I fish the bayou & gulf of Louisiana all my life for reds & speckled trout . I can attest to the effectiveness of using just a plain shiny silver or gold spoon ! The key here is keeping your spoons to imitate your shad , shiners , or minnows as real as possible with some reflective mirror like image to get the fish attention ! Shiny Gold spoons work best on sunny days and silver spoons work best on cloudy days ! I use a red single hook or double hooks on the spoon to imitate an injure shad ! Single or double hook is prefer to insure a GUARANTEED hook set ! I use a 1/0 , 2/0 , 3/0 shorty hook depending on my game . It's the same hook use for live bait on my spoons . Do NOT use long hooks ! Keep your hooks short and close to the spoons as possible ! I found treble hook make it harder for a hook set due to the fish ability having to open it mouth wider and it's also a dead give away causing the fish to have a 2nd thought ! ..... Remember : presentation will be the key here with lite line & set up . I use a Palomar knot on everything . I use a Palomar uni on the spoons to give it more action ! Mono line work best in all weather and water condition to remain invisible . .... REMEMBER : any color added to your spoon will NOT reflect to draw attention and will not be noticeable ! ..... HOPE THIS HELP ? FISH ON !
Thanks for the tips, good stuff. Plain gold and silver will also work up here on Lake Ontario for trout and salmon, but certain color patterns definitely are hot at times. Glow paint and tape patterns are often very effective up here when fishing at night, or in low light conditions. When trolling up here, we are often fishing 80 to 100 ft. down trolling with downriggers.
Someone commented hear yesterday asking about the vice I use in this video but now I can't seem to find the comment for some reason. I'm out of town surf fishing the Jersey Shore for a week, but I will post the model # when I get back.
Most of the big time spoon manufacturers will sell you blanks if you contact them. Alot of the spoons I tape are just old ones that I strip down and paint.
Most of the tape I have is made by Witchcraft Tape. They manufacture lure tape in a huge variety of colors. Not sure what the exact name of those colors are though. I've accumulated alot of it over the years just buying some here and there at random tackle shops. It's also available online.
Ace job. Thanks tons 4 the instruction!

When do you buy all your stickers from?
Mostly from local tackle shops in my area, but all my tape is made by WTP.
Great vid,you think that would work on dodgers and flashers
Yes, I definitely think it would. The key is having a clean surface and using heat. That really makes the tape adhere well to any metal surface.
Great ill give it a try
Thankyou
Yep. Great winter project, i do all my spoons this way!
Where do you get your tape
What is the brand name of the tape?
Witchcraft tape products
Were do you get the blank spoons from
Most of the big time spoon manufacturers will sell you blanks if you contact them. Alot of the spoons I tape are just old ones that I strip down and paint.
Do you get the tape at hobby lobby
No, I usually buy it from the local tackle shops here along Lake Ontario. It's made by a company called Witchcraft. You can also get it online.
What is that tape called?
Who ever liked this comment, and is wondering what it’s called, I figured it out, it’s prism tape. 👍
