Very well said.

Again, I cannot thank you enough for your videos. It has been a staple since I discovered it. You may have noticed I've commented on multple videos in a short span of time. Believe me, I've been watching your videos.
Every time I see public works, I end up not complaining as much having understood the principles thanks to you.
Sabi ko nga, given another chance in life I would've chosen to be an engineer like you. I think I've always wanted to be an engineer. I was simply confused at a point in my life when I needed to make a career decision.
On a different note, Nasusuka na ako sa mga travel vlogs. parang saturated na ang content na 'to.
I find your "occupational" content refreshing having your life as a Filipino working overseas in the background. Like I've said before I think you're a great storyteller and perhaps I would dare say to be among your numerous (numerous talaga?!.. hehehe) fans.
Again, looking forward to more videos. Wish you well.

Well explained, Engr. Cheers! Sa totoo lang we can never judge an Engineers work dahil lang sa picture na nakikita kung saan saan. Gaya ng sabi ni Engr., kadalasang sinusunod ng contractors ay yung approved na design for a specific project. I believe we, as Civil Engineers, No.1 purpose natin is to provide a stable work, with accordance sa specs with the least cost possible.

Hi, just want to share that concrete pavement is typically without reinforcing bars if the subgrade or soil condition is good however if the subgrade condition is very weak then there is a need for reinforcing bars. In addition, dowel bars are used for load transfer from one slab to another slab. Pavements are usually laid in which the ground acts as support therefore depending on the strength of the soil/ subgrade the thickness and the design of the pavement can be determined.
Making the pavement thicker doesn't really mean that it will increase its capacity in carrying heavier traffic but instead it will reduce the stress/ strain experienced by the soil.

I have contractor friends. They say the reason they won't or can't follow the specs of the government project because of the of the ff: 1. If it is funded by a town/city, a minimum of 20 percent of the total project value goes to the mayor, excluding the lump sum for the municipal or city engineer, and bidding committee members. They have to spend in order to get or win a contract. 2. If it is funded by the province, same modus, but this time it's gonna be bigger because you have now to share to the governor, provincial engineering, then mayor, then municipal engineer, bidding committee members. 3. If funded by a congressman, same format. Share for the congressman (20 percent), mayor (10 percent), municipal engineer (lump sum), bidding committee members. If national project. No contractor can win if they won't pay DPWH, and of course the office of the President through his men. No contractor can get a government project in a fair bidding. They (contractor) are forced to do the kickback format or they wont survive. Do not assume that because we are under Duterte, these kick back system is gone. I asked him why is this system still exist. He said. It's SOP. No president, governor, senator, DPWH, mayor will refuse these huge commission because it's where they get their budget for election. And the effect is substandard government projects.

Blame the bulok na sistema ng pilipinas rather blame our engineers. We have a book all standard procedures are there, the common problem is the propper execution of the contractors and because of that "bulok na sistema", they failed to execute. Bigay doon bigay dito.

Actually lahat ng bagay merong tensile and compressive strength..

Hi, I think you missed the part on where the 'tension' applies to pavement.
Let's say a concrete slab carries a certain load: the slab bends and if you try to disintigrate the slab into lateral fibers, you can actually see that the fibers away from the load, 'stretches'. That it where the steel bars help the concrete. Tension helps develop cracks on concrete. We know that concrete has weak tensile strength, right? But why most of the roads out there don't use reinforcement? It's because the soil where they are being laid on is heavily compacted. It allows very less to 0 shrinking at all. Therefore, it prevents the concrete from bending. Therefore, steel bars aren't needed. Designing a RC pavements intends to make sure bending is prevented even in the most unimaginable situations and calamities.

Hi! That is a national highway here in Southern Batangas. I live near that area and the condition of that highway is really, really, really, really bad. It is all because of the hundreds of trucks passing that highway EVERYDAY (from a quarry on Taysan, Batangas) . It's not just that part of the highway that is destroyed. almost a stretch of 8-10km of road is completely or partially destroyed. It has been a problem in our area for decades.

    kc binakalan,

MALI TO BRAD. You don't want to develop cracks in the first place. The purpose of joints is NOT to develop cracks but to prevent it. There will always be movements on the ground, to prevent the friction and the expanding of concrete that causes cracks, thus you need joints aka a gap on each concrete.
