DUPE QUEEN! Jen your dupe videos are the BEST on UA-cam. A lot of people make dupe videos and I find myself shaking my head because more often than not, they aren't really dupes. But I've bought so many that you've suggested (most recently the JOAH primer dupes for the YSL and Hourglass primers) and you weren't kidding, I can't tell the difference! Thank you for all your hard work and research, making sure we don't waste out money. You're an angel!✨✨👏👏

elf’s skincare is what completely turned my skin around! I used to have such dry skin on my face that using foundation brushes or any kind of powders were an absolute no but now, I can apply powders and use foundation brushes if I wish. The holy hydration cream is definitely holy grail status 🥰

You are in good company, there is a great channel called the Budget Dermatologist and she is a great teacher with great recommendations, many of which you cite here. Ever since I switched my routine to her suggestions 2 months ago, I see a big difference and have gotten 6 compliments on my skin which never happened before. Many of your dupes are her recs, so you have a doctor backing you up!
If you feel worried about pronouncing things in different languages, Google translate, and all the translation apps have an audio feature, where you can hear how to say it. Very useful and easy to find. I have have been speaking French for the past 64 years (I partly grew up in Provence)so I hope I can help.
    L’ Occitan= Lauks-ee-tahn (with the n very soft)
Maison= meh-zohn, with the n left in the back of the mouth, it is pronounced but it doesn’t get past the middle of your palate.
The French language is like the people who speak it, only half is said and it is very mysterious!
    Great video, thank you!

Elf has some great skincare with ceramides and peptides! Their Hydrating Primer Serum is an alternative for the Laneige Glowy Makeup Serum. I have both and can’t tell the difference. Forgot to add…I mix a couple drops of the elf serum to my EL double wear when my skin is feeling dry and it goes on beautifully 🙌🏻

Thank you, Jen, for telling the public right off the bat you can’t really dupe skincare. Even if you found two products, with the exact same ingredients, in the exact same order, we still don’t know the percentages of those ingredients. More importantly, we don’t know the formula of either product. And formula is King!

What a great series of dupes. Nice job and fantastic research, Jen. I, too, was hesitant to trust ELF with skin care but the hydration creams and cleansers are fantastic in my opinion. They aren’t too heavy or noticeably scented either. I just happened to be using the ELF melting balm when you were talking about it in this video. I would buy this by the bucket if they sold it that way, but I *think* you said that it isn’t scented. I have to disagree here…It is definitely scented heavily. It smells “clean” or like laundry to me and not perfumed, but it is scented enough to that I was afraid to get it near my eyes at first. The fragrance doesn’t bother my skin (normally, scented things do) and it doesn’t burn my eyes, but it is definitely very heavily scented. I order it 5-at-a-time and have it shipped to the house, so I am very familiar with the hydration line. LOL. Oooh. Also, I am pretty sure that Dr. Jart is Korean, not Japanese? I’d be VERY surprised if they collaborated on a skin care product, but I’ve been wrong before and I’ll be wrong again, so…Thanks for the great content!!!

Hi Jen, Dr. Dray says it is a myth that retinol makes skin more sun-sensitive. She says it actually boosts the skin’s defenses against UV rays and other assaults. But she does say we’re wasting our time and money on retinol if we don’t wear sunscreen every day.
I loved your makeup balm demo by the way!

    • @JenPhelps
      @JenPhelps  3 роки тому +1

Thank you so much Maureen! And it's true, Retinol by itself doesn't cause sun sensitivity but from what I understand it is exfoliating your skin and the new skin underneath may be more delicate and prone to burning, so it would still be a good idea to wear sunscreen to protect it. 🥰

    • @tarafallon7678
      @tarafallon7678 Рік тому

Exactly! Retinol is skin-renewing. You skin is now Baby Skin and very susceptible to sun damage, and must be cared for accordingly.

I adore the granactive retinoid products by Pacifica. I know some people with sensitive skin have issues with some Pacifica products, but since I don't have that issue I actually enjoy some of the essential oils. Their Clean Shots though are available with Retinoid and Bakuchiol, and I really loved their 5% formula. I also love their Wake Up Beautiful line of retinoid products.
I love the entire Holy Hydration line by e.l.f. and the spf moisturizer has been a game changer for me when my skin is feeling dryer,, especially because I do not like the feeling of the layers with seperate sunscreens. I really haven't met any of the Holy Hydration line I don't love, although I am excited to try their new Pure Skin line. Not for the "clean" aspect, but for the formulation.
One thing I do is I mix The Ordinary's caffeine eye solution with the Holy Hydration eye cream. They mix perfectly, and I keep it in a different pot for when I feel like a thinner eye care product than the cream.
I do like Bliss and Versed a lot though also... I've had a lot of luck with their products also...

Ohmygoodness! SO, about 18 months ago i decided i would start using an undereye cream due to increase in fine lines and wrinkles. I landed on the neutrogena and a saw a difference for the better in about 3 to 4 weeks. I was so pleased with the results!!
That s when i decided i could probably get even better results with more expensive/high end products, dropped neutrogena ..and paid a fairly heavy price for it, and not just in money! The skin in my undereye area just kept getting thinner and dryer, dark circles began to appear where there were none before, my eyes began to look sunken in due to rapid loss of collagen, etc.. 👀👀
I eventually gave up on this silly and expensive side trip, repurchased the neutrogena, and am now happy to report that only 3 weeks into it and my undereye area is looking far more hydrated and brighter again! Both the fine lines AND deeper wrinkles that were developing are now "vanishing", and i am one happy camper! I wont be making the same mistake again, that s for sure.
Its neutrogena all the way for this lady from now on! :D
Edit: Im okay with the skin on my eye lids getting thinner but I was developing some weird texture there, as well .. the neutrogena retinol sa eye cream is helping minimize that too, thank goodness!!

That seems to have helped to decrease the amount of oil issues I have. So thick skin cream may be helpful for oily skinned people. great suggestions, though, keep them coming.

Hi Jen, I discovered your channel about a week ago. I love your dupe videos! I'm considering a Beauty Pie membership now, LOL.
I'm sure you've already tried many things for dry skin. But thought I'd share another tip/item.
My husband's hands are so dry they crack open often. The best thing for him, and for me, although my skin isn't quite that dry, is The Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. When they say a tiny dab works they aren't kidding. When my husband needs to heal his hands quick, he washes his hands and leaves them slightly damp then puts a dot of that cream and rubs it in.
It's only tacky for less than a minute but works wonders on the skin. My husband hates any kind of lotion or cream, so unfortunately as soon as his hand is better, he stops using it.
Love your content and thank you for giving us more affordable dupes!

Very good dupes video. Skin care is one ppl never really talk about dupes with. I do love a lot of products from bliss. I also love skin care by elf. I was shocked how good the hello hydration line truly is. My sister was using for over a yr and I finally tried a few products from it. My skin loves the products I’ve tried.

Love this concept! I have a simliar skin type to you and I love the Elf moisturizer. However, I stopped using it since it's made in China. I just use the Biossance one instead!

Another few for you, the Acure Radically Rejuvenating Night cream is meant to dupe the Protini. You also have the Advanced Clinicals Retinol Cream. Eucerin line which contains urea is a great one for dry skin. For dry hands mix a couple of drops of Lactic Acid (The ordinary) in with your hand cream a couple nights a week ❤

Thanks Jen! I’m definitely going to try the take off the day dupe from Elf. Take off the day burned me on contact but yet melted my makeup off and left my skin so soft. I tried to keep using it because it worked so good but I couldn’t. It hurt too much. I’ll definitely try the elf. Hopefully whatever was bothering me isn’t in that.

Thank you for the day pass info. I have never been able to pull the trigger on Beauty Pie. The day pass is the option I was looking for. My alternative was buying K Beauty through Avon, but with all the bad press about MLM’s, I always feel uncomfortable when using that option.

    Awesome video Jen ..
One little trick. From Amazon get those empty cosmetic jars that they have the same lid as drunk elephant. Empty your elf cream or bliss one in it. That way the cream doesn't get exposed to the air & all the goodies inside (peptide...etc) remain safe. Jar packaging are the worst.
I learned it from a other UA-camr 😊 I refused to use creams in hats so that way I protect my cream & the ingredients 😜😜
