J-PLUGGIN FOR STAGERS, Reaction Strikes from Lockjaw Kings

Hunting for staging kings on the south shore of Lake Ontario in mid September 2024. Primarily looking for egg-laden females for skein and sacs before the fish hit the creeks. When the fish just aren't in the mood to bite, plugs on the riggers can get you some reaction strikes as you'll see in the vid. It's been a really slow start to the salmon run on the south shore. Warm weather and water tem...

BIG TUBE JIGS FOR MONSTER LAKERS, Stannard Rock
Переглядів 3534 місяці тому
July 2024 trip to Stannard Rock on Lake Superior to jig for big lakers. We sailed out of Lac La Belle, MI and ran about 35 miles to get to the rock. We had two days of good weather and managed to land a bunch of lakers on a variety of baits, but the 5 1/2 musky tubes on a 2 oz. head in 60-70 feet of water seemed to be the ticket for both numbers and size.

HOTTEST KING SPOON OF THE YEAR, 2024 Moonshine Catching Every Fish

2024 has been an awesome year for kings on the Lake Ontario south shore. The fish showed up early and have hung around well into the summer in high numbers making for some epic trips. While the fishing has been easy, one Moonshine spoon in particular has been hot for me, catching big king after big king. The day I filmed this video, we couldn't keep it down. 🔥 HIT ME UP IN COMMENTS AND SHARE YO...

SMALL BOAT, BIG WATER, BIG KINGS

South Shore Lake Ontario spring king fishing at it's best. Late April, stiff west wind, 53 degree water temps, 50 - 60 fow. It was too rough to troll upwind so we went for the one way downwind glory troll. Stinger Stingray spoons in "Pickle Seed" and "Green Gator" were good on Chinook Divers and shallow riggers.

DUEL HARDCORE MINNOW 95F, Best Trib Bite of the Year
Just got one and cannot get it to pop up for the life of me.
I love the jerkbait for trib trout concept....I gotta try it (and I share in the jerkbait obsession too) nice video
It's my favorite way to fish for them. Love feeling them smack the lure. Jerkbaits with good action on a steady retrieve in the 80 - 95 mm range work best for me.
@@MudSharkZ I spent many years fly fishing /tying for LO trib fish especially on the Salmon River...but more recently got back into bass fishing... and thats where the jerkbait passion into play.
Good on you to try methods other than the float/roe/bead business and have solid results 👍
The stickbaits can be pretty effective, even in the dead of winter. Thanks for watchin, appreciate it 👊
I would give a left toe to be out on a creek. Nice brown! I don't want to know your location, but I can't find the reg that says I can fish trout anywhere right now. I'm trying to start trouble with this question. I want to get on some browns.
I'm on the Lake Ontario tribs this time of year. Lots of browns and steelies to be had.
Sand Turtles here in Hawaii.
Do you use them for bait there?
Embrace the Chaos!! One of the most interesting fishing trips I've had!
were abouts in Ontario you boys fishn.
We mostly fish the south shore Lake Ontario tribs in NY between Buffalo and Sodus Bay.
You are the man ! Great catch! 🎉
Thanks for watching, happy New Year! 👊
Do you guys ever using roe bags in this time of year?
Yes, row bags or jigs under a float work well. I just have more fun catching them on the stick baits if they're willing to chase.
What kind of a bait are you using?
Duo Realis 85F jerkbait. They can be tough to find, most of my favorites are made in Japan.
Sharpen your hooks!
They're sharp, think I just caught a couple of them in the cheek and it popped when they got close.
Nice stickbait browns! White in murky water always works! Good job man! Fish on!
Thanks for watching 👊 I love those little Duo Realis baits, wish they weren't so tough to find in the good colors.
nice vid dude!
@@theastuteangler Thanks for watching 👊
keep em in the water
I handle browns all day at my day job so I know how to keep them alive. Those fish are fine 100%.
Great vid man and had to subscribe to ya. Was thinking about hitting the streams for the browns locally again but never used jerk baits for trout gonna have to try it out.
@@chaoticpinktacos4211 It's a really fun way to fish for them, nice change from float fishing. Really cool feeling them smash it tight line. Baits between 80 to 95 mm work best for me.
That was a great day out in the water. Considering the cold water temps, you got them to chase. Need to try that too, nice to get them in the hard baits.
Took me an hour to thaw out but yeah it was fun. Tight lines and happy new year.
Hahaha!! What a mess
Total chaos but a blast. Happy new year brotha.
Man o man. Reminds me of salmon season in WNY. That’s insane. Nice catches man but I would not enjoy being crowded with a bunch of guys and lines crossing all over.
Yeah I grew up working on the walleye party boats on Lake Erie so I've always loved the party boat trips but it's definitely not for everyone 😅
Thank you so much
@@brianmelgoza9292 Thanks for watching, happy taping! 👊
Gorgeous fish, love the video
@@kingchaser-c4t Thanks man, it was a great fight 👊
Does it stay pretty warm in sub zero temps?
We don't get much for subzero temps here in Western NY, but as long as it's not windy it stats pretty warm. They do also make an insulated version.
Been using your tips here for the past year… and they work great! Thanks a lot for showing the proper way to deal with non-lead round split shot
@@nathancallan9376 Awesome glad you found the video useful and hopefully it's saving you some money as well. Tight lines 👊
waiting to get one on sale. they want 185 dollars for it now! Anything to get out of that dang wind though right! I can stand the cold but the constant wind is what gets me.
Yeah I hear ya, some days that wind eats you up. You can keep it pretty warm in there with the buddy heater even on the windy days. I'm just hoping for more than one or two weeks of ice this year. Last two years we haven't had much ice here in Western NY.
@@MudSharkZ yep same here (Eastern, Washington state) . We had about 3 weeks decent ice, then it was still thick enough but the slush was so thick it was like standing in a puddle lol
Thanks for the tip im going to have to give them a try thanks for sharing my friend 😊
Custom Glow Rapala J13...killer on Kings on Lake Ontario Canadian side
Are you painting them yourself or is someone else? Curious if they are available for purchase because I've never stumbled across them.
@@MudSharkZ I paint them long time custom painter...I can send you pics...
Great tips and tricks. Will try to find some of those bandits.
I think you will like them, they cast great and get a lot of bites when the suns up. Thanks for watching 👊
Is there near rochester?
Yes, in that general area.
Excellent action, thanks for the tips!!!!!!
Ever come across a puzzle face king fish? Pretty knarly
Nope, can't say I have. Where you catch them?
Max! Get those seagulls. Good fishing.
Oh, he wanted to 😂
It’s always harder to get those stagers to bite. They usually get cranky and don’t want to be bothered. At least you got into a couple, well done guys.
I think we were lucky to catch the two we did, pretty tough bite lately. Thanks for watchin.
where you guys fishing close to watkins glen or ?
@@davesmith7440 No not in this video, but I'm sure you could get some around there when the water cools off. Around 60 degrees water temp seems to be when they get very active in the fall.
Sandy creek?
@@YxngLeeJ No, west of there a ways.
Looked like you guys figured it out quickly. Nice looking lakers, great eaters.
It was definitely different to see all those aggressive lakers high in the water column. Looking forward to watching your pier fishing video before bed tonight, good stuff. 👊
Nice your video bro
👊
We ain’t ranger status but do well in the $9000 16.5ft sylvan with a new 90 merc on it. White trash style
@@derekmcdevitt9491 Hell yeah, the guys that one it last year were in a ski boat with a trolling motor so it don't take a fancy boat.
@@derekmcdevitt9491 Text me some time man, I still have the same number. We should hook up when I come back to ohio.
Any of you folk doing fall brawl. Pretty sure buddy and I are. Not going to Cleveland though going to do our fishing out of mazuricks
@@derekmcdevitt9491 The Newmister boys are in it every year fishing on the Ranger. I haven't gotten in it myself yet, always too busy chasing trout and salmon around.
Nice job! I love catching kingfish. They're very small but they're fun. If I have two rods I will cut one up, use a bigger hook and get it way out there. I've caught shark that way.
Good tip 👊 I also love trying for the sharks. This year the surf was very cold when I was there so there weren't many Brown sharks around. I did try one night anyway and got skunked.
Way to go on catching some nice fish 🐟 👌 👍 are the salmon staging yet close to the piers yet in new york????
2 days of northeast wind here now which is exactly what we needed to cool the water down. Gonna hit the pier tomorrow night for the first time I think. I heard there are a few fish in the river already so it should be time.
Nice fishing boys!!
Thanks Jimbo 🧡 Many Busch lights were sacrificed.
Winter flounder looked small
@@letsgomets002 They only had to be 12" to keep from what I remember. They don't get as big as the fluke.
So we recently went out with these guys and chartered the whole boat with a group of our Asian Friends. There wasn't ANY fish put back that was of legal length. We limited on Walleye, Perch, And caught and kept multiple Drum and White Perch. There wasn't any empty cooler space when he got back to the dock. And Yes, I tried the "Sheep Head" And it was actually a lot better than i thought it was going to be. Now im not going to go out and target them. But we will save them in our future trips for our friends. Just gut them and frezze them, They'll do the rest
@@Pyle81 I've never tried the white perch or drum but I would definitely try them if someone cooked or smoked them up for me. Sounds like you guys had a great trip. I just released another video on that boat from about a month ago if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/7jRkYlSJSew/v-deo.html
The Irish Sinker!!! I know you remember our trip back in the day! Lol
Hell yeah, you need to meet me over in PC some time so we can go out.
can you do this without the water and ice and just the baking soda and salt? thanks
You can, but I've tried it both ways and I think the water method gives you better baits.
@@MudSharkZ alright, appreciate the response
Cheers man very clever thanks for your tips
Thanks for watching and commenting 👊
That ...flounder ...short
That was a winter flounder not a fluke, so it was well over the size limit.
10 oz.....for porgies ???? ...no way
Thanks for the wisdom buddy! I'm new to surfcasting and you taught me something.
