Nikon D5600 vs D3400 - Best Cheap Beginner Nikon DSLR Hey whats up everyone, my names Chris Winter and in this video I’m going to go over some of the key differences between the brand new Nikon D5600 and the Nikon D3400 so you can choose which camera will be best for you.
1) LCD Screen
So let’s get started by taking a look at the LCD Screens on both of these cameras and this is where you’ll notice the first difference.
One of the big features on the Nikon D5600 is it’s articulating screen, which essentially means it can twist up down and also to the front.
The D3400 on the other hand has a fixed screen. It’s a good screen but the D5600’s is more versatile.
It really allows you to get great composition not matter if your camera is up, down or even if you’re filming yourself.
2) Battery Life
So when the Nikon D3400 came out just a few months ago, one of the great feartures I found on it was it’s awesome battery life.
In my testing I was able to get around 1200 to 1300 shots on the D3400 which is more than a full day of shooting generally.
Although the D5600 is the bigger brother to the D3400, it’s battery life is actually not as good.
I was able to get about 500 shots on the D5600, so if you’re looking for great battery life, go for the D3400.
3) Touch Screen
Jumping back to the LCD screen for a second, one thing I didn’t mention before was that on the D5600, we have a touch screen.
If you’ve ever used one of these touch screens on a DSLR, you’ll know how useful they are.
They really allow you to fly through your menus or your photos a lot faster and it’s something that’s missing on the D3400.
It doesn’t really affect the quality of the photos you take but it does make it easier, which is something to think about.
4) Weight & Size
One thing that suprised me when I got in D5600 is just small it feels in your hand.
When I got hte D3400 a few months back, I was amazed at how compact it was, but to me the D5600 feels every smaller in the hand.
Going on weight, the D5600 is heavier, but if you’re looking for a camera to travel around with, the D5600 to me feels like a smaller and more compact camera although they’re both very light.
5) Focus Points
Not both cameras can shoot at a pretty impressive 5 frames per second which should be good for most occasions, but if you do want to shoot sports and wildlife, you’ll prbably want to go for the D5600. And that’s because it’s got 39 focus points to just 11 on the D3400.
For photography like portraits and landscape, theres going to be almost no difference, but when you need to hit that focus quickly and accurately, you’ll appreciate it the D5600.
6) Video (Timelapse)
One small feature that is on the D5600 that’s not on the D3400 is timelapse mode.
Rather than connecting an intervalomter to your camera to make a timelaspe, the D5600 now has it inbuilt which is a really cool feature.
If you’re not into making timelaspes it won’t be a big deal on the D3400, but if you do like to, it’s a nice feature.
7) Mic Port
And lastly, staying on the video side, one of the most important features on any camera for video is a mic jack, which is importantly included on the D5600.
Having an external microphone on your camera really can improve the audio quality, so if you know that you want to a lot of video, then the D5600 will be best bet for you.
So to me both of these cameras are fantastic for beginners to intermediates. To me I think you’ll be happy with either one of these that you choose.
