleable in a away that is impossible to unthink once you get used to it. What do you mean, in your RTS game I can't insert a command at the start of the queue by holding SPACE instead of SHIFT? No "repeat entire queue" toggle!? What is this, 2022??? 6) Build queue. Has. Repeat. Button. And. Insert. To. Front. The QoL features come down to it bein open source. It encourages user writing interface widgets - as long as players make them available to otheres. "Hacking" this game's interface isn't cheating, it's community service. Anything any player can think of in terms of improved usability they can also probably slap together as a LUA script with a bit of elbow grease and it'll eventually make it into the official release once it makes it to someone with coding experience who finds it useful and will iron out the wrinkles.
Watching you play Beyond All Reason would actually be exciting for me :-) I've been playing it for a few weeks now and I still feel like a baby. It might be my incompetence or the complexity of the game. I would be interested to know how you cope with that.

We're at the point the vast majority of the game and the assets will not be changing. That's simply fact and doesn't represent any issue or complaint about the game.
Beyond all reason is an experience and is more often than not beyond reasoning. Playing it with brother and all of the games contain emotional highs and lows :D Would love to watch content for it :)

I think i understand the brute split at the start of the 2nd game: rushing doggos with their upgrade for early agression is a potent strat mainly because the infernal doesn't have great scouting options. Splitting the brute this way, vanguard will be very tempted to fight it with the dogs, which reveals the situation and gives the infernal more time to build a shroudstone. With the shroudstone on, the doggo push is pretty much done, which gives the infernal much room instead of having to temporize the doggos while the shroudtone is building Just my interpretation, i might be completely wrong though
been playing the beta, try going a fast expand build instead of barracks first, pull 8 workers to mass build a fast expo at 350 luminite! then you go for a few barraks after and mass bio

For how much pride the game takes in bettering the UI, they still won't just place your buildings at the closest possible distance to resources if you just place your cursor to it closer than the nearest possible location. It's so fiddly this way.

I just cannot fathom how you spend so much time developing a game - one that looks mechanically decent at the very least - and not realise that the design is so utterly devoid of character. What about this is supposed to appeal to people, other than hardcore RTS fans? Feels like such a waste of what might be a good game, hidden under a completely uninspired exterior.
It comes down to poor leadership with a lack of creative vision. It's really quite sad because I can imagine Stormgate being used as a reason for future RTS games not to get funded.
