The 2 gentlemen were the best customers! People who can laugh it off & see the humor in things are so much more likeable than the entitled, short-fused customers.
The oriental lady was really funny because she wasn't getting the idea of being on candid camera. The gentlemen and the other ladies were real

I would hardly call the short-fused customers entitled from what we see in the video but their reaction was funny to watch.

Back in 80’s, I ate at a famous bbq joint in Lockhart, Texas. The knives were chained to the tables, for real.

Yes. I was thinking that you can tell this is old. Years ago people would just go along with something like this and try to make the best of it--try not to rock the boat. Today, people would throw a fit and start swearing and shouting threats. This wouldn't be a FUNNY video if this was done today.
It certainly wouldn’t be funny if a millennial sat down at the table. There’d be lawsuits for offending them.

Sadly,. the wonderful restaurant and the iconic Sportsman's Lodge is being torn down. I remember pop taking me there and watch all the fish in the garden ponds, eat at the excellent restaurant there and play again in the gardens. This video is a tribute to a legend in the San Fernando Valley since I was just a young boy and I'm 67 now. Thanks Peter for reviving an old classic and giving it a great sendoff with your prank video.

Reminds me of my mother in law who past this year,she was 94. When she would come down and visit from Ohio,every time we ate out she would take all the silverware off the table and when we got home she would wash it and put it in my drawer! I didn't realise that she was doing that for awhile! Just was wondering why I had so many knives,forks and spoons! RIP ma💗

Notice how the older ladies crabbed, but the older men made it fun.
But the one doing most of the complaining was a good sport after finding out it was candid camera. She really laughed about it then.

Besides this show, I watch “Gags Just for Laughs,” from Quebec, Canada which is also hilarious watching the people’s faces and how they react to different pranks. Yet another excellent Candid Camera production. If I was one of the producers I would have done only two things differently.
Suppose one of the customers asked for a set of silverware that wasn't chained to the table. The waiter would then mention that such a thing would require an immediate advance cash (not credit) deposit from the customer for collateral. Tentatively speaking I would say $30.
Also, the producers could have had each piece of silverware hooked up to both a chain and a mini padlock underneath the table. The waiter could the more easily explain to the customers how the silverware was sent to the wash after meals.
I know it's just a prank but if I saw the silverware chained to the table I would get up & walk right out of there.

I don't know who steals this kind of thing, but fyi no restaurant has actual silver except a few ones where you won't come anyway.
Nowadays they do this in the airport with the steak knives so that you can't steal them from the restaurant and bring them on your plane.
