I do like when you show arm and lip swatches of lip products because it helps me decide what color I want if I choose to buy. You can't always trust the online pictures on Ulta, Sephora, etc.
Jen is THE BEST for swatches of any and all products. No one does a large enough swatch, in good lighting, for long enough. Except this channel. Bonus points for showing a finger swatch and also a blended out swatch of a blush/highlighter/bronzer.
OMG YES! Absolutely agree! I go check out Jen's back catalog when I'm interested in the colors in a new eye shadow palette or blush formula because chances are good, she'll have good swatches. I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate that she does such a good, thorough job with swatches. It's also really helpful when talking about dupes. I think Jen's point about showing all the swatches maybe being a little wasteful on her end but SAVING a lot more waste by making it easier for her viewers to make informed choices about what shade or shades to buy is so spot on.
I agree, I love when she swatches all the colors because a lot of times you can’t really tell something about the product unless you see a good swatch. So many times the swatches will change my mind for a different color that suits me better.
This was going to be my reply as well. When she compares one palette to a similar palette, it’s astonishing! So much thought and effort!! I’d like to add Anjelica Nyqvist (sp?) for swatches as well.
Aww, I love the clips from when you were still a UA-cam baby. So nostalgic - the dingy lighting, the Make Up Revolution palettes... And you looking gorgeous, both then and now ❤❤
Unpopular opinion here! I think it's the influencers prerogative to buy or do what they want to. That's why I never ask questions on what they do. I enjoy watching long-term content, and I've learned a ton watching in here. So thank you and all of the influencers that take the time to make these videos for us who watch.
I think instead of saying why do influencers take negative comments personally, the question should be why so many people nowadays make just horrendous comments about influencers, many of which are not even constructive or related to the video. The entitlement of some of the people who comment is shocking, you get to view these videos for free, if you don’t appreciate or like the influencer then click out.
Ah yes, " I'm obsessed." That almost makes me tune out when I hear it lol. I would rather not know how much a content creator is making but know they spent some of that money on a damn thesaurus to find other ways of communicating 😂. Thank you for this video! In a sea of "I'm obsessed" Jen you are definitely a "I find myself reaching for this and using it so much more than other things I could be using" kind of gal. 😊
I LOVE when you buy all the colors! We are similar skin tones and sometimes I just don’t want another peachy lip color, so it’s nice to see which lip colors in the range pull peach/orange so I can avoid those and buy the ones that actually translate how I want it to look on myself. Hopefully that makes sense!
I agree! I couldn't tell what the person meant because they said, "negative comments". Sometimes it can be constructive and in that case I think we should be able to handle it gracefully. But if it's just pure negativity, then that's not right.
Completely agree. I've been called a troll before for respectfully writing comments on a none beauty influencers UA-cam who was selling services to people under false pretences when she didn't have the qualifications to do so, so I called her out. I never made personal comments or anything like that but someone needed to call her out. She needed psychology qualifications to endorse what she was selling & she was from a sales background with no prerequisite knowledge.
Agreed. Also, there are ways to phrase things. I have to watch myself with this. Things don't always come across on the Internet like they do in real life.
I loved that during Advent you used an older product daily, I think you should do that in every video, if you are reviewing something new, choose one or 2 products that are a minimum of 2 years old and incorporate them into your look, proving to your audience that you are like the rest of us, who do not replace every item we use and love on a weekly basis.
@@HurshRoad isn’t it? I just found that out last month-I think it was actually Jen that told me that. I had no idea. I mean I don’t care really if someone makes something off of it-but I do care that it’s being done sneakily sometimes, that doesn’t feel great
I really appreciate this information. I had no idea. There are some influencers that I don’t trust anymore and don’t want them to benefit. Sorry, but I’m not sorry. They started off as a sweet and sincere channel and now, they are a full blown infomercial. You know it’s just about the money. Yuck.
I could never do your job, Jenn. I can just imagine the amount of work and stress involved! I appreciate you and your honesty. I prefer beauty and skin care influencers who are sensitive to the fact that a large portion of their audience cannot afford high end products and who talk about more affordable alternatives. You continue to be my favourite beauty creator and I always look forward to your videos.
What an amazing video! The way you “pull back the curtain” means so much to me and reinforces my commitment to your channel. So. I like it when you show a variety of swatches as it helps me to narrow down my choices in terms of what to purchase. Also, I am happy for you to make money on the turmeric I buy for my dog, the set of pots I bought to plant petunias in, or my microfiber dusting cloths. If it supports your channel, I’m in! ❤ Something funny: I’m incredibly tired. I dozed off while watching just now and had to rewind when I jolted awake. I actually said (out loud), “I hope Jen didn’t notice I fell asleep.” 🤣😂🤣
This was so insightful. I had no idea about the "cookies" when clicking on links. I think you do a really good job of mixing things up on your channel and even though I don't buy much make up anymore, I enjoy watching you. You seem very relatable and I feel like you really work hard to be honest and sincere. I love that you operate on a purely unsponsored basis. You are truly doing this because you love it. Also, your makeup and hair look especially beautiful!
Regarding the issue of wasting products - I think both can be true: an influencer may waste products by buying the full color range ~and~ consumers waste products if we’re not informed on what color choices actually look like. I’d rather be informed so I don’t waste my own money! Loved this video!
There is a certain beauty UA-camr who won't be named that started homesteading and posting about it on their beauty channel, then wonders why their views are down. That's not what people signed up for. It's the same as another beauty UA-camr who kind of flipped into a family channel. Not everyone wants to see your kids or follow you on trips to Disney. I am on beauty UA-cam to watch makeup videos. Nothing against people who have kids and family or for others who enjoy this type of content, but it's not what I'm watching. That's why I love you, Jen. I think I've been here for 3-4 years and you have stayed consistent. I feel like you are very relatable.
People who do that need to start a second channel to feature that content, but they obviously don't want to do that because they don't want to lose their subscribers. But you're going to lose views anyway if you change your content suddenly with no explanation. Oh well, their funeral.
I used to watch a handful of beauty people. It's Jen And Emily now. the focus of the other people have shifted to home/life style or to travel, which is fine for them. They are their own boss, but that's just not for me
@@abbyschwendler1107same. It’s Emily & Jen that I watch now. Their videos are a great way to unwind after a busy day. Personally, if I were running a channel I’d create a different channel for content unrelated to my channel.
Some content creators turn the lights down or switch lighting sources to show specific aspects of their complexion (texture, hyperpigmentation) and makeup (shimmer, tone). This really helps judging how makeup covers or really looks.
Oh I'm so excited for this. None of the questions that I asked were targeted at you. You are stellar & my most favorite, trusted on youtube. Thank you for being here for me !
Aw thanks Lena! Don't worry I didn't take anything personally. I'm so glad to see you posting. I saw on the news that there was a plane crash in Alaska and I know you fly often. So glad you're ok!
@@JenPhelpsThank you. I just returned yesterday from AZ & was stranded in a hub village for 3 days due to ice fog/fog. The crash is north of us along the Norton Sound & we're on the Yukon. It's just so tragic. We had a bad one in 2013 that my daughter & I were supposed to be on. My niece & I are flying in to the doctor on Monday.
Jen, you do a great job! My "why" question, more of a comment...is the nail tap, (beyond annoying), and the words "stunning" and "obsessed." Overused!! You just keep up your honest reviews for the real woman. Thanks!
I don't like when beauty influencers talk politics. I realize that it is their channel and they can discuss what they want but I watch makeup videos to escape from life for a while. Plus it usually starts a battle in the comments. Thank goodness there are not a lot that do this but I have come across a few.
Thank you! I am here for entertainment. If I want to follow politics then I go to political channels. Unfortunately I have had to unsubscribe from a few beauty channels because of their discussing politics on their channel.
Really enjoyed this video. Learned some things I wasn’t aware of. Btw, pink is an absolutely gorgeous color on you. Between the sweater, the cheek color and eyeshadow it’s a PinkaPalooza! Glorious
Another great video thank you 😊 When there was a recent surge of creators stating that there channels were struggling and that they felt you tube was actively preventing them from being successful I was annoyed with the creators and unsubbed … like all business everything is competitive… adjust to the current markets instead of what posting poor me videos ( just how I interpreted the videos ) These creators weren’t praising UA-cam when things were going well for them too me it just came across as feel sorry for me mentality rather than I need to work my business well You pay attention to what’s happening with your channel and your audience and adjust accordingly whilst talking openly and honestly about it … that’s smart , business savvy and taking responsibility for your own success ❤❤❤
I basically just posted the same comment. I’ve seen a few influencers complaining about their videos not being pushed with the algorithm, but those same influencers have been making less videos a week than they used to. So yeah, UA-cam algorithm isn’t going to push their videos as much, because they don’t have as many videos made! 😂🤦🏻♀️ It was so annoying listening to their whining about it
IMHO, we're seeing a shakeout of influencers. I think the influencer thing really boomed during the pandemic, when we couldn't go out much, but the pandemic has wound down to where Covid is now endemic in the population. Things are changing, and not all channels are going to survive. So as you said, "adjust to current markets."
The underconsumption and low-buy is actually a very good trend. As a person who hates wasting products, I figure out I may not be compatible to become an influencer. And I would choose always quality over quantity and price, no matter makeup products, clothing, or food (I cut McDo's completely).
I’m glad to learn abt the tracking thing tho! I want you to get credit for stuff I’m buying even if you didn’t recommend!!! That’s like perfectly win win for both of us!
I've seen influencers say "if you're on a budget, then buy x, y, and x" with it all being from ulta or Sephora, but with sales. I don't think they know what "budget" means. I don't care if a $40 product is half off. $20 is still a lot for one product for a lot of people.
Right?? I made a comment on another YT'ers channel when she said something that was $70 was affordable. The people in her community came for me hard. I think I struck a nerve? 🙄
@@YogaCheryl That's ridiculous. Everyone is complaining about how they're struggling and food is expensive, but will say $70 for one product is affordable in the same breath.
@@YogaCheryl Reminds me of a person I followed for a while who shall remain nameless. She came out with a $400(!) dollar purse, and I commented that a product like that is awfully expensive for most people, and suggested that she might look into a cheaper version, for example, make it out of vinyl. She responded with shock that I thought that was too expensive!!! What world do these people live in? At least she wasn't nasty about it.
I’m a new subscriber to your channel and I subscribed because you’re so calm. Sometimes I don’t really watch what you post but just like to listen to you talk while I’m busy doing stuff.
You are my favorite influencer- you are so transparent and listening to your videos is like talking with a friend! I think it would be fun to see some more indie brands. I recently have been using loose eyeshadow from A’del natural cosmetics and it’s really nice. The indie brands need some more love. 😊❤
I love swatches! You have saved me so much $$, because you have spent $$ buying so many shades and spent the time showing swatches..if that makes sense. So, thank you!
This was interesting, because I don't watch TikTok at all, and now I know that I should continue to avoid it. I've watched other channels on UA-cam, but now the only channel I watch is yours.
Jen, I find your honesty refreshing, you told us things that no other Vlogger would tell us. I appreciate that your content is unsponsored, there are some Vloggers every video is sponsored, I will fast forward and not watch the sponsored portion. The type of videos I like least are decluttering and hauls. I don’t care to see what you have nor do I care what your getting rid of or how your organizing it. I don’t mind seeing your hauls of your purchases from Sephora and Ulta but the big promo hauls just feels like bragging.
I’m 100% with the person who made the BK beauty brushes comment. They are outrageously expensive so even though some creators might make a better % from other brands BK beauty commissions has to compete at a lower % at the extremely high price. As a caretaker and hourly wage worker they are completely out of my budget. I’m sure many influencers get these brushes in PR so they don’t have to purchase them. I wonder if they did on a real workers budget if they might have a different opinion of them. Thrilled for those that can afford $130+ for 7 brushes but I’ll take the alter ego at $24 for 7. Let just be real for a moment at that amount of mark up whether you can afford them or not. That’s a 400-500% difference and outrageous to constantly push on hourly wage working people. That’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it.
They are very expensive for sure, I agree! And if it's not in a person's budget there are definitely other great brands out there. I think Profusion has some of the best brushes and they're all between $4-7 for the eye ones and even the face brushes are under $10. Granted, I do use my BK brushes more than Profusion because I think they're *slightly* better but if I didn't have the BK ones, I would be perfectly happy using my cheaper brushes.
@@JenPhelps I think the Sonia Kashuk brushes sold at Target are decent drugstore brushes. I also recently bought a Sephora Collection crease brush that I'm pretty happy with. I think the pricing for those brushes is at the higher end for drugstore. I don't see myself buying something at the price point of the BK Beauty brushes although I guess I could afford them. And I'm sure they last a very long time, but I just don't think I could do it.
Great comment about the hyped up and all the rage BK brushes. Lisa J does seem like a nice, ethical person but I buy Eco Tools or Real Techniques brushes and sponges. The deal breaker is not only the good price and good quality, they’re a cruelty~free brand🐰✨
Absolutely agree. I don’t understand the exclusive use of them other than creators are friends with Lisa J. They are overhyped overrated cheap feeling brushes for the price. Even Andreea Ali said they were too lightweight and preferred Rephr. Sorry to offend any creator who is friends with Lisa J, I’m sure she’s very nice. But if Rephr can do Japanese fude for less than BK, I will take them or Sigma synthetic over BK any day. No comparison in my book. Unpopular opinion I’m sure but it’s the first time I’ve ever said it on YT due to the BK Stans backlash.
Thanks for sharing your honest responses to these questions. Great to hear the content creator perspective. BTW, your background is really pretty. 22:22
This video is GOLD!! So much information. Though I have to say that some of the questions seemed as though the asker wasn’t thinking really thinking outside of their personal perception. 🤷♀️
Maybe I’m old school, but I really like long UA-cam videos. I’m 52, so I’m sure that plays a part in that. I feel like even my kids are hyperstimulated with what they watch. I am happy slowing my roll. ☺️
I appreciate when someone shows multiple shades of products. I know it can be expensive and maybe seem wasteful but it is part of s thorough review. At least a good selection of the available shades, not every single one if there are tons of them. I think most influencers have an outlet for donating their unwanted stuff but even if they don't, I feel it's part of the job.
I really appreciate your honesty. I also want to say how much I appreciate all the swatches you do of products, and how much detail you give. Your swatches are the BEST!! It has really helped me choose which shades to buy, especially when there are no testers in the stores. Thank you so much! ♥
Jen did you lighten your hair? It looks different here but so pretty. So excited to see this video! Sleep can wait lol 😆 I live in Germany and it’s almost 11 pm. This makeup look with your top is so beautiful. I like seeing you in color. 😊
I really enjoyed the interactive nature of this video. It was good to hear the answers to these questions. Glad to know so many of us have the same feelings about beauty content creators. I don’t mind haul videos even when I am trying to cut down on buying stuff myself. It lets me keep up with the latest trends and I simply keep a list of things which have potential for when I want to treat myself.
My favorite hauls of all time were the ones you did this Vlogmas! 😊 It was so fun watching your surprise and to see something we haven’t seen in a long time! A++
The new influencer trend that makes me nuts is making you have to comment for a link rather than posting it. It must be to increase engagement. Some of these people I’ve watched for a decade and now they’re doing this, so it’s really annoying as a loyal viewer.
Weeeeeee! The excitement I felt when I saw a Jen video pop up! I always hit ‘like’ before I even watch bc I know it’s gonna be good! I love seeing the flashbacks to your older videos 😊 I wish I was on UA-cam back then! I really only got on when Covid started bc I couldn’t go anywhere (immunocompromised). But I’m so glad I found you! Definitely one of my very favorite content creators ❤ Thank you for giving it to us straight why influencers do things the way they do. I still hate the nail tapping ASMR thing. I really do not like ASMR things in general. I’ll click off that video so fast 😂 I hate the “click on the link, pinned comment, and go to part 2 to find out” nope tell me now bc I’m not doing it. If you tell me, then I will go click on the links whether I buy the products or not bc I know it helps. But don’t tease and make me jump through hoops! Good to know I’m not the only one who really doesn’t care for most UA-camr’s vlogs. A separate channel is nice bc then it doesn’t feel like a bait and switch on the content. Don’t you stop doing your vlogmas though! 😊 Thank you again for this video ❤ Have a great weekend. Hugs! 💕
First, let me say I personally appreciate you doing all the swatches. I don't always see colors correctly and I wouuld buy products and they wouldn't look like i saw. I prefer so many of what you personally recommend. It has personally saved me so much. Thank you.
Just for the record, I never thought of you when I wrote “lie”. In fact I really appreciate your honesty and openness. Most of the people I follow don’t lie.. it’s just that there’s a lot of BS out there and lying seems to become a way of life (not just for influencers but everywhere)
Jen I like the way you do things, including swatching a line’s colors for us. Goodness sounds like a strange kind of gripe bc you’re putting it out for US, not just for yourself. It’s ok that you find you don’t like a feature of it. Someone else might like that feature. You’re just honest- And you do it all better than anyone else literally why I instantly click as soon as you post. 🎉💕
I never miss your videos. I appreciate your honesty with everything you review, and enjoy your opinions, swatches and trying a full face of new products. Keep up the great work 💕
I'm so surprised your skincare videos don't do well. I found your channel because someone on Reddit was recommending it and I liked your energy and honesty in each video. I never felt like you were "selling" something to us :) Through your video, I found the dynasty cream and the Haruharu toner which I love! Thank you for making this video. It was really fun to watch/listen to it!
One influencer I can think of did a whole video saying she was going to quit. It was kind of ridiculous. Hard to feel bad for her since it is obvious she is well off without the income from youtube and was doing it more as a hobby. Some people are actually doing this as a job.
The phrase that grates on my nerves is "game changing". Ack. I watch a handful of beauty UA-camrs on a regular basis, and virtually all of them say a product is "game changing" frequently. 😵
Agreed. Some products are indeed "game changing", but there just aren't going to be many that are truly extraordinary. Hmm. For me, it would be the MAC Paint Pot in Painterly used as an eyelid primer, the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB tinted moisturizer, the Revlon Illuminance foundation in the glass bottle, and the L'Oreal True Match Super-blendable blush in Baby Blossom. I'm also very fond of the Better Than Sex mascara in Chocolate, but there are a lot of good mascaras out there, many at lower price points.
First of all, your hair looks so great! Thanks for answering these questions, you are one of my favorites because you are so honest about everything. It makes me feel like I can trust your opinion on products and that’s really a great feeling in this age of disingenuous people. For me, I don’t want people to change, I just choose who I subscribe to and watch accordingly. So I skip many of the people who do the things mentioned here
Really enjoyed this video. And didn't know about how opening a link works that way. As far as BK brushes, i think besides the are good quality it's because a believe people trust Lisa J, Angie and Nikki as influencers. I follow them and find them to be honest.
I just love these videos when you explain this stuff I have a person who I will not mention that I like to watch on youtube, and she does that a lot as far as saying I will list it down below but not mention it and I never in a million years knew that was why so thank you for sharing such great information. I couldn't do your job for a million dollars I give you a lot of credit for sharing such honest facts with us. God bless you and your family keep up the good work
Ahhh yes, now I realize why many influencers will say “I did my foundation and my brows before I got on camera, so I’ll just post the links below.” It makes total sense now
There's one particular influencers who has turned every video into an infomercial....not Jen. And they are just perfection on a screen! Also, beauty influencers who give political opinions in a non verbal way. I watch beauty content to get away from politics.
People need to stop following "influencers" who do things they don't like. You have a choice in who to follow and watch. Also, make sure to clear your cookies and search history on both your phone and computer every night before going to bed.
Yes it’s true… I live in Dubai and if I can’t get it here (or order to deliver here), I’m not going to want to watch a certain brand video, because I’ll be frustrated… That said, if enough content creators I trust talk about a certain brand well enough even if I can only get it online and not swatch before buying, I will order it! Love all of your videos Jen 😍😍
Great video and super interesting! I love your honesty, as usual. One other reason influencers make their lights really bright is just a lack of understanding on how to setup the lights properly. I stay this because I am guilty of it myself. I've been working on fixing my lighting for so long, so many times and I want it to look more natural. My issue is that I'm making things too flat looking by the way my lights are setup, though I keep trying to fix and perfect it. There's such an art or science to it and many of us aren't good at setting up our lighting properly. :) At least that's the case for me! When it comes to influencers saying something is life changing - if it's just in the title, then I think it's a way to get clicks. The words in the title can make such a big difference in views.
Agreed 100% about the lighting. Figuring out a good lighting setup is complicated for someone without a professional background in video/photography. Lights have to be the right temperature, not too warm, not too cool. If you have more than one it’s best to match the temps but many affordable lights don’t even have a way to adjust temps. Also, for light to look natural it has to come from a large source, think a window for ex, AND it has to be soft so it doesn’t blow out details such as pores. And when you soften the light it reduces its intensity so u need a powerful light = expensive. And good diffusion materials and softboxes are also expensive. I’m not a lighting professional btw, but ive learned a lot about it since starting my channel. One thing for sure… when it comes to lighting, “buy it nice or buy it twice”. It’s totally fine to start with affordable lights but should be upgraded as soon as budget allows. All that just to shed some light (no pun intended) on the subject. That’s the reason so many channels have sub-optimal lighting, because it’s tricky. 🙂
@@FabiMadeup I figure that's why people get paid to do lighting in movies, TV, and plays. Lighting is tricky and can make a big difference in how things look.
Your look today is just beautiful! What I find irritating is when influencers talk with a ‘Fry’ voice. It grates on me so much I switch to a different video.
The phrase I wish would disappear from UA-cam is, “I’m so excited…” I swear it’s in the intro to 95% of beauty reviews, or really any UA-cam videos made by women. There has got to be another way to introduce a video. That one bothers me more than, “I’m obsessed with _______” 😊
In my opinion, seeing all the colors of a product in your channel, for example, is helpful to us viewers because we can see which shades can interest us! But it's understandable that you may want to cut on some of it because in the end it's a lot of money for things that you won't use
I have been watching influencers since 2020 when COVID hit and you are the only some I still follow because your content is authentic. I also know I can gauge if I will want to purchase a product bases of your recommendations. I have been muting some influencers so I can see what type of look to get ideas but ignore their content.!! LOL
Must say that I treasure your transparency. I trust your reviews because of your transparency. I realize UA-cam is a business and I'm so happy to know about the month-long tracking. This way I can support the UA-camrs I most appreciate.
I do enjoy multiple arm or lip swatches, especially of neutrals that I’m more likely to buy. It doesn’t have to be every shade but I think the more wearable colors, it is helpful. I appreciate how transparent you are btw! I love watching you and Emily Noel because I always feel like you gals are just so genuine.
Thank you Zizzie! Last night after I responded to your comment, I held up my phone to my computer monitor and adjusted the monitor to look like my phone. I had to look up how to do it but I was hoping I got it right! Hopefully no more green/gray cast! 🙏🏻❤️ But let me know if anything changes!
This is a great and informative video!!! Personally I like the influencers to buy the different shades and even comprobable items ( drugstore vs high end) so if there is something I like and you’ve shown me a product that is $50 or $60 less, but has the same affect, I’m all for that. The few high end foundations I have taken a chance on purchasing, because it looked so beautiful on someone half my age, I’ve mostly regretted. Same goes for concealers. Oh the money I’ve spent to not have “old” looking eyes. It’s my fault of course because no one made me buy it but still. Again very helpful video👍🥰❤️
I truly look at this like it's a job. I know it seems wasteful to many, and even to you at times, but you are trying to give your audience as much information as you can so we can make informed buying decisions, which I appreciate more than I can articulate here. I think it's the only reason drugstore brands have stepped up their quality game. If influencers weren't reviewing their products, we wouldn't have the knowledge to make an informed buying choice. Who wants to buy one color of a product just to try it in a video and then go out and buy more colors to review a product they have already reviewed? These videos are a ton of work and i think people forget that.
Jen, I think you look super pretty in the old footage you show of yourself. Not to say you don’t look good now, but I think the more “raw” and low quality looks more realistic. But either way, you are looking great. 😊
You are one of my favorite makeup youtubers. I appreciate your honesty and I have gotten several products thru the years that you have recommended. Also you have an incredible eye for color and an amazing memory of past pallets. Your comparisons are unmatched and your swatches are on point every time. This is not a compliment sandwich. I have nothing negative to say. Those asking why a youtuber would take mean and negative comments to heart should ask anyone else the same question. Mean comments can hurt even if the person on the receiving end knows they are being baited. Mean is mean. There is a way to disagree with someone without trying to belittle or berate them and there are so many channels on UA-cam. Maybe instead of being mean to someone behind the protection of a keyboard, it would be easier and definitely kinder to simply move on to a channel where the watcher vibes with the youtuber more. Also, there are several questions it is inappropriate and at times rude to ask someone...."how much $$ do you make" is one of those questions. I really like seeing all the swatches of products because it really does help me decide if that product is something I want to order. Another favorite video that you make is the week long pr hauls... Makeup you don't necessarily have to buy, but new products coming in. And from experience, I have tried A LOT of foundation brushes specifically and I have never used a foundation brush that comes anywhere near the quality of the BK Beauty foundation brush! I don't know what magic they use to make that brush but it really is absolutely worth the hype
Get the shades!! I watch to see the swatches. I am oily olive skin and still watch. The biggest thing I learned here is you are gentle with your applications!! I actually love links. I actually do not mind crediting you or my creators for anything to be honest.
Jen, your bottomless creativity amazes me! This video is such a great example of that. You never seem to run out of fantastic ideas for your videos and you're now my first favorite because of that. You GO, girl!! 💪
I love this direction your channel has been going in--I've dropped so many subs because of influencers only catering to shopaholics. I'm at the point that I have plenty of what I like and what works and am not constantly looking for more.
On the topic of buying all the colors to swatch, I actually really appreciate when you or others do that! I agree that it makes sense for just one person (the beauty influencer) to buy one of each than for us all to buy colors more blindly. I don’t buy new make up as often as I wish I could so I really appreciate being able to see all the colors. I’ve personally found the brand swatches to be so inaccurate so I’m always looking for multiple pics/videos Also, your look in this vid is so ethereal/angelic. I love it
I know Catrice concealer is highly praised. But because I can’t swatch it in person to find the right shade so I usually hesitate to buy regardless of the high recommendation.
I ❤❤❤❤❤ your skincare videos and it has helped me so much because I also have dry skin. Although I'm about to be 70 your complexion products have helped immensely
So many times the swatches will change my mind for a different color that suits me better.
absolutely. another channel that does lovely swatches is matilda on video
This was going to be my reply as well. When she compares one palette to a similar palette, it’s astonishing! So much thought and effort!!
I’d like to add Anjelica Nyqvist (sp?) for swatches as well.
THE REASON I WATCH YOU is bc your honest. PERIOD

Perfectly said!
I agree. I like seeing all the options before I buy.
100% agree!!!! Thank you for all the work you put in all your videos Jen, it's appreciated!
@@jennifermolina4396 awesome comment!🥰
I think instead of saying why do influencers take negative comments personally, the question should be why so many people nowadays make just horrendous comments about influencers, many of which are not even constructive or related to the video. The entitlement of some of the people who comment is shocking, you get to view these videos for free, if you don’t appreciate or like the influencer then click out.
Completely agree. Just saw a nasty comment on Nikki LaRose’s video remarking on her appearance. She’s stunning but even if she wasn’t who does that?
Definitely this.
there’s a difference between negative comments and holding someone accountable as well. people are way too comfortable behind their screens.
@ but the question was about people get offended by negative comments
agree!
If I never hear the word “game-changer”, it’ll be too soon. Everything can’t be a game changer.
Yes, I'll buy some of them the thesaurus before I watch their content again! 😂😂😂
@soniaalvarado5372 Maybe the game is what can I convince people to buy for the next week 🤔 😅
@@EvelynInColor holy grail is another, lol
I LOVE when you buy all the colors! We are similar skin tones and sometimes I just don’t want another peachy lip color, so it’s nice to see which lip colors in the range pull peach/orange so I can avoid those and buy the ones that actually translate how I want it to look on myself. Hopefully that makes sense!
Yes it definitely always helps me decide which one to get.
That can get real expensive though. Creators should supply them with at least sample sizes.
There is a major difference between blunt negative comments and then trolls, versus genuine constructive criticism.
I agree! I couldn't tell what the person meant because they said, "negative comments". Sometimes it can be constructive and in that case I think we should be able to handle it gracefully. But if it's just pure negativity, then that's not right.
Yes!
@@micheller2696 absolutely, construction criticism is appreciated and not hurtful 🩷
The way Jen did the Advent Calendar was so sweet. I loved that she got her son involved. I love your idea of using older products.
That is crazy how those links work. No wonder so many influencers are dirty like that and won’t tell you the product.
Yuck.
People should clear their cookies and search history on both their phone and computer every night.
Me too. Especially being an influencer means there're a lot of products unused, as someone who hates wasting I just can't do that.
I've come to understand from watching Jen that there's a lot of work involved in running a UA-cam channel.
I'm glad someone is getting benefit from my Amazon and ulta purchases! ❤ Happy to have a way to give back to a creator who i genuinely appreciate.
Aw thank you! I appreciate that.
Something funny: I’m incredibly tired. I dozed off while watching just now and had to rewind when I jolted awake. I actually said (out loud), “I hope Jen didn’t notice I fell asleep.” 🤣😂🤣
Hahaha how dare you fall asleep! 🤣🤣 Just kidding...that's too funny!
Aw thank you so much! That means a lot to me. :)
Regarding the issue of wasting products - I think both can be true: an influencer may waste products by buying the full color range ~and~ consumers waste products if we’re not informed on what color choices actually look like. I’d rather be informed so I don’t waste my own money! Loved this video!
I love that you show all the colors of lip products!
This is why I love Lavinia Rusanda videos
Morgan Turner turns the lights down at times and Kelly Gooch usually films in natural light.

Jen, you do a great job! My "why" question, more of a comment...is the nail tap, (beyond annoying), and the words "stunning" and "obsessed." Overused!! You just keep up your honest reviews for the real woman. Thanks!
The nail tapping drives me nuts and then rustling the packaging on purpose while opening. I turn my volume off or skip that part as soon as I can.
I hate when they put the dropper right on their face whether it be for makeup or skincare.
@JackieMarshall-kx6cr So true!!
This was such a great video. I know it's what you do, but you're so good at talking to camera (and not just about make up).
Really enjoyed this video. Learned some things I wasn’t aware of.
Btw, pink is an absolutely gorgeous color on you. Between the sweater, the cheek color and eyeshadow it’s a PinkaPalooza! Glorious
Yep, pink is her color!

When there was a recent surge of creators stating that there channels were struggling and that they felt you tube was actively preventing them from being successful I was annoyed with the creators and unsubbed … like all business everything is competitive… adjust to the current markets instead of what posting poor me videos ( just how I interpreted the videos )
These creators weren’t praising UA-cam when things were going well for them too me it just came across as feel sorry for me mentality rather than I need to work my business well
You pay attention to what’s happening with your channel and your audience and adjust accordingly whilst talking openly and honestly about it … that’s smart , business savvy and taking responsibility for your own success ❤❤❤
Agree, me too, this was an eye opener for me, I had no idea.
So, I should click on a link to ulta, sephora or Amazon from one of your videos before I buy anything! Great to know!!!
@YogaCheryl $70 affordable!? In what universe!? Sheeesh those people are out of touch!

I like the swatches. They give us a color palette. Great video.
First of all, your hair looks so great! Thanks for answering these questions, you are one of my favorites because you are so honest about everything. It makes me feel like I can trust your opinion on products and that’s really a great feeling in this age of disingenuous people.
I prefer the multi colour swatch it helps me decide witch ones i want to buy
The algorithm really pushes content creators to say “Life changing!” “Game changer!” 😮 etc in order to get clicks. The algorithms push extremes.
@@20thcenturyrelic yeah totally :)

In addition to the nail tapping we’ve mentioned a number of times, the “jazz fingers” under the chin gets on my nerves.
That one bothers me more than, “I’m obsessed with _______” 😊
Agree..Every single one of them!
Yup
Yes!!! I have unsubed from many people because of this!
In my opinion, seeing all the colors of a product in your channel, for example, is helpful to us viewers because we can see which shades can interest us! But it's understandable that you may want to cut on some of it because in the end it's a lot of money for things that you won't use
Ooooh I can't wait to see more about that eyeshadow look! It's gorgeous!!
It'll be coming out this week! It's a collab from another influencer and I can't talk about it until she announces it first. But it's SUPER pretty!
@@JenPhelpsCan’t wait to see what it is, my favorite colors.
The color balance is beautiful today. I think you nailed it!
You speak so eloquently. I really enjoyed this video and I love watching your videos! 💕💕💕
This is a great and informative video!!! Personally I like the influencers to buy the different shades and even comprobable items ( drugstore vs high end) so if there is something I like and you’ve shown me a product that is $50 or $60 less, but has the same affect, I’m all for that. The
few high end foundations I
have taken a chance on
purchasing, because it
looked so beautiful on
someone half my age, I’ve mostly regretted. Same goes for concealers. Oh the money I’ve spent to not have “old” looking eyes. It’s my fault of course because no one made me buy it but still. Again very helpful video👍🥰❤️
Omg also gonna start watching your videos and then Amazon and Target and ulta shopping LOL. 😆
I think of it as a lot of waste by a handful so the regular consumer can only purchase the one or two they actually need/ want
@@victoriastargle2929 you articulated what I was trying to say in a much more concise way! Lol!!!!!
Jen, I think you look super pretty in the old footage you show of yourself. Not to say you don’t look good now, but I think the more “raw” and low quality looks more realistic. But either way, you are looking great. 😊
Aw thank you! I filmed those with my phone back in the day and I weighed about 2 lbs less so I look a lot different, haha!
This right here should be your signature look!
I’ve personally found the brand swatches to be so inaccurate so I’m always looking for multiple pics/videos
Also, your look in this vid is so ethereal/angelic. I love it
I know Catrice concealer is highly praised. But because I can’t swatch it in person to find the right shade so I usually hesitate to buy regardless of the high recommendation.
I ❤❤❤❤❤ your skincare videos and it has helped me so much because I also have dry skin. Although I'm about to be 70 your complexion products have helped immensely
I like that you do arm swatches. Often said things like. “I’m not mad at it.”… “She is cute “ when describing an item.
