The more I watch Key and Peele, the more I feel like their genius is underrated. These fellows are not only innovative in their comedy, and the writers of course deserve much credit as well, but their ability to act out their characters is quite impressive.
@@TacticalReligion I don't think that has anything to do with their being underrated as actors. I mean, I sure hope that wouldn't be the case, and I just don't see how. I think it's primarily due to the fact that they do not venture into other roles that could highlight their potential, like serious acting roles, you know? There are a plethora of Black actors whose talents are lauded by virtually everyone who has an eye for great acting. I don't think anyone can deny that Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, are as great as any other actor ever when it comes to portraying other people on the big screen. Samuel L. Jackson is another phenomenal actor, in my opinion, even though his range isn't as diverse as the abovementioned men. Sidney Poitier was a great actor. I think Chadwick Boseman was an actor who was definitely on the path to greatness as well. Another actor whom is awesome in everything he plays in is Djimon Hounsou, phenomenal actor. Vin Diesel is another actor whose talents are obviously known, but not as much as I think they should be, I believe. His portrayal of Jackie DiNorscio, the middle-aged, over-weight, Italian gangster in, "Find Me Guilty" is oscar worthy, in my opinion, but a lot of people never watched it because it wasn't a big budget Hollywood production. Will Smith is another incredibly talented actor. He doesn't have a bad acting role. He's just naturally talented. I tell you who is an overrated actor, who happens to be Black, not that skin color has anything to do with it. I think Dwayne Johnson is a mediocre actor at best, but he is huge, has a good screen presence, and still has some pretty good movies, even though I don't think he can act very well, or at least as well as his movies draw in revenue. If he wasn't "The Rock", he wouldn't get a role. I mean, it's pretty bad when "Moana" is the best acting he has ever done...haha. Regardless, both Johnson and Diesel are both pretty close to being billionaires, and they deserve to be. I don't think skin color has anything to do with it. Not in this day and age.
Yes, I don't think this is a good example of innovation. Fry and Laurie, Jaujarana and Les Luthiers have pretty much the same sketch, they don't all do it with French but with English, Greek and French respectively.
How the hell are they underrated? They got millions of views. Millions of subscribers and viewership around the globe. I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "underrated" should we hang a picture of them in Mecca and worship them?
When you order the "Bouillinade avec lotte a l'imperatrice et cotriade buerre-blanc"...but you pronounce it wrong and get a tennis shoe sautéed in dog poop with a side of lawn clippings. And a dirty ashtray filled with butter as your starter....
They say some french words. But in the end it means nothing like "de la matin" "loup de mer" (name of a fish) She says "poulet roti" (which is chicken)

I showed up 3 hours before my date and gave $20 bucks to a waiter to go over the menu & specials with me - crazy stuff you do when your 19 & really want to impress a pretty girl (whom I later married).
Terrence Klaverweide It worked but I didn’t pretend I knew French & after we ordered I confessed that I was nervous about the menu and that I came before our date to ensure I knew exactly what was on the menu - which impressed her (‘be prepared’).
@@inevitablecraftslab No it's not, them not speaking real french is part of the joke but the main joke is they are "fluent" in french and he can't say one word but acts like he can
My mom told me a story once about how she and her sisters as tweens were on vacation somewhere in the USA and were speaking fake French to each other to feel fancy. An actual French speaker addressed them in French and they all ran away. My aunt (the youngest) fell in the pool during egress and they didn't go back for her.
The best part is at the end he's literally making almost every nasal-y throaty sound you need for french, and he's doing it so perfectly, but still just not quite saying anything like he's so effing close and this is never not one of the funniest things I've ever seen😂
I also took French in high school and I was so lost in class everyday lol. My teacher was a bastard and only ever talked French. Refused to speak English.... I hated every second
Their hit rate was insane. How they were able to avoid releasing skits that fell short of expectations is wild. Every successful skit they dropped added pressure. To maintain the way they did for as long as they did is incredible. Especially since they set the bar so hi and were constantly having to compete with themselves
So true. I have never seen a Key & Peele sketch that I thought was truly not funny at all. As opposed to SNL where at least 1 in 3 sketches are unwatchable. The writing I think is what really makes the difference. SNL has cast members who are just as good as Key and Peele, but often they have crap to work with from the writers.
And how does it sound? I took French in secondary school form 1, dropped it in form 2. It didn't help that some of my classmates had learnt a bit of french in primary school, and the teacher barely used any English - those pupils shone while the rest of us flanked. You should hear me try scrap together a basic french sentence, I understand Peele's pains 😂😂
Mkurugenzi Mkuu well it sounds way less elegant and cute than I have been told it sounds like 😂 I feel kinda privileged for being a native french speaker because I think I wouldn’t have been brave enough to learn it if it wasn’t my mother language
He was definitely exaggerating it for the skit but I’m sure you can still get a feel for how it sounds to non-native speakers :) I’ll say that real French does sound nicer, though.

I was 18 and working in a Movenpick self service restaurant in Dusseldorf, colleagues came to fetch me to listen that kind of gibberish from a guy from a fancy couple willing to look even more fancy when loudly talking between them , it was like this precisely. I listened to it a while, bursted in laughing and went back hiding in the back kitchen. The rest of the crew laughed loudly too, they suspected the whole act but still had a doubt. Not so much comments from the couple who decided to eat elsewhere, for no apparent reason. Anke Neumann (the women colleague calling me), i still think of this day, 30 years later ^^. Danke fur diese lustig zeit mit dir !
@@totalannihilation9065 Nobody spoke proper French. Some words seemed right but the pronunciation was off, except for the man who was sitting (Peele?). He only uttered a few words and sounds but he had the best pronunciation of nasal vowels which Americans usually struggle with. I suspect he studied French. What they said was basically gibberish, with the lady being the most gibberish-ish of all. A native French speaker could never repeat any of the gibberish "dishes" listed by the waiter, in a sense they would be out-frenched as well. It sounds like French mostly because of the intonation.
It wouldn't have been as comical with real French as the actors exaggerated the sounds to put themselves at an unrealistic and comical level above him by making the French seem difficult and themselves seem as gurus when French is a more natural sounding language than this is reality.

Have you seen chapelles show?
Yes, I don't think this is a good example of innovation. Fry and Laurie, Jaujarana and Les Luthiers have pretty much the same sketch, they don't all do it with French but with English, Greek and French respectively.
After not being paid by Comedy Central, Dave Chapelle said "I gotta watch Key & Peele doin my show!" Hah!
How the hell are they underrated? They got millions of views. Millions of subscribers and viewership around the globe. I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "underrated" should we hang a picture of them in Mecca and worship them?

So true. I have never seen a Key & Peele sketch that I thought was truly not funny at all. As opposed to SNL where at least 1 in 3 sketches are unwatchable.
